Promenade, a new film from John Jencks, has begun production in Brighton this week. More on the film below.
We’re hearing rumbles that a new British film is heading our way sooner rather than later from director John Jencks. The Hippopotamus director is helming Promenade, a Brighton set whodunnit, next and the project has just started filming, we hear.
The announcement comes with an ambiguous tagline: “50 Cast, 12 Stories, 1 Plot. No Heroes.” Colour us intrigued.
Here’s a synopsis for the film: In Brighton on the South coast of England, sharpened by the sting of sea spray, and mellowed by numinous light, a tight-knit community of oddballs and heart-felts live together in a tatty old mansion, the Fletcher Apartments. When a golden feather, the priceless antique mascot of the building, unexpectedly disappears, the residents have a mystery to solve. The moment a group of Cornish fishermen and lifeboatmen turned their charitable crooning on the shore of Port Isaac into a Universal Music record deal that saw them debut in the top ten was the moment producers started falling over themselves to sign the life rights for a cinematic adaptation. And just as the band subsequently released another two collections of sea shanties and traditional folk songs despite their original one-album contract, it appears that Chris Foggin’s feel-good dramedy will soon receive its own sequel. I guess that’s the power of Fisherman’s Friends and their inspiring bond steeped in history, work ethic, family, and friendship. They’re a band that’s as easy to underestimate as they are to champion once they’ve proven you wrong because the music doesn’t lie.

The casting search for male twins for leading roles in the new Cbbc sci-fi drama series World's End went international, with American actors and models Carlos and Marco Esparza landing the roles of Noah and Luke.
Shooting on the series has been taking place in Manchester since May, at the newly opened Space Project, and filming is now underway on location at Bamburgh Castle and its nearby beaches in the North East.
Also starring in the new series are 18 year old newcomer Jade Johnson from Hertfordshire who plays Cat. Jade is a member of the girl group Cru Band.
18 year old Erin Armstrong (represented by Bwh) as Mackenzie. Erin, from Glasgow plays Cassie in the BBC series Shetland, and was recently seen in the BBC Three musical drama Glasgow Girls.
