Justin K. Cox was born in Texarkana, Texas to Carol and Kelly Cox. He attended Redwater ISD from 1993 to 2007, after which he graduated and proceeded to study Music Education at Henderson State University in 2007, Texarkana College in 2008 and Northwestern State University of Louisiana from 2010-2012.

He began exploring music composition while at Redwater High School in Texarkana, Texas and received his first public performance of "Degero" by the Redwater High School Band in their 2007 Spring Concert under the direction of Carl Hooper.

In 2008, Justin scored an orchestral soundtrack for a video-game called "Destinies of Eveh" which was slated by Brokenthorn Entertainment in 2009 but halted production in 2010. In that same year, he met and began working with director and producer Matthew Ramsaur on "Guardians" (2008) which received a live performance at Texarkana College that fall.

In 2009 Justin collaborated with filmmaker Armen Karaoghlanian and scored the music for Amorosa (2010) which later placed in the 2010 Burbank International Film Festival in Burbank, CA as well as the Colombia Gorge International Film Festival in Vancouver, WA.

During his tenure at Northwestern State University, Justin received live performances by the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra of two selections from the "Destinies of Eveh" video-game: "Ascension to Avenor" and "Destiny Awaits," as well as an arrangement of "The Bells of Saint Mary's" for the graduation ceremonies of St. Mary's Catholic High School in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Later in 2011, Justin regrouped with Matthew Ramsaur and composed cues for Ramsaur's "Witch Hunt 2." The two have since worked together on various films including Stiff Arm (2019) (2020), A Tessellation (2018) (2018), System 438 (2017) (2017), "In Between" (2016) as well others.

      • Trivia
Pianist and educator John Montgomery, of the Texarkana Academy of Musical Arts, was Justin's earliest influence for composition. Justin remarked of him, "I will never forget that wonderful man. I was often distracted in our lessons. I think I was more curious outside the book. Sometimes he would even put the book aside, if he knew I was on to something. He didn't suppress my curiosity, he encouraged it. That's where composition began for me".
