It's been almost a decade since The Accountant first introduced the world to Ben Affleck's autistic hitman Christian Wolff. A modest success when it came out in 2016, Gavin O'Connor's financial thriller has enjoyed a renaissance on streaming in the years since its release, with the exploits of the calculated, calculating killer winning the movie a loyal fanbase — and a full-blown sequel. Yes, 2025 is set to see The Accountant 2 hit our screens, with O'Connor back in the director's chair, Bill Dubuque once again handling the script, and Affleck returning alongside on-screen brother Brax (Jon Bernthal), U.S. Treasury investigator Ray King (J.K. Simmons), and Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). For a first look at the gang back in action, check out the new photos from the film that Amazon released earlier today:

Ahead of SXSW next month, Amazon MGM Studios have released the official trailer for The Accountant 2, offering a first look at the return of 2x Academy Award-winner and former Batman actor Ben Affleck (Justice League; Argo; The Town) as the titular accountant and the Punisher himself Jon Bernthal (The Punisher; Daredevil: Born Again; The Wolf of Wall Street) as his equally lethal brother.
The film's synopsis reads, "Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.

In the official trailer for Gavin O’Connor and Bill Dubuque’s The Accountant 2, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) turns to a smart speaker to break down the difference between dressy casual and business casual. It helps him decide not to wear the black suit the system tells him makes him look like a mortician. But when the stakes get a bit higher after someone he once knew gets murdered, Christian can’t turn to Siri or Alexa. Instead, he goes to his killing machine brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal).

The Accountant 2 trailer has arrived.
Gavin O’Connor returned to direct the sequel to his original 2016 film, which starred Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal and Cynthia Addai-Robinson among others like John Lithgow and Jean Smart. Bill Dubuque also returned to pen the followup as he did the script for The Accountant.
Simmons, Addai-Robinson and Bernthal will reprise their roles of Ray King, Marybeth Medina and Brax, respectively alongside Affleck’s return as Christian Wolff.
The film will hit theaters April 25, 2025, following Addai-Robinson’s Agent Medina as she has no choice but to reach out to Affleck’s Wolff to solve the mysterious murder of her former boss by unknown assassins. Bernthal’s estranged and highly lethal brother Brax will also get in on the action.
Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan and Grant Harvey round out the ensemble cast of the pic.

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are back in The Accountant 2, a sequel fans have been waiting for. The new film picks up with Christian Wolff (Affleck), the autistic accountant known for digging into financial crimes.
This time, he’s tasked with solving a murder case, and he’s going to need help from his estranged brother Brax (Bernthal), who he hasn’t been in contact with since the first movie.
The sequel has been a long time coming, with The Accountant 2 facing a tough eight-year development period. Director Gavin O’Connor has said the process was frustrating, calling it like a flower that was always ready to bloom, but kept getting stopped and restarted.
However, O’Connor is back behind the camera for this new chapter, which continues the story written by Bill Dubuque, who also worked on Ozark.
This time, O’Connor wants to balance action with deeper emotional connections.

Ben Affleck is back to his extremely particular ways in the action-packed first trailer for “The Accountant 2.” The sequel finds Affleck reprising the role of an autistic numbers whiz, this time teaming up with his brother (played by Jon Bernthal) to investigate the murder of his friend — J.K. Simmons returning for a brief stint.
The same filmmaking team that made the 2016 film a hit is back for the sequel: Gavin O’Connor directs from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque, although Anna Kendrick is nowhere to be seen in this first trailer. Instead, Affleck’s character is working alongside a federal agent played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson.
The first film was made by Warner Bros. and grossed $155 million against a $44 million budget, but grew in stature over the years. Affleck said he was spurred to make a sequel given how many people would come up to him and want to ask about “The Accountant.

In this new film, he is recruited to help solve a murder case by a treasury agent (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). But despite the mid-budget success of the first film, Vanity Fair reported that “The Accountant 2” was stuck in development for eight years, the process of which director Gavin O’Connor described as “brutal.

Ben Affleck's 2016 action thriller "The Accountant" has enjoyed a fair bit of a success as of late. In the spring of 2024, it became Netflix's number one movie as viewers tuned in to enjoy the Gavin O'Connor-directed film's star-studded cast and wonderfully silly action. The movie stars Affleck as Christian Wolff, a seemingly unassuming man who's on the autism spectrum. He works as an accountant for various criminal organizations and also happens to be a highly proficient combat expert, which comes in handy when he has to deal with a massive embezzlement situation. This kicks off a complex spider's web of a plot that features characters played by folks like J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Anna Kendrick, Jean Smart, and John Lithgow.

Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck’s character from the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, will be making his long-awaited return to the big screen this year – and his comeback is going to be a violent one. The Motion Picture Association ratings board recently revealed that they’ve given The Accountant 2 an R rating for strong violence, and language throughout. That happens to be the same rating the first movie received, for the exact same reasons. Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25 – and with that date just a couple of months away, a trailer for the film has arrived online! You can watch it in the embed above.
If you need a refresher, Wikipedia reminds us that Christian Wolff was “a certified public accountant with autism who makes his living (un-)’cooking the books’ of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement.

It’s tax season, and this year that means means two things: creepy H&r Block-mascot commercials and Ben Affleck’s “The Accountant 2.” That H&r Block mascot head, by the way, is a sniper’s dream, not that Christian Wolff needs much assistance with a rifle and scope.
In “The Accountant” franchise, Wolff (Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. In “The Accountant 2,” when an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. As strange as it is, moviegoers are fascinated by the assassin. Paid handsomely for their skills of stealth, marksmanship, martial arts, and general wanton violence, these contract killers have been the focus of some of the most thrilling and emotionally provocative films ever made.
Maybe it's because many of these hit-people share many viewers' relationship to their own work -- a disdain for the spiritually emptying but financially necessary professions that command much of their life. Maybe it's because a criminal mastermind of this nature -- so devoid of humanity that they reduce human lives to zeros in a bank account -- reveals more about the world around them than any other character type.
Or maybe it's because we just like watching people fight with guns and swords. In any case, we've put together our own hit-list of flicks featuring them, ranked based on their quality, legacy, and depiction of these captivating killers.

Sometimes, a show knows exactly when to drop the mic. Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, Ozark—Netflix’s gripping crime drama—had us all talking about money laundering and cartels as if we were running our own shady business in the Ozarks. From cartels to family drama, Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) sure made running a crime empire look like a full-time job, but in 2022, the Byrdes officially packed up and called it quits.
And oh boy, did it leave a dent!

Fans were hooked from day one, holding their breath as Marty risked it all for his family, all while trying to keep his morally questionable, life-threatening choices in check. But as the show wrapped up, the question on everyone’s lips was: Did it need to end? Or was the final season rushed out the door before its time? Some plotlines...

Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck’s character from the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, will be returning to the big screen next year – and his comeback is going to be a violent one. The Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they’ve given The Accountant 2 an R rating for strong violence, and language throughout. That happens to be the same rating the first movie received, for the exact same reasons. Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25, 2025. That puts it in direct competition with the video game-inspired horror movie Until Dawn, and means it will be in theatres for one week before the Marvel movie Thunderbolts* arrives.
If you need a refresher, Wikipedia reminds us that Christian Wolff was “a certified public accountant with autism who makes his living (un-)’cooking the books’ of criminal and terrorist organizations around the...

Ozark earned 45 Emmy nominations and four wins, in addition to honors at the Golden Globes, WGA, SAG and DGA Awards.
Similar to the storyline for M.I.A., Ozark was about family and the American dream.
MRC will produce the South Florida-set series about a family running drugs for Etta Tiger Jonze, but when her family is slaughtered, she seeks justice to avenge her blood family while she builds her chosen family. The result sends Etta on a series journey from a powerless orphan to South Florida’s most powerful criminal queenpin.
Karen Campbell will executive produce and showrun M.I.A., while Stefano Sollima will direct and executive produce. Earlier, Solima served as the creator and director of ZeroZeroZero and as the showrunner and director of the hit Italian series Gomorrah.
