As I have mentioned many times recently, action films with a female vigilante as the protagonist is one of the biggest latest trends in Asian cinema and it was Indonesia’s turn to come up with an entry in the category (although one could also consider “Golden Cane Warrior” an entry), in a film that stands apart due to its comic book aesthetics, since the characters are based on Skylar Comics. Carnaby inks North America deal on Indonesian superhero film 'Valentine' (exclusive)
Fantasy action feature stars Estelle Linden and Matthew Settle.

Fantasy action feature Valentine has scored a North America deal for UK sales outfit Carnaby International.

Shout! Studios has picked up the title, which is from Indonesian production company Skylar Pictures.

The film, which is in Indonesian and English, stars Estelle Linden and Matthew Settle in the story of an unassuming waitress who embarks on an adrenaline-fuelled adventure and transforms herself into a heroine for her local city.

It was directed by Ubay Fox and Agus Pesto. Helfi Kardit produced.

Carnaby International Adds Three Genre Titles to Cannes Slate
Carnaby International has added three new genre titles to its slate ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, the company announced Tuesday. The new titles include survival dramas “The Boat” (pictured) and “Summit Fever,” as well as Indonesian superhero title “Valentine.” The U.K.-based independent production and international sales company will introduce all three titles to buyers in Cannes.

“The Boat” sees Joe Azzopardi star as a lone fisherman who boards an abandoned sailboat he discovers in the mist, only for his own boat to disappear while he is aboard the abandoned craft. It is produced and written by the actor alongside his father, Winston Azzopardi, who also directs. The completed film will screen to buyers in Cannes.
