The first time chef Roy Choi visited the Los Angeles Public Library's 9,000-item vintage menu collection, he felt like Christopher Reeve's character in the 1980 movie Somewhere in Time, a playwright who travels back decades. "I started to feel the history, but not from an intellectual standpoint — from a visceral one," writes Choi. That visit led to a collaboration with USC professor Josh Kun on "To Live and Dine in L.A.," a Central

With its warm climes, diverse mix of cultures, and a healthy population eager to discover the next trend, Los Angeles has become one of the country's most important food destinations. No one knows that better than Pulitzer Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold, and he's at the center of a new documentary, "City Of Gold," premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Laura Gabbert, the film delves into the diverse ethnic neighborhoods of Los Angeles, as Gold seeks out his next food find. Featuring celebrity chefs Roy Choi, David Chang and Ludo Lefebvre, as well as visits with the owners of some of Gold's most treasured establishments, "City Of Gold" is a feast for foodies —as far as Gold is concerned, It doesn't matter where the food is served as long as it's good. In this exclusive clip, he checks out the Guerrilla Tacos food truck, and it'll definitely leave you hungry.

Oreo has released a web series that takes the sandwich cookie on gustatory adventures. In a series of Snack Hacks, renowned chefs teach viewers how to use Oreos for unusual culinary mash-ups. Snack Hacks features a few neat recipes that go far beyond the classic Oreo/milk combo. Eight short, silent videos give viewers the basic instructions for treats like Oreo freeze pops, Oreo popcorn, and Oreo tacos. Three more recent installments let profession chefs in on the fun: Nguyen Tran serves up an Oreo pudding, Michael Voltaggio concocts an Oreo-based shandy, and in my personally favorite, Roy Choi uses Golden Oreos as the breading for chicken cutlets. Snack Hacks does well to connect the Oreo to its fans on social media. The entire series is inspired by a single viral image, in which a resourceful eater showed how to use a fork to prevent your fingers from becoming littered with Oreo dust.

Lately, Jon Favreau has been known for his big screen spectacles, but for his latest "Chef"—a return to his more indie-oriented roots of "Swingers"—the only special effect may be what's inside the secret sauce. Yep, Favreau is diving into the world of food trucks and the first trailer for his film is here. Premiering last month at the SXSW Film Festival, the movie brings together a starry ensemble—Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Emjay Anthony, Robert Downey Jr. and famed chef Roy Choi—for the tale of a down-on-his luck chef who finds new inspiration with this kitchen on wheels and travels across the country with his son, with both his career and professional life in the balance. Does it work? Our man in Austin didn't quite think so, though perhaps it'll be interesting enough to see Favreau back working in a minor key.
