SAG-AFTRA has inked a deal with the AI company Ethovox as it creates a “foundational voice model” that serves as the basis for digital replicas.

According to the union, the contract “leads the field in performer compensation,” because it requires session fees as well as ongoing revenue sharing through the life of the foundational model. In addition to securing proper compensation for SAG-AFTRA members who want to participate in the building of the model, the union says it has secured a “commitment to diversity and inclusion” from Ethovox.

The foundational voice model will not be user-facing, and the voices included in the model will not be identifiable in generated speech.

“Ethovox is the only voice AI company owned and managed by voice actors, and we are pleased to be partnering with SAG-AFTRA on building a foundational voice A.I. model that prioritizes the interests of voice actors,” Ethovox CEO Cissy Jones said in a statement.

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and the developers have been keeping a steady flow of updates coming ever since. A while back, we heard a new killer character, a new victim character (with the voice and likeness of genre icon Barbara Crampton!), and a new map called The Mill (which brings to mind a location from the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) would be added to the game soon – and now we know exactly when The Mill will be available for players to enjoy: March 28th!

The date announcement was made on X, where it was revealed that The Mill will allow players to “scramble up multiple floors, traverse through a Ghost Town, or sneak around a dry river bed.”

A couple weeks ago, it was revealed that a new character portrayed by genre icon Barbara Crampton is being added to the game in an upcoming update – and now details on the character have been unearthed on the game’s official website! The character with Crampton’s voice and likeness is a Victim character named Virginia.

Here are the details: Virginia is a grief-stricken mother who cannot get over the disappearance of her son Jesse. She’s obsessive over his vanishing and refuses to believe that he could be gone. The weight of her pain is so immense she leaves behind her nursing career to move to Newt, TX, the last location Jesse was seen.

Gun Interactive have dropped a little behind-the-scenes video for fans who have picked up the recent Dlc for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, featuring new Survivor Danny, as well as the newest member of the Family in Nancy. The latter of whom is the topic of the new video.

Motion-captured and voiced by BAFTA-winning voice actor Cissy Jones, the video shows off Jones performing the brutal hammer hits and more in the mocap suit, as well as a brief interview with Jones on her work in the game.

It is crucial for actors and voice actors to have active consent and control over the use of their recordings in AI applications to protect their livelihoods. The lack of protections in current contracts allows companies to use actors' voices without compensation or notification, posing a threat to their careers and reputations. Fans can support the cause by informing actors when they come across unauthorized uses of their voices and by refusing to support platforms that exploit voice actors without consent.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA have been on strike since May 2 and July 13, respectively. Both unions are striking for a number of reasons, one of which is artificial intelligence. The technology is still relatively unknown, but the possibilities could prove dire for many professions in Hollywood, including actors and writers. The perils of artificial intelligence to the entertainment industry came to San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, with SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland joining a panel of voice actors organized by Nava, the National Association of Voice Actors, to discuss the specific hazards AI is already posing to the profession.

“We’ve got to reject the idea that this is just something that’s going to happen to us and we can’t say anything about it,” Crabtree-Ireland said at the outset of the panel, about whether AI could devastate the entertainment industry. “I think it definitely could, the question is whether we’re going to let that happen.”
