One of the first films to arrive on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox was the excellent horror mockumentary When the Screaming Starts, about a journalist who tracks a newly formed murder cult founded by a bumbling wannabe serial killer.

Now, a year later, Collider highlighted the film, noting that it’s among 10 of the highest-rated horror movies of the past decade, according to Rotten Tomatoes!

As of this writing, When the Screaming Starts sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive audience score of 81%.

Exclusive: Cinedigm and Screambox have acquired all North American rights to the U.K. horror mockumentary When the Screaming Starts, following a documentary-maker as he attempts to make a film about a wannabe serial killer.

The acquisition follows the picture’s award-winning tour of horror festivals worldwide, which kicked off with the U.K.’s FrightFest last year and included U.S. dates at Popcorn Frights, Panic Fest, and Telluride Horror Show.

The film was also named Best Sci-fi/Horror Feature at the 2022 London Independent Film Festival.

Written by Ed Hartland (who also stars) and Conor Boru, who also directs his first feature film here, When The Screaming Starts is a comedy-horror in which Norman Graysmith (Jared Rogers), perhaps an homage to Louis Theroux, a documentary film-maker who has made a career documenting the lives of people living on the fringes of society, is invited into the home of an aspiring serial killer, Aiden. Norman thinks this is going to be the documentary that catapults his career into orbit.

The movie doesn’t dilly-dally before revealing it’s tongue-in-cheek satyr and dry British sarcasm, with the introduction of Aiden Mendle (Hartland), the aspiring killer in question. One moment Aiden is friendly and matter-of-fact with his desire to be a successful serial killer, and then he’s staring bullet creepily in doorways.
