When word of The Boroughs, a new series produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers, first got out more than two years ago, the supernatural/horror drama was referred to as “Stranger Things at a retirement home.”
Netflix pushed back at that description and the link between the two shows. At the streamer’s Next on Netflix 2025 slate presentation Wednesday, the Duffers made the connection themselves, revealing for the first time that, like their Stranger Things counterparts, the characters in The Burroughs also will be battling “otherworldly evil.”
The Duffers made the comments while speaking about two upcoming series from their Upside Down Pictures, The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.
“Of the two projects, The Boroughs probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil,” Matt Duffer said. “Only unlike Stranger Things, it...

For the Duffer Brothers, the Next on Netflix 2025 event was a platform to discuss the end of their Emmy-winning global hit series “Stranger Things,” and the beginning of the next chapter of their partnership with the streaming service.
After the presentation began with a clip reel teasing how Season 4 villain Vecna and the Upside Down have invaded the characters’ hometown of Hawkins, Indiana, the filmmaking pair came onto the Egyptian Theatre stage in Hollywood to share some behind the scenes details about the show’s final season.
“This is our biggest and most ambitious season yet. It’s like eight blockbuster movies,” said Ross Duffer. “At the same time, we think it’s our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film—for us and for our actors,” said Matt Duffer.

Netflix has ordered up horror drama series “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen” from producers The Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Things”). Today, Deadline reports that the series has found its stars and enlisted “Baby Reindeer” director Weronika Tofilska to helm four episodes.
Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six, Death Wish) and Adam Dimarco are set to star in the Haley Z. Boston-created horror drama.
As for the plot, the series is “an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride (Morrone) and groom (Dimarco) in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title…”
Haley Z. Boston serves as series showrunner and executive producer. Boston is no stranger to horror, either, having previously written for Netflix’s “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities “and “Brand New Cherry Flavor.“ That alone bodes well for a series described as “atmospheric horror.

Benito Skinner recalled Charli Xcx playing her guest role on his upcoming comedy series “Overcompensating,” saying it was “so insane.”
“I was so proud of her,” Skinner told me at GQ’s Men of the Year party on Nov. 14 in Los Angeles. “She came on set and she was absolutely incredible and she blew everyone away. But the fact that she did [‘Overcompensating’] while also touring the world and doing the Sweat tour, it was insane. We’re so lucky to have her in the show.”
Before her appearance on the Amazon show was announced in October, it was revealed that the “Brat” hitmaker would be producing original music for the series, which follows the college life of a closeted former high school football player and homecoming king (Skinner). The cast also includes Wally Baram, Mary Beth Barone, Adam Dimarco and Rish Shah as series regulars, with Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan,...

Rejoice, The White Lotus fans! And get ready to dance to one of the most strange opening themes on TV. The White Lotus season 4 may actually be happening after all. Here’s what we know.
The first season of The White Lotus caught me by surprise. Because of the talented cast that includes Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, and Sydney Sweeney, I know I would enjoy the series. But I never thought I would absolutely love it. HBO’s The White Lotus easily became a must-watch and favorite. From the mesmerizing opening theme to the clever writing, there’s so much to love about Mike White’s The White Lotus.
Its popularity skyrocketed, not stopping after the first season. Instead, the satire comedy-drama grew to an anthology. Season 2 follows different characters, with the exception of a few, focusing on a new story. The second season stars F. Murray Abraham, Adam Dimarco,...

The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy has discussed the possibility of reprising her role while at New York Comic Con. The HBO dramedy is an anthology where each season takes place in a different location of the titular fictional luxury resort, including Hawai'i, Italy, and Thailand. The upcoming The White Lotus season 3 is also set to feature the return of Natasha Rothwell as season 1 staff member Belinda Lindsey.

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.

I couldn’t figure out the password and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”
Plaza said that she has requested DVDs of the series to watch it, adding, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”

With apologies to the Kentucky Derby, the 2024 awards season should be dubbed “The Run for the Roses.” From Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes to Margot Robbie and Emily Blunt at Critics Choice to Meghann Fahy at the 2023 Emmy Awards, have floral details ever dominated a succession of red carpets so strongly?

It’s the 12th episode of the series overall.
In “Abductions,” after admitting their marriage needs work, Ethan (Will Sharpe) grows suspicious of Harper (Aubrey Plaza) and Cam (Theo James). As they look forward to a lavish party at Quentin’s (Tom Hollander) Palermo estate, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) gives Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) a hazy warning about Jack (Leo Woodall). Meanwhile, the Di Grassos head out in search of distant Sicilian relatives, but Dominic (Michael Imperioli) bristles when Albie (Adam Dimarco) invites Lucia (Simona Tabasco) along as their translator. “Abductions” was written and directed by series creator-showrunner Mike White.

HBO dominating the Emmy nominations is hardly a surprise, given both historical trends and the year they’ve had. But it couldn’t have come at a more crucial time.
Amid endless media speculation around the cuts and bad P.R. missteps of Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav, HBO — notionally the jewel in the crown of the newly-formed Wbd’s television empire — cleaned up. In the best drama race, HBO picked up a startling four nominations. In a happy coincidence, those four nominations, which tie an all-time record, represented the two halves of what HBO has lately done well, between pushing IP-driven storytelling to new heights in the cases of “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us” and turning carefully wrought, creator-driven drama into organic zeitgeist hits with “Succession” and “The White Lotus.”
The success in the drama field somewhat overshadows HBO’s strength elsewhere, too; they...

All of your favorite SAG Award-winning cast members from “The White Lotus” Season 2 are back in the awards conversation yet again, this time for the 2023 Emmys. The Emmy ballots were officially unveiled on the Television Academy’s website on June 15, the same day nominations-round voting began (it will conclude on June 26 at 10:00 p.m.), and 15 actors from HBO’s drama series have been submitted for Emmy consideration.
Top of the heap in terms of visibility is Jennifer Coolidge. The beloved actress won an Emmy last year for the first season of “The White Lotus” (back when it was still classified as a limited series) and then went on to prevail at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards. This time around she’s competing in Best Drama Supporting Actress alongside six of her co-stars: Meghann Fahy, Beatrice Grannò, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson and Simona Tabasco.

Editor’s note: The following interviews were done outside of the FYC event series, as there was no panel or screening.
When it comes to assembling the quintessential ensemble cast for a series, it’s an art, not a science; an organic melding of faces and emotional forces. No more was this important than in the high stakes second season of HBO’s drama series White Lotus in which we’re pulled into the posh, sexy allure of those upper-class denizens on vacation only to relish in their deceitful sides and hijinks, warts and all. The series not only propelled fresh faces to the forefront such as Natasha Rothwell in season one, whose Hawaiian White Lotus resort spa manager is returning for the Eastern religion and spirituality set season 3, but it’s also shown a fresh, dynamic range of actors we’ve seen previously, i.e. Jennifer Coolidge and Alexandra Daddario among several others.

Jennifer Coolidge’s open disdain for boating did nothing to dissuade The White Lotus creator Mike White from subjecting the actress to three days of queasy and often claustrophobic filming on a yacht anchored off the Sicilian coast. Her discomfort was his inspiration.
“She had such a bad time filming on the boat in the first season that I just imagined telling her, ‘Yeah, now your character is going to die on a boat,’ ” says White. “Maybe I’m sadistic or something, but I knew Jennifer’s reaction was going to make me laugh so hard.”
Typically, any mention of a hit drama eighty-sixing its star would be prefaced by a boldface “spoiler alert,” but even the most fleeting frames of the HBO series’ second season — say, for example, the chaotic wardrobe choices for Haley Lu Richardson’s Portia — became unavoidable pop culture events. Haley Lu Richardson’s drink of choice is a tequila soda. When she’s not at her Los Angeles home with her cat Derbin, dancing alone to Phoebe Bridgers (Richardson’s activity of choice when she needs to recharge), the actor can be found sipping the classic mixer at any one of the star-studded events she’s attended over the past year. Following the 27 year-old’s breakout role as Portia in HBO’s “The White Lotus,” she’s been everywhere from Oscar after parties to her first New York Fashion Week.
However, Richardson’s most thrilling night out was hundreds of miles outside of Hollywood, before the world was introduced to Portia. While filming “The White Lotus” in the desolate Italian city of Taormina, Richardson planned an excursion to...

Haley Lu Richardson was a fan of the first season of “The White Lotus” on HBO, but she had no idea what the future would have in store for her just a year later. In the Sicily-set installment, she plays Portia, the aimless assistant to Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) who’s told to “get lost” as soon as they arrive by Tanya’s husband Greg (Jon Gries). Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually auditioned for a project that I really wanted and thrown myself at it and then gotten it,” Richardson gleefully admits, adding that “the times when I auditioned for something I just knew in the back of my head, there’s no way I’m going to be the one that they pick at the end of this. It’s just like the way the world works. But yeah,...
