Persona managed to give me a shock before I even started watching it. Its IMDb entry lists it as running two hours and twenty-one minutes, which seemed a bit excessive for the film’s plot. Thankfully, when I put it on, the actual running time was a more reasonable hour and forty-two minutes, and even that was a bit longer than needed.
A woman wakes up with no memory of who or where she is. Where is a filthy house, one that looks like it’s been used as a squat for the homeless. Actually, it’s serving a much more sinister purpose, its doors locked and windows boarded up, it’s serving as a prison for her.
On the TV, the news is reporting another woman is missing, abducted from a nearby mall. Could...

Mike Ho’s “Persona” (2024) is a kidnapping drama sans any color and texture. A woman wakes up in an unknown house. She has no recollection of the circumstances that transpired and has brought her there. She fumbles around for clues and markers that can give her a certainty or inkling of the stuff that has gone down here. Groping in the dark, she stumbles across another bruised woman, Samantha. It is only after some effort the woman recalls her name being Tricia.
What’s definite, however, is the reality of the house where the two are caged. The exits are all sealed up. But the ominousness of the captor lingers in the air. At any point, he may be back. There’s no real threat though the endangering man makes his appearance brashly. The film is essentially circling two women who are bracing themselves for the inevitable return of the kidnapper.

World of Barbie — the ultimate archive of all things pink, pretty, and plastic — became Karol G’s own dreamland when she visited the museum-like location to shoot the video for her reggaetón celebration “Watati” from the Barbie soundtrack.
The Mike Ho-directed visual writes Karol G into the official Barbie trailer, finding her among the other dolls that Margot Robbie’s titular character waves at in the clip. When Barbie knocks someone out in the real world, the singer is right there getting her mugshot taken beside Barbie and Ken.

Usher’s got it bad for Las Vegas.
The Grammy-winning star, who is currently performing in Sin City for Usher: My Way The Vegas Residency, says he’s moved to Vegas for music — and also for his family.
“I began to curate my own little world here, so much so that I’ve actually put a flag in the ground. I’ve actually moved here,” he told THR. “For one year I’ve been here. I’m not saying that this is the end-all-be-all, but I have a place here so I can accommodate my family.”
The residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM has earned rave reviews, and he returns to the stage Friday. And this week he announced 15 new dates for June and October, with tickets going on sale Saturday.

Daddy Yankee knows what it takes for a Latin song to break the charts. And when Myke Towers showed him his new song “Ulala,” which dropped on Thanksgiving, Yankee understood its “global hit” potential.
While working with the same producers on their albums, Towers — who was featured on Legendaddy‘s “Pasatiempo” — decided to show the reggaetón legend his tropical-tinged pop song to see what he would think.
“[My producers] Play-n-Skillz were working on Daddy Yankee’s album at the same time as they were working on mine, so in one of these back-and-forth phone tags,...

Farruko has been honest about embracing religion following the wild success of his 2021 hit, “Pepas.” “Me, being number one, having the best cars, having it all, I couldn’t see my children,” he said at a concert in Miami this February, according to Billboard. “I destroyed my first family. I hurt a woman who loved me just the way I was.”
Since then, he’s continued to focus on religion, putting his beliefs front and center at concerts and performances. Not everyone has embraced the transformation; at the Miami concert...

Megan Thee Stallion has hopped on a remix of Lil Baby’s “On Me,” his standalone single that was originally released last December.
The new version of the track dropped on Tuesday alongside a music video featuring the two rap artists, directed by Mike Ho. The clip starts off with Lil Baby’s verse in front of an icy fortress, with Megan appearing alongside him to lip-sync. During her verse, Megan goes back-and-forth between the tundra setting and a roaring volcano, rapping with equal parts ice and fire: “I know bitches gotta be losing money,...

Karol G and Nicki Minaj fans were united in shock Thursday night, after the two dropped a surprise new single, “Tusa.”
The title comes from a Colombian slang term for the heartache one experiences after a breakup. Still, Nicki and Karol don’t sweat it — in both English and Spanish, they promote the benefits of partying away the pain. “Se cansó de ser buena/Ahora es ella quien los usa,” sings Karol G. “She got tired of being good/Now it is she who uses them.”

Nicki Minaj frolics in a jungle setting complete with a green Lamborghini, cozies up to a paramour in intimate locales and get a twerk party started in her new video for her upbeat, island rhythms-vibed single “Megatron.” The song is her first solo music since she released her fourth studio album, Queen, last year.
In the Mike Ho-directed clip, the rapper seductively moves from scene to scene. Whether surrounded by a dancing crowd or hanging with her man, the Queen is the center of attention, as well she should be.
