Martha Plimpton and Mireille Enos have been officially announced as part of the cast of Brad Ingelsby’s upcoming series at HBO, a followup to his hit Mare Of Easttown.

Plimpton’s casting was revealed in the “Coming To Max in 2025” trailer released Sunday night, which also unveiled Task as the title of the show (fka Untitled Task Force Project), headlined by Mark Ruffalo. (You can watch it below)

The drama from Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby has added Martha Plimpton and Mireille Enos to its already large ensemble. Mark Ruffalo heads the cast as an FBI agent leading a task force investigating a string of drug-house robberies in the Philadelphia suburbs.

Fresh from his Academy Award win for best actor, “Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy now has a chance to claim the same honor at his local awards.

The Irish Film and TV Academy (IFTA) has unveiled the nominees for its 2024 awards, with Murphy going up against “Saltburn’s'” Barry Keoghan and “All of Us Strangers” star Andrew Scott in the best actor category. Elsewhere, Jessie Buckley (“Fingernails”) and Saoirse Ronan (“Foe”) are among those nominated for best actress, while Paul Mescal (“All of Us Strangers”) and Kenneth Branagh (“Oppenheimer”) are in the running for best supporting actor.

But it was actually Irish features leading the pack of nominees, with Lisa Mulcahy’s “Lies We Tell” landing 13, followed by “That They May Face the Rising Sun” and “Double Blind.”

The IFTAs ceremony will be take place on April 20 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre with Irish TV personality Baz Ashmawy on hosting duties.

Nominations are out for the 21st Irish Film & Television Awards with Lisa Mulcahy’s thriller Lies We Tell leading the pack on the feature side at 13, and crime drama Kin heading up the TV fields with 11 (scroll down for the ful list of nominees). In what was a banner year for Irish talent, there are several awards season notables vying for Best Actor as well, including Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan and All of Us Strangers’ Andrew Scott.

The Best International Film race includes All of Us Strangers, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, Saltburn and The Holdovers.

Beta Cinema and the UK’s Free Turn Films and Tempo Productions have officially announced Nick Hamm’s epic drama William Tell, as its under-the-radar shoot enters its final week in Italy.

The partners have unveiled a first-look image of Claes Bang in the role of the legendary crossbow-wielding warrior (scroll down to check it out).

Two long years after Netflix first dropped its “Tiger King” docuseries, the first scripted stab at retelling the wild story of warring big cat enthusiasts Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin has landed, as was inevitable. “Joe vs. Carole,” premiering March 3 on Peacock, stars John Cameron Mitchell and Kate McKinnon as Joe and Carole as they vow to take the other down. At this point — months after a Netflix follow-up to “Tiger King,” podcasts such as the one this series is based on (Wondery’s “Over My Dead Body”), and countless memes and late-night jokes later — anything purporting to shed more light on this particular saga has a high bar to clear in order to be anything less than repetitive. In this respect, “Joe vs. Carole,” despite some decent performances and effective directing from Justin Tipping, rarely justifies its existence.

Nominations have been announced for this year’s Irish Film And TV Academy Awards (IFTAs). Scroll down for the full list.

Leading the way with ten apiece are Kenneth Branagh’s much-fancied awards contender Beflast and Irish-language feature An Cailín Ciúin, which recently won the Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus program at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Both titles are up for Best Film, alongside Deadly Cuts, Swan Song, Who We Love, and You Are Not My Mother. Of those six, four are debut features.

For Belfast, Branagh will also contend for the Best Director and Best Script prizes. The film is up for seven Oscars this year.

On the TV Side, crime drama Kin dominated the field with 13 nominations, including Best Drama, as well as director, script, actor (twice) and actress. Vikings:Valhalla, the Netflix sequel of the popular historical show, received seven noms, as did BBC show Hidden Assets.

Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” and Colm Bairéad “An Cailín Ciúin” lead nominations at the 2022 Irish Film and Television Academy Film and Drama award nominations with 10 nods across categories.

“Belfast” is nominated for best film, best director and script for Branagh, with a lead actor nod for Jude Hill, supporting actor recognitions for Ciarán Hinds and Jamie Dornan and a supporting actress nod for Caitríona Balfe, besides craft nominations.

“An Cailín Ciúin” (“The Quiet Girl”), which won the grand prize at the Generation Kplus strand of the recently concluded Berlin Film Festival, was similarly recognized across the main categories.

“Kin” led the drama nominations with 13 nods, while “Vikings: Valhalla” and “Hidden Assets” had seven each and “Smother” five.

Sky has launched the first trailer for the upcoming scripted adaptation of the 2020 Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King ‘Joe Vs Carole.’

The eight-episode series is based on real-life events and the fierce rivalry between Carole Baskin and Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and their two Big Cat businesses. Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon will play Carole and John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) takes on the role of Joe Exotic.

Peacock has unveiled the official trailer for its new miniseries “Joe vs. Carole,” starring John Cameron Mitchell and Kate McKinnon.

Based on the Robert Moor-hosted Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic,” “Joe vs. Carole” focuses on the bitter rivalry between big cat zookeeper Joe Exotic (Mitchell) and animal sanctuary CEO Carole Baskin (McKinnon), which was immortalized in the first season of the popular Netflix docuseries “Tiger King.” In addition to Mitchell and McKinnon, the miniseries also stars Kyle MacLachlan, Brian Van Holt, Sam Keeley, Nat Wolf, Marlo Kelly, William Fichtner, Dean Winters and David Wenham.

Sam Keeley is an absolute beast throughout this entire episode. At last, we get the opportunity to see his remarkable range as he encompasses all the different sides of Eric.

His scene in the cell is a brilliant metaphor for the whole family's situation.

Eric is in a small room, with violent death threats coming at him from all sides -- but he can't see where they are coming from. He can only rage, pound the walls, and fight back. He doesn't know if his cries will do any good, but he knows he can't just sit there and take it.

It's all about family on Kin Season 1 Episode 1.

These days, for a crime drama to set itself apart from the rest, the characters and relationships have to be deeply compelling because it ups the stakes of the action. If the characters care about each other, we care about them. Such is the case with Kin.

The love on display within the Kinsella family stands in sharp contrast to the sordid business in which they deal -- drugs, violence, murder, money laundering, and God knows what else.

Kin boasts a tight-knit ensemble cast of Irish power players. The acting is superb and grounded, but with this cast, that's to be expected.

Charlie Cox is Michael, the most subdued member of the Kinsella family, fresh out of prison.

Why Michael was locked up remains a mystery, but I suspect it has something to do with the conspicuously absent mother of his daughter.

Every streaming service needs a breakout series.

Netflix had House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, Hulu had The Handmaid's Tale, and Apple TV+ had Ted Lasso.

If the first six episodes are any indication, Kin should be the breakout series for AMC+, and it's all thanks to the superb writing, acting, and directing.

Coming from Peter McKenna (The Last Kingdom) and Ciaran Donnelly (Altered Carbon), Kin focuses on one of the biggest crime families in Dublin, the Kinsellas, and how they process the loss of one of their own.

The beauty of a series like Kin is that none of the characters are guaranteed safety. Instead, the culture of crime families at war ensures that a devastating turn of events could change everything on a dime.

Charlie Cox has played exciting characters during his career, and Michael Kinsella might turn out to be his best to date.

Michael gets out of prison on the series premiere of the new AMC+ drama series, and he quickly finds himself drifting back into his old ways when someone close to him is killed.

I got the chance to chat with Charlie ahead of the debut, and he revealed he was immediately attracted to the project after reading the script.

The actor said he was moved by the fact that the series revolves around this multi-layered crime family who lose one of their own and are forced into an unimaginable situation.

"We meet a man who seems very broken and fragile and delicate. He's quite unlike the rest of the characters."

"What we learn quickly is that that is not how he has been in the past," the star continued.

Emmett Scanlan is starring on the AMC+ crime drama Kin as Jimmy Kinsella, an integral member of the Kinsella crime family.

When we caught up on the phone, Scanlan was 30 minutes late, and it was for a very good reason -- his infant son kept his parents up well past their bedtime.

Scanlan hoped that the interview wouldn't go too deep into storylines or plots that he couldn't wrap his head around given his lack of sleep.

He needn't have worried. Once the conversation got started, his excitement over the project was apparent. And since fatherhood is important to Jimmy, knowing its importance to Scanlan was welcome.

It's been a decade since Scanlan played bad boy Brendan Brady on the UK soap opera Hollyoaks. While some people don't like to recall their time on soaps, Scanlan feels blessed.

"Wow. That's a blast from the past," he said when I brought up Hollyoaks.

Starting this Thursday on AMC+, Maria Doyle Kennedy will be seen as Birdie Kinsella in the new Irish crime series, Kin.

Kennedy has been charming audiences since her debut in the movie The Commitments. Her television roles are downright iconic at this point, including her role as Queen Catherine of Aragon on The Tudors, Siobhan "S" Sadler on Orphan Black, and Jocasta Cameron on Outlander.

On Kin, she's Bridget "Birdie" Goggins, one of the sprawling Kinsella family, who run a Dublin drug syndicate.

We managed to catch a few minutes with her to talk about the show, which features a superb cast, including Charlie Cox, Aidan Gillen, Claire Dunne, Ciaran Hinds, and Emmett Scanlan.

There is another highly-acclaimed show set in Dublin about the drug trade, Love/Hate, but Kennedy says that it won't be difficult for Kin to make its own mark on the audience.

The beloved actor was set to lead an Amazon drama series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.”

But it sounds like the Tiger King craze is coming to a close with a thud.

“I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together,” Cage said to Variety of the decision.

“They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”

Indeed, the world has changed substantially since Netflix's wildly successful docu-series hit the air in 2020.
