Ryan Neil Butler is a Sunshine Coast based multi award winning writer/director, who cut his teeth as a video editor at Nine News while working on independent film sets. His Sunnycoast Showdown winning film Bin Day (2023) has gone on to win multiple awards, most notably the Fun is Good Bill Murray Comedic Shorts award, chosen by Bill Murray, at the Twin Cities Film Fest in Minnesota.
Priding himself on being a performance based director, wanting his actors to feel comfortable in their roles. He has worked with stars from Boy Swallows Universe (2024), Supernatural (2005), Apples Never Fall (2024) and Home and Away (1988). His films have been seen around the world including America, Canada, Milan, India, Spain, and across Australia. He believes strongly in the education of future filmmakers for himself and others. Taking any chance he can to teach, often speaking at different institutions and events. Ryan operates as a freelance director for hire. Directing commercials, corporate videos and of course film. He believes in the power of story and its ability to unite, inform but most all entertain. Feeling that all other creative decisions stem from the heart of any script.
