Not Dead Yet has been averaging 2.7 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), down 21% and 40% from its freshman run. Among the three sitcoms that ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks last in both measures.

ABC’s Not Dead Yet is no longer living up to its title.

The network has canceled the comedy, which stars Gina Rodriguez, after two seasons. Not Dead Yet drew the smallest audience of ABC’s three half-hour comedies this season, averaging about 3.2 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings (which don’t include streaming).

The cancellation leaves ABC with just two comedies on its 2024-25 schedule for the moment — Abbott Elementary, which is going into its fourth season, and The Conners, which is ending with its seventh. The network also has a pair of comedy pilots starring Tim Allen (Shifting Gears) and Ty Burrell (Forgive & Forget) but likely won’t make decisions on either one until after next week’s upfronts.

Created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, Not Dead Yet stars Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, who takes a job as an obituary writer after her life falls apart.

“The Conners” has been renewed for Season 7 at ABC, which will also be the show’s last. In addition, ABC has canceled “Not Dead Yet” after two seasons.

The final season of “The Conners” will reportedly be shorter than past seasons, with sources saying it will run for just six episodes. ABC declined to comment on the length of the season.

“The Conners” originally debuted on ABC in 2018. It began as a revival of “Roseanne,” but following Roseanne Barr’s tweets about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, the revival was canceled. Not long after, it was announced the show would continue as “The Conners” without Barr, with her character being killed off in “The Conners” premiere episode.

Prime Video’s set an October 2023 premiere date for season three of the popular comedy Upload. Starring Robbie Amell, season three will kick off on October 20th with the release of the first two episodes. Two new episodes of the eight-episode season arrive on subsequent Fridays.

The premiere date announcement was accompanied by the first photos from season three along with plot details.

The shows join a list of nine total renewals including “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (season 34), “Bachelor in Paradise” (season 9), “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (season 4), “Celebrity Jeopardy!” (season 2), “Not Dead Yet” (season 2), “Shark Tank” (season 15).

The news comes on the heels of several cancellations including “Big Sky,””Alaska Daily,” and “The Company You Keep” (the latter shows were axed after just one season). Announcements for “The Rookie: Feds,” and “Home Economics” will be revealed at a later date.

The “Conners” will return for a sixth season. The show’s Season 5 finale, which aired on May 3, scored a 0.45 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers during its 8 p.m. timeslot, ultimately defeating the series finale of “The Goldbergs,” which earned a 0.30 rating among the key demo and drew in 2.5 million total viewers as the show came to a close after 10 years on the network.

ABC’s first-year comedy Not Dead Yet is showing strong signs of life.

The pilot episode of the Gina Rodriguez-led series, produced by 20th Television, has pulled in the biggest debut audience for a comedy on the network in more than four years — since The Conners premiered in October 2018.

Over its first five weeks of release, the series debut grew to 10.2 million viewers and a 2.91 rating among adults 18-49. That’s a nearly threefold increase in viewers from its same-day audience (3.61 million) and more than six times its initial rating in the key ad demographic. The 561 percent increase in adults 18-49 is the largest ever over the 35-day period for an ABC comedy premiere, and the 6.6 million viewers it added over that time is the most since The Conners premiere.

Set against the background of the afterlife, the show tells the story of a man who dies and is uploaded to a "digital afterlife program." After Nathan's (Robbie Amell) untimely death in a tragic accident, his consciousness is uploaded into an after-death virtual living facility called Lakeview. The romance between Nathan and Nora (Andy Allo), the living customer service angel he interacts with through his hologram form, also makes the crux of the story. The futuristic society functions with complicated, advanced technology at the center and comes from Emmy-winning writer Greg Daniels, who is known for his creative work on popular comedies such as "The Office," "Parks and Recreation," and "King Of The Hill."

The show's first two seasons are currently streaming on Prime Video, and "Upload" has been renewed for a third season.

Not Dead Yet picks up with Nell late for the first day back at her old job — five years ago, she threw away a promising career to move to London for a man, and now her catchy headline would read “local woman, 37, ruins own life” — but with a best friend, lifestyle editor Sam (Hannah Simone), to cover for her. Dennis (Joshua Banday) is now Nell’s boss and puts her on the “deadbeat” (obituaries) and shows her her office (a closet). Her first assignment is Monty Waxberg, whose most famous jingle is for bubble gum (one Nell hated as a kid). “Everyone has a story. After a few rough years, one could make a compelling argument that the broadcast comedy is back. We’ve got an awards juggernaut (ABC’s Abbott Elementary), some reasonably big hits (NBC’s Night Court, CBS’ Ghosts), plus a decent roster of above-average relative newcomers (NBC’s American Auto and Grand Crew, among others). The Jane the Virgin vet stars in ABC’s new comedy Not Dead Yet — premiering this Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8:30/7:30c — as Nell Serrano, a journalist who moves back to the States from London after a broken engagement. A new drama with This Is Us‘s Milo Ventimiglia and a comedy with Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez will join ABC’s primetime lineup at midseason. The network’s also adding the unscripted series The Parent Test as well as the crime drama Will Trent starring Ramon Rodriguez this winter.

ABC’s moving season five of The Rookie to Tuesdays at 8pm Et/Pt, and they’re changing The Rookie: Feds‘ timeslot from 10pm to 9pm Et/Pt. The new drama Will Trent will finish up Tuesday’s primetime schedule at 10pm beginning January 3, 2023.

A Million Little Things kicks off its fifth – and final – season on February 8, 2022 at 10pm Et/Pt following the two-episode premiere of Gina Rodriguez’s Not Dead Yet.

The Sentinel Awards returned on Tuesday night at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theater for its first in-person ceremony in three years, honoring 12 shows whose storytelling tackled powerful and timely topics.

She will play a new character, Sam, in the project based on Alexandra Potter’s 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up. Sam, who is a colleague of Rodriguez’s Nell, is part of the retooling of the single-camera comedy, which now is leaning more heavily into the workplace, with the female-friendship storyline from the pilot phased out. As a result, Jessica St. Clair and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who played Nell’s girlfriends Annabel and Fiona in the pilot, did not continue on the series.
