Stuart James Cameron, Director of Photography
A native of Canada, Stuart James Cameron discovered his passion for capturing life through a camera lens at a young age. He pursued this interest by studying Film Production and earning a Bachelor's degree from Kings University while concurrently completing the IATSE 667 program at Sheridan College. Stuart also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Ted Rogers School of Management (TMU).
Stuart's journey into the realm of cinematography commenced with hands-on roles as a camera operator and lighting technician on various film sets. These early experiences provided him with a solid understanding of the technical aspects of filmmaking, which would later become integral to his work.
As Stuart's career progressed, he gained recognition for his ability to seamlessly blend technical precision with artistic sensibility. His distinctive style is characterized by meticulous attention to detail, mastery of lighting, and a profound understanding of how visuals enhance storytelling.
Stuart James Cameron's career spans over two decades, encompassing a diverse range of projects, including narrative, episodic, and documentary work, as well as commercials and music videos. Notable projects include the 2017 short film "Latched," which received a Best Cinematography nomination at the Queens Film Festival, the 2019 feature film "Making Monsters" directed by Justin Harding and Rob Brunner, and his 2021 work as 2nd unit director of photography on the drama TV series "The North Water," directed by Andrew Haigh, starring Colin Farrell and Jack O'Connell. Additionally, Stuart's 2023 Adidas '321 Runner' commercial secured the highly coveted Direct Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Lions International Festival.
His upcoming projects include serving as the Cinematographer on Santa Rita's Film Co. Little League Baseball Movie, titled "You Gotta Believe," directed by Ty Roberts and featuring an ensemble cast including Luke Wilson, Greg Kinnear, Sarah Gadon, and Molly Parker. The film is set to premiere in 2024.
