Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap is returning to the children’s film genre with his latest production, “Little Thomas.”
The comedy-drama, which is the feature directing debut of Kaushal Oza, is slated for its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (Iffm).
Starring Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Duggal, alongside child actor Hridansh Parekh, “Little Thomas” marks Kashyap’s first foray into children’s cinema since his 2007 animated directorial venture “Return of Hanuman.”
Set in 1990s Goa, the film follows a seven-year-old boy’s attempts to reunite his quarreling parents in hopes of getting a baby brother. Kashyap, known for hard-hitting films like “Gangs of Wasseypur” and “Ugly,” was drawn to Oza’s vision of creating a genuine children’s film from a kid’s perspective.
“It’s a difficult genre actually, to make an authentic children’s film,” Kashyap said. “So one has to ensure that it’s a good script before making it.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, known for his portrayals of intense and gray characters, said that his upcoming film ‘Little Thomas’ served as a detox for him and also provided a unique opportunity to reconnect with his inner child.
“’Little Thomas’ offered me a refreshing detour from the intense and grey characters I’ve portrayed in my recent projects. It was a cinematic journey that allowed me to step into the shoes of a never-seen-before character in Little Thomas” shared Gulshan.
The actor added that after delving into the complexities of characters in ‘Guns and Gulaabs’ and ‘Durangaa,’ ‘Little Thomas’ became a “cinematic palette cleanser.”
“It was a chance to explore the lighter side of storytelling, to embrace the innocence and simplicity that often accompany childhood narratives. As an actor, it’s crucial to navigate various genres and characters, and ‘Little Thomas’ provided the perfect opportunity to stretch those creative muscles,” said the actor.

Indian actor Rasika Dugal is on a roll, with season 2 of Emmy-winning Netflix series “Delhi Crime” streaming, season 3 of Amazon Prime Video series “Mirzapur” filming and several other series and films in the works.
Dugal describes season 2 of “Delhi Crime” as “very different from season 1, but still very sensitively and beautifully told,” adding that the series is minutely detailed.
While the first season revolved around an horrific 2012 rape case, which caught the attention of the world, the second season follows multiple murders, which are similarly done, and the police investigates.
“It is really about the vulnerability of senior citizens and also the very stark class divide, which is very apparent in a city like Delhi. Somehow, visually in Delhi, it’s much more around than anywhere else. And the season really talks about that very sensitively and carefully and also throws light on the way we treat marginalized communities,” Dugal told Variety.
