Image
After a two-year run on Amazon Freevee/Prime Video in the U.S. and the UK, among other territories, “Neighbours” will conclude its run in December, it was announced on Thursday.

According to a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the show is “resting” with all remaining new episodes from the show’s current 40th anniversary season continuing to air on Prime Video around the world and Australia’s Network Ten four times a week until the end of the year.

The show promises it will continue providing all the “big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love” at its conclusion.

Soap Alum and Selling Sunset Star Chrishell Stause Made Her First Neighbours Appearance
Image
Over the summer, Days of Our Lives alum Chrishell Stause flew to Melbourne to report for work on the Aussie soap Neighbours. Stause recently made her big debut on the Amazon Freevee reboot. And it’s no surprise that the character she’s playing is out for revenge. We explain what you need to know about her Neighbours stint.

A Big Ramsay Street Welcome to Yas

Before Stause became famous for staging open houses and racking up commissions while Selling Sunset, she starred in All My Children, Days, and The Young and the Restless. A soap veteran, she’s now lending her talents to Neighbours. This reboot follows the lives of residents who populate the quaint Ramsay Street neighborhood in the fictional town of Erinsborough.

The actress and reality TV star has a history of playing characters who cause trouble, and this time is no different. Yasmine “Yas” Shields has infiltrated Erinsborough,...

Amazon Prime Video with Ads Is Here! So, What’s the Point of Freevee Now?
Image
Happy Amazon with Ads Day!

It’s January 29, 2024, which can only mean one thing: commercials have finally come to Amazon Prime Video. Whether you realize it yet or not, unless you’ve manually opted out (to the tune of an additional $2.99 per month), you are in on Prime Video with ads. And that’s just the way Amazon likes it. Prime Video customers probably won’t like it as much; at the very least, many of them are about to be confused.

Amazon already has an ad-supported streaming-video service, Freevee. And Freevee, unlike say Pluto TV to Paramount+, is within the Prime Video ecosystem.

Freevee “has always been an odd duck,” Tvrev co-founder and lead analyst Alan Wolk told IndieWire. “I suspect that most people who watch Freevee are not even aware they are watching it.”

The former IMDb TV is a combination on-demand and Fast platform. Given its integration with Prime Video,...

Lucinda Armstrong Hall & Lucinda Cowden on what fans can expect from Neighours ‘Flashback Week’
Lucinda Armstrong Hall
As Neighbours returned, thanks to Amazon Freevee bringing the residents of Ramsay Street back to our screens, of course given the break in production between the old and new chapters, there remains a two year period that us unaccounted for. Thankfully though, with ‘Flashback Week’, fans of the much-loved Australian soap opera can be filled in on the gaps, and discover all that went down in this break.

To mark flashback week, which is currently underway on Freevee, we had the pleasure of speaking to two of the main players, chatting to both Lucinda Armstrong Hall (Holly) and Lucinda Cowden (Mel) as they update, and tease us, as to where their characters are, and what audiences can expect… Needless to say, there’s much here for fans of Neighbours to digest.

‘Shayda’ Review: An Iranian-Australian Filmmaker’s Affecting Drama of Maternal Strength
Image
Within the unassuming exterior of a suburban house, the central setting in Shayda, a handful of women are working to reclaim their lives. The title character is one of them, determined to leave an abusive marriage with her young daughter and not return to their native Iran. Unfolding in 1995 Australia, Noora Niasari’s debut feature is drawn from her experiences as a child in such a shelter and is at its core a tribute to the writer-director’s mother. Fueling the drama is the quiet ferocity of Zar Amir Ebrahimi’s performance and her tender chemistry with Selina Zahednia as 6-year-old Mona.

Early scenes are thick with shadows, a sense of danger lurking. Four years earlier, Shayda moved to Australia with Hossein (Osamah Sami) and their toddler daughter so that he could attend medical school. A student too, she has stopped wearing the hijab and embraced the relative freedoms of a Western woman,...

Tiff Review: ‘Porcupine Lake’ is a Canadian Coming-of-Age Tale Lacking Psychology
Teenage Bea (Charlotte Salisbury) is in desperate need of an escape from her mundane, isolated life. We can assume Toronto’s big city living isn’t yet something she’s embraced due to her tendency for fainting spells whenever anxiety grows. Mom (Delphine Roussel’s Ally) therefore keeps a tight leash, protecting her daughter as best she can while unfortunately assuring the isolation permeates her very soul. Dad (Christopher Bolton) hopes a change of scenery will do both some good, the Northern Ontario diner he inherited a few months back providing the opportunity. As a summer spot it can expose Bea to plenty of fun if able to initiate making friends. And as a means to reunite their family, it might also help mend the marital turmoil that’s obviously affecting them all.

This is the setting of Ingrid Veninger latest coming-of-age drama Porcupine Lake, its focus on this young...

Mayhem 2014: ‘Predestination’ Review
Stars: Ethan Hawke, Noah Taylor, Sarah Snook, Elise Jansen, Christopher Kirby, Madeleine West, Cate Wolfe, Jim Knobeloch, Freya Stafford, Lucinda Armstrong Hall, Rob Jenkins, Christopher Stollery | Written by Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig | Directed by The Spierig Brothers

Back in 2003, the Spierig Brothers directed a low budget farmhouse zombie horror called Undead. It was an entertaining and imaginative debut, and everyone looked forward to their next offering. It turned out we had to wait a while. In 2009, they released Daybreakers. Another imaginative genre offering, with an entertaining cast and some neat ideas. What would their next movie be?

After another long wait, we arrive in 2014 with Predestination.

Shown as the opening film for day four of the festival, Predestination is a difficult film to talk about without totally ruining it. So I’ll give you this much: after a tense opening sequence which introduces us to the film’s antagonist the...
