Spooky Season is now well underway, and that means a deluge of new horror movies for the next two months straight. Today alone, Eight new horror movies have just been unleashed.

First up, the darkest – and most financially successful – chapter in The Conjuring Universe continues in The Nun II, which is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Valak returns in The Nun II from director Michael Chaves (Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), and you can read Meagan’s review right here.

Taissa Farmiga will be back as Sister Irene, with Bonnie Aarons again playing the demonic nun known as Valak. Storm Reid (“Euphoria”) will also star in the film.

There is a streak of boundary-pushing and wantonness to this Norwegian comedy-horror that bodes well for the career of director Viljar Bøe, even if this, his third feature, is not executed with quite enough finesse to match the rabid premise. It hangs on the quintessential modern dating conundrum: what would you do if you bagged your dream partner, only to find out that they live with someone who dresses and acts like their dog?

Earlier this year, Saban Films picked up the North American distribution rights to the Norwegian thriller Good Boy. Now it has been announced that they’ll be giving the film a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on September 8th – and with that date swiftly approaching, a trailer has arrived online! Saban Films has picked up the North American rights to Scandinavian thriller Good Boy from Blue Finch Films.

Written and directed by Viljar Boe (Til Freddy), the film stars Gard Lokke (Troll), Katrine Lovise Opstad Fredriksen in her feature film debut and Amalie Willoch Njaastad (Cabin Crazy). Saban is targeting a third-quarter theatrical release.

Even in the most indulgent romance novels, it is usually understood that young, handsome, wealthy men are rarely single unless they have secrets. Sigrid (Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen) knows this well enough, but she’s still unprepared for what Christian (Gard Løkke) keeps hidden away in his mansion. When they go back there, he remains light-hearted and friendly. The sex they have is quite vanilla. But in the morning, she meets his dog.

This is Frank (Nicolai Narvesen Lied). He’s not a dog in the conventional sense, but a man in a dog costume. Is this puppy play? The costume doesn’t really suggest that – nor do they interact like furries. In fact, says Christian, it isn’t sexual at all – and he tells her a tale of a close friend with a traumatic past who simply can’t cope with the stresses of being out in the world.

It might have been a simple story of boy meets girl, but this boy, Christian (Gard Løkke), apart from being very rich, has an unusual way of living which might put most girls off: he shares his home with a friend, Franks, who wears a furry suit and spends all his time pretending to be a dog. Sigrid (Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen) is not exactly used to that kind of thing, but when she realises that it’s completely platonic, and when he explains it as something he’s going along with to help his friend through trauma, she decides to give the relationship a chance. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only thing that’s unusual about Christian, and by the time she realises that, it might be too late.
