A24’s first harrowing trailer for Warfare puts viewers into the claustrophobic confines of a battle that took place in 2006 in Iraq. The action’s based on the memories of soldiers who survived the bloody engagement.
Alex Garland co-wrote and co-directed Warfare with ex-Navy Seal Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor on Garland’s Civil War. Alex Garland and Iraq war veteran Ray Mendoza take audiences inside a real-time Iraq war siege involving American Navy SEALs in the first trailer for A24’s Warfare, which dropped on Monday.
The bloody, immersive retelling of the 2006 Iraq war sucks viewers into the horrors of military combat by depicting a squad of American soldiers inside the home of an Iraqi family and coming under heavy bombardment and attack. An A24 synopsis of the film describes it “a visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.”

One year after creating a fictionalized civil war inside the United States, “Civil War” filmmaker Alex Garland has his eyes on a historical conflict. Garland and co-writer and co-director Ray Mendoza, an Iraq War veteran, are behind the new film “Warfare,” a real-time war film based on “the memory of the people who lived it.”
The project, which was announced earlier this year, is set during the 2006 Iraq War and focuses on “a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory.”
In keeping with classic war films of yesteryear – including classics like “The Thin Red Line,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and “Black Hawk Down,” Garland and Mendoza have enlisted an all-star cast of internet-approved young actors, including Emmy nominees D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai and Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo,...

A24 recently released a trailer for Alex Garland’s new movie, ‘Warfare,’ which he co-directed with Ray Mendoza.
This film is a departure from the dystopian themes of Garland’s previous work, ‘Civil War,’ and instead transports viewers to the intense battlegrounds of 2006 Iraq. The film’s release is scheduled for 2025, although an exact date is yet to be confirmed.
Unlike his earlier project which reimagined a second American Civil War, Garland, alongside Mendoza who also served as the military supervisor on ‘Civil War,’ crafted a narrative set against the backdrop of real historical events.
‘Warfare’ offers an in-depth look at the experiences of an American Navy SEALs platoon stationed within an Iraqi family’s home, providing a strategic vantage point to oversee US movements through hostile territories.
The storytelling in ‘Warfare’ is unique as it unfolds in real-time, reflecting the personal memories of those who were there.

By the time director Alex Garland’s film Civil War (you can read our review Here) was released earlier this year, Garland was already working on another war movie called Warfare, co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. While Civil War was a dystopian film that imagined a new Civil War breaking out in the United States, Warfare is set during a real war, the story taking viewers back to 2006 Iraq. A24 will be giving the film a theatrical release sometime in 2025, but even though a specific release date has not yet been announced, the first trailer for the film has been unveiled. You can watch it in the embed above.

"Coming to you, or you coming to us?" A24 has unveiled the official trailer for a war movie called simply Warfare, the latest project (co-)directed by Alex Garland following his big action movie Civil War earlier this year. Warfare is actually co-directed by Alex Garland and the real life Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, telling his own stories (from memory) of what it was like to be there. A member of Seal Team 5, Mendoza came to partner with Garland on Warfare after serving as his military supervisor on Civil War. Earlier this year, Civil War proved Alex Garland wasn’t so much interested in the politics of a divided country, rather curious about the questions of morality and the psychological toll of those entrenched in an aspect of war (specifically photojournalism). He’s now returning in 2025 with what looks to be an even more focused portrait of the horrors of war, capturing a group of soldiers in Iraq War in real-time. Co-directed with Ray Mendoza, Warfare is once again backed by A24 and now the first trailer has arrived.

Adapted from Nicholas Adams’ 1992 novel, the much better titled Horrorscope, Tarot is the feature directorial debut from writers/directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. The story opens at a rented mansion inhabited by a group of college students celebrating a birthday, although tensions are high due to a recent break-up within the group. “I hope in the future we will be seen as a kind of destination festival,” Paul Ridd tells us of his long-term goal for the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff), as he pulls away from his work desk for a short break. He’s speaking to us from his home in the Scottish capital and we’re just a few days out from his inaugural edition as festival director.
Central to his plan is a rejig of the festival’s competition strands, which now carry the names of local and global screen icons and strictly debut world premiere titles. There’s also a hefty cash prize.
“You will come here because of the strength of our curation and competitions,” Ridd says.
Another key piece of his puzzle is the festival’s engagement with the industry through its dedicated industry sidebar, set to relaunch this year across the festival’s first weekend,...

Where are all my horror fans? Netflix recently added 10 horror films to its platform on the first of August. While I recommend checking out each new release, the one that should be at the top of your watchlist is the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. This movie is criminally underrated, in my opinion, when it really deserves all the love and attention.
Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) wrote and directed Tarot, making it their feature film directorial debuts. Like most movies nowadays, Tarot is based on another piece of work. It's based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Although panned by critics, the horror flick still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $49 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.
Here's how I see it. It's okay to read critic reviews but don't let what someone else has said and their opinions deter you from watching a movie. Who knows,...

The film boasts a stellar cast including Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, Wolfgang Novogratz, Humberly González, Larsen Thompson, and Jacob Batalon. Their performances bring depth and intensity to the chilling story, making...

After a successful box office run, Sony’s Screen Gems’ Tarot card-themed movie Tarot (formerly titled Horrorscope) is heading to streaming next month.
Look for Tarot to arrive on Netflix on August 1, 2024.
The plot sees a group of friends unleashing a curse when they decide to play with a mysterious box of tarot cards. One by one, they come face to face with their fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.
Larsen Thompson, Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika and Jacob Batalon star in the gateway horror movie Tarot, which was directed by Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg. The film is very loosely based on a novel by Nicholas Adams.
I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “Tarot has the makings of a breezy gateway horror movie perfect for sleepovers, though it’s undermined by surface-level characters and storytelling.” Her review continues,...

The Bold and The Beautiful spoilers and rumors tease Justin Barber’s (Aaron D. Spears) real reason for returning to LA might be because of Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson). Several months back, Xander Avant (Adain Bradley) warned John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) he saw Thomas run Emma Barber (Nia Sioux) off the road-is Justin back for revenge?
The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Strange That Justin Barber Should Show Up Right After Thomas Forrester’ Return
Shortly after the accusations and Xander trying to get the case reopened, Thomas and Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) broke up and Thomas went overseas. But he has just returned, and so has Emma’s uncle, Justin-the timing seems suspicious.
Xander had left and gone without really getting anything accomplished except sow some seeds of doubt, but he didn’t contact Justin-who’s a lawyer.
Justin never did like Thomas but he’s liked him even...

Big-budgeted films with a stellar cast are normally expected to perform better at the box office than low-budgeted films. However, the 2024 box office so far has seen more major flops, big-budget films failing to make it to the breakeven point, and low-budgeted movies garnering millions across the world. And so it was for actors like Henry Cavill and Ryan Gosling, who despite their fanfare and talent, failed to woo the audiences with their feats.
Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare | Lionsgate Films
While Henry Cavill so far has recorded two flops this year (Argylle & The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) despite some pretty astounding collaborations, last year’s box-office dominating stars Gosling and Emily Blunt failed to live up to expectations with their action-packed romantic comedy, The Fall Guy.
So while Henry Cavill and Ryan Gosling try to figure out what made their movies perform way below expectations, here...

Look, far be it from me to tell a young, diverse, and predominantly non-male group of horror-movie protagonists what to do. But if I were ever in a situation that involved dabbling with the supernatural in highly creepy settings while also breaking long-established rules involved with the aforementioned dabbling, I would simply not do that. Of course, there wouldn't be a movie for us to talk about here in that hypothetical, but that ain't my problem!
For better or worse (you can probably guess which one it is), nobody involved with the production of "Tarot" bothered to listen to my advice. For this group of college kids who committed the faux pas of all faux pas by messing with a tarot deck that wasn't theirs to begin with, the end result was ... pretty messy, to put it mildly. There has been much pessimism floating around regarding this past weekend's box office. I myself have tossed some of that pessimism into the void. Much of that has to do with the fact that the summer movie season kicked off with "The Fall Guy" opening to a wildly disappointing $28.5 million, marking the worst start to summer in more than 20 years. Far less ink has been spilled regarding Sony's new horror movie "Tarot," which also opened over the weekend and snuck into the top five on the domestic charts with a $6.5 million debut. At first glance, it's not a good look for a movie from a major studio opening on more than 3,100 screens across North America. However, this might actually end up being a sneaky little hit.
"Tarot" also pulled in $3.7 million internationally, giving it a $10.2 million global start. Again, that number isn't going to break any records. It's not...

Sony’s Screen Gems brought horror back to the box office with the Tarot card-themed movie Tarot (formerly titled Horrorscope) over the weekend. The film debuted in theaters nationwide on Thursday, May 2, but how did it stack up against other new releases for the genre this year?
Directed by Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg, Tarot debuted in the #4 spot on the domestic box office charts, scaring up $6.5 million and giving it the third lowest opening for a wide release horror movie at the box office here in 2024 so far. For the sake of comparison, here are the domestic opening weekend numbers for this year’s big screen horror offerings…
Night Swim – $11.7 million Abigail – $10.2 million Imaginary – $9.9 million The First Omen – $8.3 million Tarot – $6.5 million Immaculate – $5.3 million Lisa Frankenstein – $3.6 million

A Pisces, a Taurus, a Capricorn, a Leo, a Virgo, and an Aquarius walk into a rented mansion for their Libra friend’s birthday party. The seven college kids soon run out of booze, go poking around in places they shouldn’t, and summon a fate worse than death when they find a mysterious deck of cards harboring a hidden evil. Title card: “Tarot.” All signs… point to yikes.
Written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, Screen Gems’ latest scary movie is willfully ridiculous. It’s also the most original take on the haunted party game since last year’s well-loved “Talk to Me” with its own franchising potential as a supernatural series. If open-minded audiences buy into this transparently trendy gimmick and its melodramatic narrative execution, what feels like a spiritual “Final Destination” spinoff — told by way of an Urban Outfitters’ small gifts display — could very well...

If you’ve ever fumbled through a dusty old deck of tarot cards, hoping they’d reveal something about your future, Tarot (2024) might just make you think twice before you shuffle again. This horror flick, helmed by first-timers Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, deals a hand that’s both terrifying and delightfully over-the-top. The film taps into the old-school charm of supernatural slashers, where a group of friends find themselves in a deadly game of cosmic consequences.

Horror movies can grow from any place. That’s one of the most exciting aspects of the genre – any idea can become scary as hell in the right hands. With flicks like Ouija: Origin of Evil and Annabelle: Creation surprising audiences, it’s not unreasonable to find great hits from even thin concepts. Tarot, the latest Sony and Screen Gems horror film, seeks to replicate this success. Unfortunately, despite great creature designs, Tarot stumbles over its own feet at every opportunity. The result is not only frustrating but an absolute slog.

Writers/Directors Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg keep it simple with the PG-13 horror movie Tarot. Instead of a cold open to hook audiences on the horror, Tarot launches straight into introducing the group of seven friends partaking in a party weekend at an isolated manor.
It’s there that they dabble with things they shouldn’t, setting in motion a curse that will pick them off one by one, slasher style. With an equal group of monsters to match, Tarot has the makings of a breezy gateway horror movie perfect for sleepovers, though it’s undermined by surface-level characters and storytelling.

Alex Garland may have said that he’s not planning to direct again in the foreseeable future, but he is currently directing another film while his movie Civil War heads out into the world and he works on the scripts for the upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy (a follow-up to his Danny Boyle collaboration 28 Days Later). Garland’s new directorial effort is called Warfare, and he’s co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. Originally titled Horrorscope, Screen Gems is getting set to unleash Tarot in theaters this coming May, and the film has just received its official rating from the MPA this morning.
Tarot has been rated “PG-13” for “Horror violence, terror, bloody images, some strong language and drug content.” You can watch the previously released trailer down below.
The film comes exclusively to movie theaters on May 3, 2024.
When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards in the upcoming Screen Gems horror movie Tarot. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.
This one looks like a fairly generic teen horror movie, but the concept could at least allow for a fun array...

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers for next week: Finn and Steffy find themselves on opposite sides
The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers for next week’s episodes of the CBS soap tease more drama as February sweeps end.
Much of the month has been focused on love, including Eric (John McCook) and Donna’s (Jennifer Gareis) wedding, more Hope (Annika Noelle) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) movement, and new couples forming.

Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for an upcoming horror flick titled "Tarot." This one was originally going under the title "Horrorscope," but the powers that be decided to be a little more straightforward about what's happening here. Yes, it's about deadly tarot cards and, based on the trailer, it looks very much like what one might expect from a horror movie about deadly tarot cards. Check it out for yourself above.
The footage doesn't give away too much by way of story specifics. It focuses more on the gimmick, which is that this possessed tarot card deck unleashes various deadly beings on its unsuspecting victims. It is also pretty heavy on the jump scares for those who are into that sort of thing. It appears to be cut from the same cloth as 2014's "Ouija." Whether or not that's a good or a bad thing is up...

"Who's next?" Sony Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a horror movie arriving this summer titled Tarot, about tarot cards, obviously. After those Ouija board movies, it was inevitable that one day someone would make a Tarot horror and here we are. This project was also titled Horrorscope since it's adapted from a book called "Horrorscope", but it has been switched back to just Tarot for the release in May. The plot centers on a group of college friends who start dying in ways that are connected to their fortunes after having their horoscopes read. Before their time runs out, they have to work together to uncover the mystery. "Your fate is in the cards" - of course. Tarot stars Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, and Jacob Batalon, along with Humberly González, Alana Boden, Larsen Thompson. Well unfortunately looks as cheesy as could be, with plenty of obvious horrific moments and jump scares.
