Francisco Lacerda is an American-Portuguese filmmaker that has developed a sub-genre/movement of fantastic cinema in Portugal called "Azoresploitation", that sprung from his short films: Dentes e Garras! (2014), Dentes e Garras 2 (2016), Freelancer (2017).
In 2019 he directed the short film Karaoke Night which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival and over 50 international film festivals. Francisco continues to expand on this sub-genre with video art installations like Misericórdia (2021) or faux trailers of lost Azorean Sci-fi films like in A Última Galáxia (2020). His most recent work is a take on the "euro-western" sub-genre titled Cemitério Vermelho (2022), which was screened at IndieLisboa Film Festival, Fantasia and Beyond Fest.
