Actor Murugan Chillayah has shown his natural talent for acting and singing since a young age, participating in several arts competitions and showing his talent in singing competitions at the state level. His father Chillayah, mother Saradamah, younger brother Gopalan, and younger sister Kogilaveny gave him a lot of moral support in every achievement of his life and career.
He worked as a Singapore police officer from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, he also further studied International Business Management at the IBMEC Campus in Somerset, Singapore, but was unable to complete his studies because of tight work constraints in the Police Force.
His talent in Singapore begins with a blend of contemporary, folk, and modern dance with the Rameshwara dance group. He usually performs several outdoor dance videos for a prime-time television show on the Singapore MediaCorp Vasantham channel. In 2002, the popular dance performed was Podhumdaa-Podhumdaa (a Tamil song from the movie Arputham) at Chinese Garden, Singapore, with the Rameshwara dance group.
After his debut in the Metti Oli Singapore Show 2004, held in the Singapore Indoor Stadium, located in Kallang, Singapore.
Producer Murugesu of Singapore MediaCorp Vasantham offered him a Tamil serial drama opportunity. His first Tamil drama was an award-winning and popular drama Suttu Viral (Pointing Finger) by EagleVision Singapore, 2005, a police crime prevention real-story in Tamil version as Crime Scene Investigator named "Muru," along with Singapore actress Noorul Hassan Shareef, Kalaiselvi Grace, and several other artists.
He then appeared in the first romantic comedy Tamil drama directed by Singapore MediaCorp Vasantham's producer, Murugesu "Miss Janu," who portrayed the supporting role of "Suresh," the popular university student, along with Best Model of the World 1998 Annetha Ayyavoo from Singapore, who acted as "Miss Janu," the ugly swan, which turned into a beautiful princess.
His last Singapore television drama was 24/7, another romantic comedy drama as a secondary school teacher (short sequel role).
In 2021, Murugan Chillayah continued his studies at the University of People, California, United States, for a Bachelor of Science in Business. He has also studied in the specialized course of doping sciences under the supervision of Professor Fabien Ohl, dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
