Note: The following story contains spoilers from “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” Episode 10.
Over the course of its 10 episodes, “American Sports Story” chronicled three murders, a grisly gunshot wound, Aaron Hernandez’s growing drug problem and several more harrowing scenes. Yet, perhaps the most upsetting moment of all happens in the final moments of Episode 10.
Instead of detailing another grisly scene, the FX drama ends with Jaylen Barron’s Shayanna watching a group of children play football. The more she watches them play, the more her smile falls as the weight of Aaron’s (Josh Andrés Rivera) creeps into her mind.
For series developer and executive producer Stu Zicherman, the question of how to end the show was always a hard one. “I didn’t want to end it in prison with Aaron. It felt too sad,” Zicherman told TheWrap. “We wanted to find a way to show this idea...

[This story contains spoilers from the ninth episode of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, “What’s Left Behind.”]
“What’s Left Behind” is an apt title for the ninth episode of FX limited series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez. With Odin Lloyd’s murder tackled in episode eight, Hernandez (played by Josh Rivera) clearly reached the point of no return. Waving off the police who show up to his home in the night to ask him questions as they investigate Lloyd’s (played by J. Alex Brinson) murder is a very temporary fix. By the episode’s end, Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna “Shay” Jenkins, with whom he shared the home, is caught between her man and child’s father and her younger sister Shaneah Jenkins, who is literally grieving the loss of her partner, Odin, on the couch in that home.
Episode nine focuses squarely on Jenkins as her world begins to crumble after Hernandez is arrested...

FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Henandez episode 9 finally covers the trial we have all been waiting to see. But by now, the facts of the story are nothing but blurs as the fiction in Ryan Murphy’s sports drama takes the wheel. Spoilers ahead if you missed the penultimate episode, “What’s Left Behind.”
Spoiler alert! Final spoiler warning as we’ll be diving into Sport Story episode 9. Go stream the latest chapter on Hulu before reading ahead.
Even as Aaron Hernandez (Josh Andres Rivera) is being taken away from his home in handcuffs for the murder of Odin Lloyd (J. Alex Brinson), he displays attitude and confidence. Aaron appears to believe this will eventually all blow over and he’ll walk out a free man. Unfortunately, for him, we know this is not the way it is going to work out for Aaron. It goes to show, however,...

Very few people emerged from the Aaron Hernandez saga looking well. That’s the case for Shayanna Jenkins, the late Hernandez’s fianceé who came under a great deal of media scrutiny for her role in the football star’s first murder trial. Going into “American Sports Story,” star Jaylen Barron knew she signed up for a difficult rolw, which is precisely why she was careful to always bring “empathy” to her version of Shayanna.
“I feel like she was villainized in the media, and a lot of people came at her without even understanding what was going on,” Barron told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association’s 2024 summer tour. “I have so much love for her and respect for her. I feel like I fell in love with this character, and I’m so protective of her … I think [this role] will bring a lot of light to what women go through whose partners are incarcerated.

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez hits the breaks in episode 7, dragging the events that lead up to Aaron’s arrest. I have to admit, it’s very frustrating that we still have not reached the key point of the story: The arrest, trial, and death of the former NFL player.

The hit drama kicked things off with Aaron (Josh Andres Rivera) in the car with his friend Sherrod (Roland Buck III). Aaron shoots Sherrod in the head and dumps his body outside of a warehouse, assuming his friend is dead. Unfortunately, for Aaron, Sherrod miraculously survives. He was shot in the eye, but just in the right spot to where Sherrod can make a full recovery. Well, he lost an eye,...

From the outside looking in, Aaron (Josh Andrés Rivera) couldn’t be happier. NFL dream? Achieved. Money? Plenty of it! A loving partner? Shayanna (portrayed by Jaylen Barron) is everything Aaron could ask for. Yet, Aaron is far from happy. And it’s easy to see why. In fact, his newfound fame and wealth has made his life worse.

Sports Story episode 6, titled “Herald Street,” breaks down the final straw for Aaron. In the episode prior, Shayanna grows suspicious of Aaron’s late nights. Ryan Murphy’s American Sports Story kicked off its first season based on Aaron Hernandez and the reception is just not that great. Fans called out the cringe-acting performances and the inaccuracies in depicting football in the series. However, actor Laith Wallschelger is receiving all the love from fans after he nailed the role of Rob Gronkowski.

Hernandez and Gronkowski were one of the most dominant tight end duos in the NFL, playing for the New England Patriots. The series explores Hernandez’s arrest and conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd. During the trial, Hernandez was found dead in his cell, reported to be a suicide.

American Sports Story episode 5 continues the tragic rise and fall of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez. Now, is it a true story? For the most part! But episode 4 threw more fiction our way than facts. The latest episode, however? Takes us back to reality (again…for the most part).
Episode 5 focuses on the dark side of the NFL, and how warning signs of Aaron’s (Josh Andrés Rivera) mental illnesses were ignored, as well as his troubled history. Instead, the NFL player was continuously pushed past his limits.
When all is going well for Aaron Hernandez, he’s great. When Aaron goes back into town, he even reaches out to high school sweetheart Shayanna (portrayed by Jaylen Barron) and she eventually moves in. This is great for Aaron, he now has a loving and caring woman by his side. Aaron also continues to see his brother DJ (Ean Castellanos) as often as possible,...

Being all things to all people is impossible. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to live up to people’s expectations, your efforts find a way of sabotaging your best intentions from the inside out. The pressure to perform regardless of your mental well-being often follows athletes like a relentless ghost. All it takes is one slip-up to send you on a downward spiral. In the case of Aaron Hernandez, the gridiron warrior learns the hard way that football dreams and crime don’t mix. FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez trailer digs deep into the athlete’s downfall for a cautionary tale about expectations, drugs, and throwing it all away.

The premium cable movie channel Starz has reportedly canceled three of their shows plus one upcoming project, according to Deadline. Starz will no longer be continuing the run of the wrestling drama Heels, as well as Run the World and Blindspotting. In addition, the channel has also decided not to proceed with The Venery of Samantha Bird. Heels, Run the World and Blindspotting have all completed two seasons, but The Venery of Samantha Bird was in the middle of production when the show paused for the strikes. Two episodes were left to film in the season.
Heels was produced by Lionsgate and Paramount Network Television and the plot, per Deadline, “revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. There are some big changes at Starz, and it's bad news for four shows.
Variety reported Monday evening that the premium cabler has canceled Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting and is scrapping The Venery of Samantha Bird ahead of its premiere.
Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting lasted for two seasons on the premium cabler, but it seems that the trio didn't have enough interest to sustain additional seasons.
The highest profile of the three shows was Heels, which starred Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, a man who inherited the league from his father.
However, he struggled to keep things running well, leading to plenty of drama across the two seasons.
The cast also included Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, and Trey Tucker.
Rounding out the cast were Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk.

Starz has axed three existing drama series and one upcoming project.
The network has binned Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting as well as not moving forward with The Venery of Samantha Bird.
Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting all aired two seasons and The Venery of Samantha Bird paused production in May due to the strikes with two episodes left to film.
Heels revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig) war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

Starz is canceling four of its series, Variety has learned exclusively. Specifically, “Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” will not get new seasons at the cable network, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” Season 1 is being scrapped without airing.
“Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” all recently aired their second season at Starz, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” was in production on its first season. Production was shut down, however, at the onset of the WGA strike. It was reported at the time that only two episodes of the first season were left to shoot.
“The Venery of Samantha Bird” was to star Katherine Langford as the title character. Per the official logline, “Samantha, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But the couple’s picture-perfect love story isn’t as sweet as it seems on the surface.

Starz announced the cancellation of four of its series, including “Blindspotting,” “Heels,” “Run the World” and “The Venery of Samantha Bird,” TheWrap has learned.
An individual with knowledge of the decisionmaking told TheWrap that the shows “unfortunately did not find a large enough audience” to be renewed for more episodes. A decision has yet to be made on the series “Minx,” which aired its Season 2 finale on Sept. 8.
The decision to remove the shows from the slate came after strong consideration, and per the insider, the network hopes to work with Rafael Casal (“Blindspotting”), Daveed Diggs (“Blindspotting”), Rachelle Williams-Benary (“Run the World”) and Mike O’Malley (“Heels”) in the future. Each of these shows have all aired their second seasons.
“The Venery of Samantha,” starring Katherine Langford and created by Anna Moriarty, only had two more episodes of its first season left to film, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes impacted its cancellation.

It started with a movie that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2018, examining the delicate balance navigated by a Black man almost at the end of his parole. It came two and a half years before the explosion of the Black Lives Matter movement but managed to capture that social sentiment in an accessible way laced with humor and heart. A spin-off TV series made sense, but opting to make it without the onscreen star power of Daveed Diggs was certainly a brave choice. Fortunately, Starz’s “Blindspotting” has been a wonder to behold, and season two only continues to show what audiences likely didn’t even realize was missing from everything else they’ve been watching.

“Blindspotting” seemed to neatly tie the story of Ashley (Jasmine Cephas Jones) and Miles (Rafael Casal) by the end of the Starz comedy’s eventful Season 2 finale. But a surprise cameo in the episode’s final moments presented a nod to the show’s predecessor — and an exciting path forward.
The episode, titled “Return to Ithaca,” followed the aftermath of Miles’ surprise release from prison. He arrived back home near the end of the penultimate episode just as Trish (Jaylen Barron) confronted Ashley about kissing another man while Miles was in prison, which led them to a big rift in the couple’s relationship.
The finale followed as Ashley and Miles, along with the rest of their family, tried to figure out a way to move on after her betrayal and Miles’ surprise return. Though it took some time and difficult conversations, the couple was willing to put their troubles...

The latest episode of “Blindspotting” gave millennial fans something they never thought they’d get to see: Dante Basco essentially reprising the role of Rufio, leader of the Lost Boys in Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” — even if it was at a Halloween party.
The installment, titled “By Hook or by Crook,” followed as Jacque (April Absynth) invited her new beau Cuddie (Lance Holloway) to her family’s home in Daly City for a Halloween party. After being incorrectly advised by Trish (Jaylen Barron) into wearing a pirate costume to the event, Jacque freaks out upon arrival and reveals to Cuddie that her father is Dante Basco.
Given the actor’s history with pirates, Cuddie’s costume is understandably barred from the event. Though they try to hide it for a while, Basco eventually discovers the truth; leading to a “Hook”-esque sword fight between the men in Jacque’s life.

It’s often said that publicists are the unsung heroes of Hollywood, executives who work tirelessly behind the scenes with minimal recognition when things go well and maximum blame when things don’t. However, once a year, thanks to the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), publicists from all corners of Hollywood get a chance to bask in the spotlight of the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom for the Icg Publicists Awards.
Held on Friday, the 60th ceremony saw campaigns for Top Gun: Maverick and Abbott Elementary take top honors in film and TV categories, respectively. Both projects finished the day as double winners (kind of) as Top Gun producer Jerry Bruckheimer accepted the motion picture showman of the year award on behalf of his team while Brunson was honored with the television showman of the year prize. In their speeches, both Bruckheimer and Brunson paid special attention to the work of diligent reps.
