Man Kills, Jesus Saves Kickstarter Has Launched
The immensely talented creative duo of Jayme Karales (Practice Makes Perfect, The Hutchcast) and Joel Amat Guell (8 Minutes, Practice Makes Perfect) are at it again, this time joining up with Slasher Studios founder Kevin Sommerfield for a Kickstarter to fund their upcoming horror film Man Kills, Jesus Saves. Don’t Go to the Reunion (2013)
Don’t Go to the Reunion is an independent film, an homage to popular slasher fiction of the 1980′s and 90′s and has a budget next to nil. You can pretty much guess all three of these facts by the title alone. The title itself plays on the “Don’t” subgenre popular during the late 70′s and early 80′s, a personal favorite of mine that was spoofed to perfection by Edgar Wright in his “Don’T” faux trailer featured in the movie Grindhouse. Once I knew that a new release was coming with a “Don’t” title I was excited to review it. Let’s see how it holds up against the other titles in this grouping, and figure out who it’s meant for.

Synopsis:

A prank goes too far for the popular students at Hamilton High as they begin to pay for their actions 10 years later at their high school reunion.

Film Students' Traumatizing Work Banned From College Presentation ... But We've Got it Here!
Steve Goltz and Kevin Sommerfield are burgeoning filmmakers at Arizona State University. After hearing that no student work would ever be censored by the college's film program, the duo set out to create an in-your-face slasher flick to appeal to horror fans. Thus, Teddy: It's Gonna Be A Bear was born and was then promptly yanked from the Annual Capstone Film Showcase, the film program's big screening of the year.

Even though the flick is so impressive that it was selected to be shown at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, one of the college's faculty members described it as "troubling and traumatizing." To which our young filmmakers replied, "Thanks, it's a horror movie."

Unfortunately, the problem doesn't end there. Goltz and Sommerfield have already seen underclassmen change or abandon their scripts for fear of being censored by the college's film program. Now that's no way to treat a young filmmaker.
