Prime Video’s hit series “Fallout” is set to return with a second season that actor Walton Goggins claims will dramatically surpass its first installment. In a recent interview at the “The White Lotus” premiere, Goggins expressed excitement about the show’s creative direction and production.

“This blows [Season 1] out of the water,” Goggins told reporters, praising the writers and production team’s efforts. The series, adapted from the popular Bethesda video game franchise, follows survivors emerging from a luxury fallout shelter 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse.

Fallout Season 2 is already shaping up to be a love letter to New Vegas.

The Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America East have chimed in with their selection of the best writing among television and film offerings of 2024. The 2025 WGA Awards nomination announcement was delayed a week due to the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles and scorched more than 40,000 acres. The guild currently plans to stick with its Saturday, February 15th date for the awards ceremony.

Ceremonies will take place in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton and in New York City as the Edison Ballroom.

TV’s best scribes are getting their moment in the spotlight: The Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw) and Writers Guild of America East (Wgae) have announced nominations for the 2025 Writers Guild Awards ceremony, which is to be held Saturday, Feb. 15.

The TV nominees include a number of first-timers, including the final season of Paramount+’s supernatural drama Evil, HBO’s Batman spinoff The Penguin and freshman series like Prime Video’s Fallout and FX’s Shōgun. Of course, usual suspects like Hacks, The Bear and Abbott Elementary are all present and accounted for as well.

Auteurs and studios being given carte blanche is now becoming a thing of the past, and the older television model of storytelling is slowly being favored as budgets begin to be slashed. The sureshot bets stumbled hard, with Indian content especially exhibiting its weakest year yet. But amidst all that, the strongest shows stem from the stalwarts, while miniseries led by singular visions manage to stand out once again. When Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Moisés Arias signed on to Jonathan Nolan’s “Fallout” TV series at Amazon’s Prime Video, the actors didn’t know where the adaptation of the popular Bethesda Game Studios franchise was headed. And that was fine by them, after reading the initial scripts that revealed the post-apocalyptic world their respective characters, Cooper Howard/The Ghoul, Lucy, Maximus and Norm, were surviving in.

“We got two episodes. Two episodes were written before we started to understand the tone. And then [the scripts] would dribble out,” Goggins said during a recent panel hosted by Variety.

In fact, Goggins said the finale script wasn’t delivered until a few days before filming.

“Yellowjackets” star Purnell says she had a prep meeting with show creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet ahead of even auditioning for “Fallout” to get a sense of the vibe they were going for with the show.

‘Fallout’ transports viewers 200 years post-apocalypse, where the survivors from luxury shelters face a new world that is as bizarre as it is dangerous.

The series, led by Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and Graham Wagner, brings a blend of dark humor and action that has resonated well with viewers, making it one of Prime Video’s top three most-watched titles.

Its premiere season also garnered 16 Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series.

Prime Video’s “Fallout” didn’t forget Macaulay Culkin. The “Home Alone” star has booked a recurring role in Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated drama, Variety has confirmed. There are no details yet to Culkin’s character on the series, but Deadline, which broke the news, wrote that it will be a “crazy genius type.”

Based on the video game franchise of the same name, the series is set two hundred years after the apocalypse. The official description states it follows “the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters that are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

Culkin’s recent credits include providing a voice on “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy,” as well as multiple episodes of “The Righteous Gemstones” and as part of the cast of “American Horror Story: Double Feature.

Since its inception in 1997, the Fallout series has been a popular video game franchise around the world. After Interplay and Black Isle, Bethesda took over the franchise and gave fans some exceptional Fallout video games. Fans have been waiting for nearly a decade now for the next Fallout game, but Bethesda gave fans the same Fallout experience, just in the form of a TV series.

With the help of Todd Howard, the mastermind behind the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series, a series that was canonical to the Fallout games was released in April 2024. The show was a massive success and it’s safe to say that Howard’s approach was what made it special. On several occasions, he has explained that he treated the series like another entry in the video game series.

The Fallout show is almost ready to start filming, according to an exclusive New York Comic Con interview. Based on the hit video game series, the show follows dwellers from Vaults 31, 32, and 33, alongside several survivors from the surface. Season 1 focused on the Vaults, the Brotherhood of Steel, and the bounty hunters as they began to uncover the secrets of Vault-Tec. The show premiered in April and aired exclusively on Prime Video. After Fallout season 1 ended with several cliffhangers, season 2 is expected to continue the show's overall narrative by exploring more about Vault-Tec.

Previously, the only news about season 2 was in August, when it was teased that production would begin "soon". Despite lining up box office bombs, Ssu is going strong with plenty of projects in development. ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is set to release in a week, ‘Kraven the Hunter’ releases in December, and ‘Spider-Man Noir’ is currently in development at Amazon.

The popular video game “Fallout” has become one of Amazon Prime Video’s most successful shows thanks to the collaborative work of its screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner. Bringing diverse experiences in film and television, the pair have crafted a nuanced narrative set in the post-apocalyptic world inspired by the games.

Robertson-Dworet focuses on action movies but understood the need for character depth. Wagner specializes in comedy but recognized “Fallout’s” dramatic potential. They spent five years carefully designing a story entertaining to fans but accessible to new audiences. “We needed humor to balance the difficult topic,” explained Wagner.

“Fallout” production designer Howard Cummings just received his sixth Emmy nomination in a category that covers a lot of territory and is also a mouthful: Best Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More). But as a fellow nominee pointed out, he might have an edge here.

“What’s funny is my Emmy category is a period and fantasy category, so they’re very disparate people in it. My greatest fear about Fallout season 2's direction has been put to rest and I couldn't be more thrilled. When asked about the show's sophomore outing in the past, showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner were pretty cryptic about whether Fallout season 2 would follow in the video game series' footsteps and be an anthology. If that were the case, each season of the TV show adaptation would be set in the world of Fallout while following different characters or, bolder yet, covering different chunks of Fallout's timeline, just like the video game installments.
