In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Live, Martin Short tried his hand at directing a Charlie Brown Christmas pageant.

“You’re watching Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas,” the sketch begins. “We now return to the animated classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas.“

We cut to the Charlie Brown kids dancing to iconic theme song “Linus and Lucy” ahead of the beginning of rehearsal, when Martin Short enters and yells, “Stop dancing!”

“Um, who are you?” asks a girl played by Chloe Fineman.

“I’m Drake Tuttle, local theater legend,” Short replies. “Your principal hired me to direct your pageant.”

“But Charlie Brown’s our director,” says the character of Ashley Padilla.

“And I’m sorry to say he’s dead,” Tuttle says.

This stuns the kids, but Tuttle continues, “To me. He’s dead to me…Sorry, I shouldn’t have paused after ‘dead.’ That was my mistake.”

Tonight on Saturday Night Live, Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim hosted the Cibo Express Christmas Week Airport Parade, live from Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport.

“It’s chaos, it’s mayhem, and everyone’s afraid,” sing their Tsa agent characters in the sketch. “It’s the Christmas Week Airport Parade!”

“Good evening from Newark,” says Nwodim, “which is how you say ‘New York’ if you’re on pills, which I am.”

Nwodim introduces herself as Agent Chartreuse Hamilton; Bowen, as Umberto.

“Umberto, what kind of name is that?” asks Chartreuse.

“Well, my parents were unsure about naming me Berto,” Yang responds, “so they told the nurse, ‘Um, Berto?'”

“Love,” Chartreuse replies. “Umberto, who can we expect to see on the parade route this year?”

Umberto says there will be “some new appearances,” as well as the return of “some old classics,” with Chartreuse then going on to...

The holiday season isn’t over just yet, which means there are a lot more Christmas specials on the horizon, including comedian Nate Bargatze’s “Nashville Christmas.”

This will be the Grammy-nominated comedian’s first primetime special, which will feature a mix of stand-up comedy and musical performances. Bargatze also serves as executive producer for the show alongside “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels. The special was filmed at Nashville’s live music venue the Grand Ole Opry, where Bargatze landed his first job sweeping the building’s steps.

“I used to sweep the steps of the Grand Ole Opry, so to get to do a show there… Cause I did a stand-up show there, but actually now to be do something even kind of bigger then that is, it’s beyond comprehension,” Bargatze saind in an interview with “Good Day Sacramento.”

You got to hand it to Martin Short — in the time it takes for most Saturday Night Live hosts to tell us about this week’s musical guest, he manages to roast six different celebrities for the holidays.

First up? Three SNL cast members who don’t get a lot of shine: Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and newcomer Ashley Padilla. The three enter Studio 8H to find it stuffed with a dazzling array of holiday gifts. “Are these for us?” asks Walker.

Of course they are, shouts Short, beckoning them to the stage. In fact, Short has gotten each of them something special. “And that something special is a job, wrapping all my presents for all my famous friends,” he exclaims. “Which, of course, you three aren’t.”

That festive sound you hear is three SNL cast members roasting over an open fire.

Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas is airing tonight!

The one-hour holiday-themed variety show, starring the 45-year-old comedian, podcaster, director, and producer, will air on CBS starting at 9 p.m. Et. After its debut on CBS, the special will be able to stream on Paramount+ the following day.

The Nate Bargatze special promises to provide a blend of stand-up comedy, pre-taped comedy shorts, sketches, and musical performances from special guests.

As Martin Short prepares to join the “Saturday Night Live” five-timers club as host of the last episode of the year, he still has some work to do in order to be ready for Christmas.

Luckily for him, “SNL” stars Michael Longfellow, Ashley Padilla and Devon Walker are on hand to help him wrap presents for his famous friends … since they obviously don’t fit that criteria.

“I got you each a little something special,” Short says in Wednesday’s new NBC promo. “And that ‘something special’ is a job, wrapping all my presents for all my famous friends, which, of course, you three aren’t.”

“Alright, now this book is for Colin Jost. It’s called, ‘How to Develop a Personality’ — cocaine calls him ‘The Challenge,'” he shares. “Now this baby rattle is for Al Pacino. Not his baby … it’s actually for Al.”

The first promo for his Saturday Night Live hosting stint this Saturday finds the former castmember and Only Murders in the Building star holding forth on what he’ll be getting for his celeb pals, including Colin Jost, Al Pacino and something special for Only Murders co-star Steve Martin.

Short also has a special surprise for castmembers Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Ashley Padilla.

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost enjoyed a very rare public date night at The American Museum of Natural History’s 2024 Museum Gala on Thursday night (December 5) in New York City.

The longtime couple posed for photos together on the red carpet at the American Museum of Natural History.

For the occasion, Scarlett wore a black velvet ballgown with pockets while Colin opted for a sleek tuxedo.

They were joined at the event by many of Colin‘s Saturday Night Live costars and some other stars, including Paul Mescal. 72-year-old sports analyst is the former head coach of the New England Patriots Bill Belichick also made his red carpet debut with his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson!

Updated with the latest: Saturday Night Live has announced the its host and musical guest duos for the December lineup. Gladiator II star Paul Mescal will take on the monologue and more Dec. 7 with musical guest Shaboozey. The following two shows will include pairings with hosts who are SNL alums. Chris Rock will host Dec. 14 with musical guest Gracie Abrams, and Martin Short will host Dec. 21 with musical guest Hozier.

Saturday Night Live will open its landmark 50th season on NBC with a run of four consecutive live shows, leading off with an Emmy winner and featuring several repeat hosts.

Hacks star Jean Smart will host the season premiere on Sept. 28, with Jelly Roll as musical guest; both will make their debuts on the show. On Oct. 5, comedian Nate Bargatze will take his second turn as host, with musical guest Coldplay.

They’ll be followed by Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks on Oct. 12, and Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish on Oct. 19. After a one-week break, John Mulaney will host on Nov. 2 with musical guest Chappell Roan. Grande will make her second appearance as host, Keaton his fourth and Mulaney his sixth. Bill Burr will return to host the post-election episode on Nov. 9 (his second time as host) with musical guest Mk.gee. Charli Xcx will both host and serve as musical guest on Nov.

Saturday Night Live celebrated Thanksgiving with the “it girls” this year.

The sketch revolved around a Thanksgiving dinner featuring the episode’s host Charli Xcx as Posh Spice herself, Victoria Beckham.

It also included Bowen Yang as Marc Jacobs, Chloe Fineman as Julia Fox, Ego Nwodim as Naomi Campbell, Sarah Sherman as Rachel Sennott, Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Heidi Gardner as Cher and Kenan Thompson as Law Roach.

“Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update is once again anchored by Jost and Che, as they’ve done every week together since September 2014. As of the 47th season three years ago, they are officially the longest-serving duo in the history of Weekend Update.

At the most recent Emmy Awards, the variety series won its 101st trophy overall, making it the biggest winner in the history of the Television Academy.

Following last week's superb episode of "Saturday Night Live" featuring comedian and former "SNL" writer John Mulaney, showrunner Lorne Michaels decided to stick with seasoned stand-up comedian talent by bringing Bill Burr back to host for a second time. Burr isn't exactly the most versatile performer when it comes to sketch comedy or acting in general, but he can do a few things pretty damn well, especially if it involves being belligerent and from Boston, two things that go hand-in-hand. 

While Burr's first time hosting "SNL" in the fall of 2020 wasn't a home run, it had some solid sketches, including a memorable Sam Adams beer commercial parody. Unfortunately, it seems like the wind was really sucked out of the sails of the writers room this week, presumably because of the election results, and this episode felt pretty clunky, landing somewhere between aggressively average and just plain poor.

"Batman" and "Beetlejuice" star Michael Keaton returned to "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in nearly a decade to wrap up the last of four consecutive episodes of the late night sketch comedy series. Coming off two strong episodes hosted by stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze and recording star/perpetual theater kid Ariana Grande, there was a lot of hope that the cast and crew of "SNL" could keep the momentum going into this last episode of their first month back for the historical 50th season. 

Unfortunately, it seems like they might have been running out of steam a bit, because despite Michael Keaton's best efforts, the episode didn't really feel like it utilized the actor to his full potential. That's not to say Michael Keaton's season 50 episode of "SNL" didn't have some high points, because there were certainly laughs to be had, but there were far more average sketches than remarkable ones,...

It’s Halloween season and even evil fictional characters can’t help but celebrate.

The legendary killer Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise has been causing hearts to stop since 1978, but it appears he wants to have a little more fun this year.

On tonight’s SNL, an actor named Jaxson (Mikey Day) is wearing the cinematic monster’s mask in a sketch about a fictional new sequel, Halloween Rises, as the cast and crew ready a kill scene.

Chloe Fineman and Ashley Padilla play Haley and Sasha, Myers’ intended victims, respectively. They’re sitting on the couch at home watching a scary movie when Myers opens the sliding door behind them without bringing any attention to himself. With his hands on his hips, the killer breaks into a dance following the beat of the film’s theme song.

The director (Andrew Dismukes) stops production immediately to give Jaxson some direction.

Exclusive: Verve is expanding its talent and literary divisions with the hires of Jennifer Trofa as a TV Literary Agent and Allison Nguyen as a Talent Agent.

Trofa joins Verve from Range, where she worked as a manager since 2020. Before that, she held roles at UTA in both the Motion Picture and TV Lit departments. Marcello Hernández’s work week starts Monday evening with a pitch meeting in Lorne Michaels’ office and doesn’t end until Sunday morning at 1:02 a.m. after Saturday Night Live wraps.

In between sketch writing (and re-writing), read-throughs with that week’s host and days of rehearsals, the SNL breakthrough castmember also finds time to hit the Comedy Cellar in the West Village or other comedy clubs in New York City to maintain and perfect his stand-up routine.

“If you open yourself up to being tired, you can get a lot more done,” the 27-year-old tells The Hollywood Reporter, laughing.

Hernández joined the SNL cast in 2022 and, since then, has become one of the show’s secret weapons, starring in several sketches that have made waves online, including “Protective Mom,” “Nightclub Line” and “Dune Popcorn Bucket.“

Jean Smart struggles to get a word in with Saturday Night Live‘s season 50 premiere promo, battling it out against nostalgic flashbacks to early seasons of the show.

“Fifty years of hosts, 50 years of laughs, 50 years of memories,” the Hacks star — who will host the season premiere this Saturday — says in the promo. Her words are interspersed with clips from early seasons of the show, featuring stars like Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin and more.

As the trailer continues, Smart says, “You’re actually going to show a clip from every season to cut me off?” Her sentences then become more fragmented as further flashbacks interrupt her mid-sentence and mid-word.

“Can we make this a little bit more about me?” she quips.

Smart will be joined by musical guest Jelly Roll, both making their debut on the show. On Oct. 5, comedian Nate Bargatze will take his second turn as host, with musical guest Coldplay.

The episode earned Gosling an Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series Emmy nomination, partly thanks to the wildly popular “Beavis and Butt-head” sketch. Gosling lost out on the trophy to The Bear’s Jon Bernthal.

“Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update...

The trips down memory lane continued at the Emmys Sunday as former Saturday Night Live vets Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Seth Meyers and Bowen Yang reunited on stage to help celebrate the late night show’s 50th anniversary this season.

Ahead of SNL‘s Sept. 28 premiere, the alums gathered to yuk it up about how much Lorne Michaels has lost the Emmy — 85 times, to be exact — before giving away the trophy for Best Writing for a Variety Special.

It’s a big year for the venerable franchise. Jason Reitman‘s SNL origins movie, Saturday Night will have a limited release in Los Angeles, NYC and Toronto beginning Sept 27 before breaking wide on Oct. 11.

Chloe Troast’s exit from Saturday Night Live was “not my choice,” the comedian told fans on social media Wednesday.

“Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know that I will not be on SNL next season,” she wrote on TikTok. “This was not my choice, I wish I was there getting to be with my friends. It truly felt like a second home. Thank you to everyone. I love you all.”

Chloe Troast took to Instagram today to reveal that her first season on Saturday Night Live would be her last.

The 27-year-old comic received praise for both her memorable characters and her singing voice during her freshman stint on NBC‘s iconic sketch show.

But Troast stunned her followers today by announcing that she was “not asked back” to SNL for its upcoming 50th season.

On the eve of the kickoff of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary season, the show announced that it was hiring three new cast members, according to Deadline: Ashley Padilla of the Groundlings, stand-up comic Emil Wakim and TikTok star Jane Wickline. In a somewhat surprising move, Chloe Troast revealed that she won’t be back after a promising first season, joining Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney as departing cast members.

As for the new cast members? Padilla comes to the show from the Groundlings, the improv sketch troupe that’s delivered cast members like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and Molly Shannon. She recently guested on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Night Court.

Wakim becomes the show’s first Lebanese-American cast member. He made his Tonight Show debut in 2022 and has spent recent years opening for Hasan Minhaj and Nikki Glaser.
