Over the past few years, tons of new Shonen series have premiered that have reminded fans of older shows that they have grown up watching. Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover is one that fans have grown attached to because it reminded them of their favorite series. Though some call it a lack of creativity for the Shonen viewers, it is a blend of everything exciting.

Moreover, in the recent turn of events, where Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia fell from the grace of heaven due to its mediocre ending, Tabata-Sensei’s magnum opus soared in popularity. Part of the series’ fame goes to the epic rivalry between Asta and Yuno, which some believe to be the best in the new-gen Shonen series.

Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover has been built on the reputation of negativity and backlash, where it was even called the cheap copy of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. However, the series has transcended criticism, becoming the best Shonen series of the next generation. Part of the series’ popularity was when Tabata-Sensei jumped ships from Shonen Jump to Jump Giga, which changed everything for the better.

From Terminator-eyed strikers to flame-wreathed shots on goal, no bombast is too much in this feature-length extrapolation of Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s popular series
Like Squid Game meets Shaolin Soccer, this feature-length extrapolation of Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s popular manga and anime set in a football training academy treats the beautiful game like an epic showdown between demonic forces or a Kurosawa-esque assault on a mountain fortress. Terminator-eyed strikers, flame-wreathed shots on goal, players zoning out in an amniotic limbo; no bombast is too much when hammering home Blue Lock’s key message: a star centre-forward must have an almighty ego.
The head coach is even called Jinpachi Ego. In trying to identify a unique attacking talent for the Japanese national team at the elite Blue Lock academy, he is unimpressed by the close-knit bond between the two final recruits: rich kid Reo (voiced by Yuma Uchida) and his diffident schoolmate Nagi...

Sports anime and manga series generally do quite well in Japan, although they are not as popular in the West as some other shounen titles (just look at Haikyuu!! or Slam Dunk), but there are some exceptions. One of the most recent ones is the football (soccer)-centered manga series Bluelock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Published since 2018, the manga currently has 28 collected volumes and is still ongoing.
On top of that, a 24-episode anime adaptation was produced in 2022, becoming one of that year’s major and most popular titles. The anime series has been renewed for a second season, but that is not all, as it has been confirmed that the spin-off manga, Bluelock Movie -Episode Nagi-, will also be adapted in the form of a movie, which is set to come out on April 19, 2024 in Japan.

HoneyWork,s also known as Haniwa, is an independent music circle, and the creator of Confession Executive Committee. The franchise is one of the group’s major projects. Although existing as a Vocaloid circle since 2010, it was not until 2014 that they made their professional debut with Zutto Mae Kara Suki Deshita. Many of their most popular songs were done with Vocaloid, but over time, their discography included human singers more often, with a Vocaloid version of the song as an alternate cover. Their repertoire also includes demos for certain vocal synthesizers, as well as collaborations with major musical artists such as Sphere and Nogizaka46. Lip×Lip is a virtual idol duo consisting of teen idols Yujiro and Aizo (voiced by Kouki Uchiyama and Nobunaga Shimazaki respectively). Beginning in 2016 with their debut song “Romeo”, the duo have since gone on to provide music featured in the Confession Executive Committee franchise. In-universe,...

I had no idea what to expect upon sitting down to Your Name and the first few minutes definitely had my head spinning. We’re ushered in via the voiceover narration of two high schoolers we’ve yet to properly meet in Mitsuha (Mone Kamishiraishi) and Taki (Ryûnosuke Kamiki). They speak about dreams as a rare comet shoots across the blue sky. It’s cryptic, beautiful, and utterly fascinating—a subdued tone easing us in before a kinetic collage of vignettes without context replaces it, a Radwimps rock anthem blaring about love. This shift to music video interlude proves jarringly abrupt; its culmination marked by Mitsuha awakening from slumber a wonderful splash into the deep-end of this anime’s high concept romantic fantasy.
