Exclusive: Spenser Granese (Dope Thief) is the newest addition to the cast of Marty Supreme, director Josh Safdie’s new film for A24, starring Timothée Chalamet, sources tell Deadline.

Character details are under wraps, as with the film’s plot, though the project supposedly takes loose inspiration from the story of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. Sources close to the production have stressed, at the same time, that it’s a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic.

Pic’s eclectic ensemble also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, musician Tyler, The Creator, Odessa A’zion, magician Penn Jillette, Shark Tank panelist and entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful), Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, and filmmaker Abel Ferrara.

True Whitaker, his youngest daughter, shared photos of their evening on her Instagram Stories. The 26-year-old posted images of the Dune: Propechy billboard, Forest hugging Prophecy star Tabu, and herself beaming with her dad. The latter photo featured a tear eyed emoji and red heart emoji. True calls her dad “very supportive” of her acting career, reports the NY Post.

Timothée Chalamet surprised fans at his own look-alike contest in New York City on Sunday, where the rowdy event resulted in at least one arrest.

Chalamet posed for photos with several of his doppelgängers present at the event — many of whom were dressed as the actor’s most famous characters, including Willy Wonka and Dune‘s Paul Atreides. The Associated Press reported general chaos surrounding the event, where Chalamet was flanked by body guards and some fans seemed to mistake look-alikes for the real actor.

The contest had been previously advertised on flyers around New York and was one of several doppelgängers events hosted by YouTuber Anthony Po, with a $50 prize for the winner. Look-alikes were interviewed onstage about their plans with Kylie Jenner, Chalamet’s presumed girlfriend, as well as their French proficiency (the Little Women actor is bilingual). Miles Mitchell, a look-alike dressed as Willy Wonka, eventually took first place.

Timothée Chalamet was in good company during a visit with fans this weekend, where he was more than likely asked to call them by his name.

On Sunday, the Oscar nominee made a surprise appearance at New York City’s Madison Square Park, where hundreds of fans gathered to compete in a Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest.

In videos shared to social media, several doppelgängers posed for photos in the sea of people before the Dune star joined them, resulting in some genuinely shocked faces. A frenzy broke out as he hugged his admirers and posed with them.

Incidentally, Chalamet didn’t win the contest, arriving with a mustache and a shorter head of hair — after portraying Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

The contest took place after flyers popped up around the city with a Qr link to the event’s Partiful page and the offer of a $50 cash prize.

Exclusive: Josh Safdie’s A24 ping pong prodigy feature Marty Supreme has added The King of Comedy actress and comedienne Sandra Bernhard.

Bernhard will be playing a neighbor and friend of Fran Drescher in a cameo role. Bernard joins a cast that also includes Timothée Chalamet in the title role, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, The Creator; Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary a.k.a Mr. Wonderful and Abel Ferrara. The original screenplay was written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.

It's a live-action feature adaptation of the popular 2015 video game of the same name, and it's slated to come out in spring 2025. David F. Sandberg directed the Until Dawn movie from a screenplay written by Gary Dauberman. Blair Butler wrote the film's previous draft. Sandberg is best known for directing the hit supernatural horror film Lights Out. He's also known for helming the horror flick Annabelle: Creation and the superhero films Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Dauberman, on the other hand, previously worked together with Sandberg on Annabelle: Creation. He wrote the screenplay for that film. He also wrote the scripts for the horror movies Annabelle, The Nun and Annabelle Comes Home.

The movie based on the popular horror game Until Dawn has completed principal photography. Director David F. Sandberg shared a post on social media after wrapping up main filming for the movie. Sandberg is known for directing scary movies like Annabelle: Creation.

The Until Dawn movie is being made by Sony Pictures. It has been in development since 2015, when the interactive game first came out. In the game, a group of young people get trapped in a remote mountain lodge. They have to try escaping while being hunted by a mysterious killer. Players could make choices that impacted what happened in the story. This gave fans control over how gory their experience became.

Sandberg’s post on Instagram showed a clapperboard stained with fake blood. The director’s reflection in a mirror covered in fake gore could also be seen. This suggests the film will have the same frightening tone as the game.

Exclusive: Black Bear’s management arm has signed writer, director, actor, and producer Jordan Firstman, whose credits include Sundance 2023 black comedy Rotting in the Sun.

Firstman first rose to prominence by sharing short skits, impressions, and impersonations on Instagram Live during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is also known for writing for Alia Shawkat’s Search Party and he was a consulting producer on Netflix’s animated series Big Mouth. As a filmmaker, Firstman directed the narrative short Men Don’t Whisper, which was shortlisted for the Grand Jury Prize at both Sundance and SXSW in 2018. He has also written for Comedy Central’s The Other Two and directed multiple episodes of the Peabody-nominated Sundance TV series This Close.

On the acting side, Firstman joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 via Ms. Marvel on Disney+. He also recently appeared in FX’s Dave and the Netflix comedy You People with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy.

The Safdie Brothers are not afraid of using unusual actors in their casts. And for Josh Safdie, that is still the case, as we learn more of the names being added to the cast of his upcoming film, “Marty Supreme.”

Rachel Sennott’s untitled comedy has been picked up to series at HBO, Variety has learned.

The show was ordered to pilot at the premium cabler back in March. Sennott created and stars in the series and also serves as an executive producer. Emma Barrie, Aida Rodgers, and Lorene Scafaria also executive produce, with Scafaria having directed the pilot.

“Rachel is as hilarious as she is charming,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO and Max comedy programming. “With Lorene and Emma, she has captured the comedy and the beauty that happens when friendships collide with our best laid plans. HBO has given a series order to a new untitled comedy from Rachel Sennott.

The project, which stars and is written and executive produced by the “Shiva Baby” actress, follows a codependent friend group that reunites, navigating how the time apart, ambition, and new relationships have changed them.

In addition to Sennott, the show’s cast includes Odessa A’zion, Jordan Firstman, Miles Robbins and True Whitaker (“Godfather of Harlem”).

The half-hour pilot, which received an order from the network back in March, is executive produced by Sennott, Emma Barrie (“Barry”), Aida Rodgers (“Barry”), and Lorene Scafaria (“Succession”), who directed.

The project, about a codependent friend group that reunites, navigating how the time apart, ambition, and new relationships have changed them, originated as a pilot, which Sennott executive produced with Emma Barrie (HBO’s Barry), Aida Rodgers (HBO’s Barry), and Lorene Scafaria (HBO’s Succession), who directed it.

It’s been around six months since we learned that Sony is developing a film version of Until Dawn, the 2015 ‘cabin in the woods’-style horror game that impressed players with its branching narrative paths and cinematic visuals. Screen Gems is co-producing with PlayStation Productions and Shazam! helmer David F Sandberg is on board to direct. Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind such horror mainstays as It, Annabelle and The Nun has written the script and Screen Gems has described it as an ‘R-rated love letter to the horror genre, focusing on an ensemble cast.’

Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli and Peter Stormare have joined the cast of Until Dawn, Sony’s Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions’ feature adaptation of the hit horror video game.

Mitchell, Cameli and Stormare join Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion on the call sheet for the production, which begins shooting in mid-August.

David F. Sandberg, who last directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is returning to the horror genre with the project and is reuniting with his Annabelle: Creation writer-producer Gary Dauberman on it.

Dauberman, who has a first-look deal with the studio, wrote the most recent draft of the script and is producing under his Coin Operated banner with Mia Maniscalco, alongside Sandberg and his Mångata partner Lotta Losten. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are also producing.

Peter Stormare has joined the cast of Sony's Until Dawn film adaptation, THR reports, and thank Christ for that. We've been watching David F. Sandberg's adaptation of the 2015 horror game hit develop with some mild curiosity for the last year and change, for a couple of different reasons.

As she makes her directorial debut, Jennifer Esposito recently reflected on how her early career was impacted by a “Harvey Weinstein-esque” producer.

The Fresh Kills writer and director recalled the “really painful time” in her life, when the producer had her fired “for no reason” and went on to lie about her on-set behavior, telling others not to work with her.

“He literally had the power and used it to completely end a young girl’s career at 26 years old,” said Esposito on the She Pivots podcast. “This was a notorious, brutal producer, a Harvey Weinstein-esque type person.”

She recalled, “So, he fired me for no reason. He wanted someone else, and he got her. But then, anybody that called and was like, ‘Hey, I want to hire her,’ he’s like, ‘Don’t hire her.’ He said I was a drug addict, locked myself in a trailer — never happened.

Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions have revealed four key cast members for the upcoming film adaptation of the popular horror game Until Dawn. According to Deadline, the actors cast are Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion, Ella Rubin, and Ji-young Yoo.

The film version will be directed by Lights Out director David F. Sandberg. Annabelle Comes Home writer Gary Dauberman wrote the latest version of the script, with Blair Butler (Hell Fest) working on a previous draft.

Michael Cimino is best known for starring in Hulu's Love, Simon spinoff series Love, Victor, in addition to appearing in Never Have I Ever and Annabelle Comes Home. A'zion is probably best known for starring in the Netflix drama Grand Army, though she's no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in Hellraiser (2022). She also has the indie horror movie Hell House in development.

Robbins appeared in multiple episodes of the award-winning Amazon series “Mozart in the Jungle.” Whitaker appeared alongside her father, Academy Award winner Forrest Whitaker, in “Godfather of Harlem.”
