Batman: The Long Halloween had been adapted into two films that, albeit handled poorly by Warner Brothers, were still relatively well received by fans. It seems that there could be a third film to round out the trilogy, as DC has announced its follow-up to The Long Holloween, a 10-issue series by the writer of Daredevil: Yellow, Batman: Hush, and Batman: The Long Halloween, Jeph Loeb.

While there are no official indications of a threequel being made to round out the Long Halloween trilogy if a film were to be made, it is most likely that the actors of the other two films will reprise their roles for the third one. DC’s My Adventures With Superman is returning for a second season and the makers seemed to have pulled all the stops to make it a bigger and better follow-up to the hit show. The animated series stars Jack Quaid as Superman and Alice Lee voicing Lois Lane. The show also sees Jimmy Olsen as a significant part of the trio.

While the show has references to multiple other DC characters and artifacts, it has yet to feature one of the IP’s most popular characters Batman. Whenever it comes to the Dcau, fans often look back to Bruce Timm’s masterful work on Batman: The Animated Series, which by many is still considered the peak of the caped crusader. John Oliver has some ideas for DC co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran as to who should be their next Batman.

On the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver discussed the Supreme Court agreeing to take on Donald Trump’s immunity case and whether ex-presidents can be prosecuted. The HBO late-night show host said that the answer was an obvious, “Yes!”

Oliver went on to cite other obvious answers like, “Did Robert Durst kill those people? Or Which cereal mascot f***s the most? Or who should play the next Batman? And for the record, the answers are, absolutely, it’s not even close [Tony the tiger], and Natasha Lyonne.”

The comedian joked the Russian Doll star would make a great casting choice whenever they cast the next Batman.

Robert Pattinson’s Batman could have been a part of James Gunn’s Dcu but has since been labeled an Elseworld story, distinct from what will be offered in the Dcu. However, despite the more grounded approach that the character and the universe have taken, it is possible to tie it in with characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, and the wider DC Universe.

Matt Reeves’ version of The Dark Knight will exist in its own little universe for the time being. A different version of Batman will be part of the wider Dcu, one that will make its debut with Damien Wayne as its Robin. However, should the need arise to include Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the mix, multiple avenues are afforded to the Dcu, to stitch the Reeves-verse with the wider Dcu.

James Gunn’s development of the new Superman reboot and Dcu kickstart, Superman: Legacy, wasn’t affected by the strikes as the writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was able to submit his screenplay just before the writers started their picketing. While the dual strikes were in effect, he was able to continue with the project purely with his director’s cap on. Pre-production is currently continuing in full force, and more and more news of casting is released, including a new Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher being cast with Skylar Gisondo and Sara Sampaio.

No premiere date was announced today; hopefully we’ll be seeing this one make a splash at San Diego Comic-Con this summer.

Colin Farrell reprises his Batman villain in this eight-episode DC Studios drama series that continues The Batman epic crime saga that filmmaker Reeves began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ $771 million-grossing global blockbuster last year. After teasing that he and fellow DC Studios CEO Peter Safran today began talking up some of the movies and shows we can expect. And that includes new versions of Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern and more. Watch the announcement here, and read the full breakdown below.

Gunn started by confirming that the existing DC movies still to be released — Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – will all still make it to cinemas, with The Flash and its universe-rebooting nature proving key to helping to usher in the new paradigm. They will lead into what Gunn and Safran are calling 'Gods And Monsters', effectively the first chunk of the first part of the plan. It'll be a mix of TV (both animated and live-action) and movies, with games tying in as needed.

So what can we expect? Gunn talked up 10 initial titles.

Officially confirmed today with the announcement of DC’s massive upcoming slate of big and small screen projects, Matt Reeves‘ The Batman 2 will be branded as an “Elseworlds” film within the new DC Universe, existing separately from the fresh core universe.

The Batman 2 is currently set for theatrical release on October 3, 2025, we’ve learned this afternoon as well, with Robert Pattinson returning to play Bruce Wayne/Batman.

When new DC Co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran took their new posts last fall, there was a lot of agita in town with their swift decisions.

This included the axing of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, pausing the future of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and subtracting Henry Cavill from their new Superman Legacy movie after the actor (with Warner Bros) announced his return on social as the Man of Steel and appeared in Black Adam.

For some, the most tantalizing aspect of director Matt Reeves’s three-hour opus The Batman was not just a fresh look into the early days of the Caped Crusader. Rather, it was the surprise cameo of Barry Keoghan as the Joker. It’s not that the movie didn’t have its fair share of villains, ranging from big personalities, such as the Riddler and the Penguin, to John Turturro’s menacingly understated turn as crime boss Carmine Falcone. But Reeves took a surprisingly grounded approach to Batman, even more so than previous director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. How many members of Batman’s famously colorful rogues gallery could fit this aesthetic?

Turns out, more than you would think. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is among many filmmakers, including The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson, pitching ambitious DC projects to Warner Bros....

It seems like since the merger with Warner Bros, Discovery CEO David Zaslav is not just overseeing the productions of previously announced projects, but he also appears to be cleaning house on movies or TV shows that the company can stand to save some money on. There already have been over 30 titles removed from HBO Max as a result. Now, TV Line is reporting that the six more animated HBO Max/WB animated projects are getting the axe.

HBO Max continues its baffling decisions regarding its animated programming, with six animated projects no longer making their way to the direct-to-consumer streaming platform, TheWrap has confirmed.

Among the projects that will no longer stream on the platform: “Batman: The Caped Crusader,” from “The Batman” director Matt Reeves, J.J. Abrams and comic book luminary Ed Brubaker; “Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story,” an animated “Family Matters” spinoff; and two high-profile “Looney Tunes” features.

While those projects are still in development, some of which are pretty far along, TheWrap has confirmed that “Driftwood,” an original HBO Max animated feature from Victor Courtright, has been fully canceled.
