My mother just has this capacity for children.

[on her parents, who adopted her when she was 3 and had cared for her since shortly after her birth] Because there are so many decades of difference between us, I became more interested in what their childhood was like. I fantasized about what it was like to be young in the '30s and '50s, more so than other kids my age.

I felt like if I didn't leave St. Louis, I'd just always be working at a grocery store and smoking cigarettes and not doing anything with my life. I feared the depression of St. Louis, because it is in a deep depression.

I've been really into this French singer Fishbach. I've been listening to her song Y crois-tu, this synth-pop song. I don't even know how I found her. I think someone had taken a photo of her and she was smoking a cigarette while laying down on stage with a microphone and her hair was dangling off the stage and I was like "who the fuck does this bitch think she is?" I've been obsessed with her lately and that song and hoping to see her live in Europe when I'm there.
