Tanner Ryan Anderson was born in Long Beach, California, but at the age
of two his parents, Gilman and Lynn, moved their family to Minneapolis
where he completed his primary and secondary education. Tanner's sister
Briana is three years his senior and resides in Austin, Texas with her
husband Steve and their two crazy dogs.
Through his school years Tanner was an accomplished multi-sport athlete, and achieved all-conference honors in basketball as a high school junior and senior at Holy Family Catholic. During these latter two years he served as team captain, set several school records, and finished runner-up for the Conference Player of the Year. He moved on to play four years of college basketball at Hamline University, serving as team captain his final two years, and being awarded the Sportsmanship award for his conference as a junior. He graduated with bachelor's degrees in Business Communications and Theatre Arts.
In addition to playing sports and applying himself to his schooling during adolescence, Tanner was fascinated with sports announcing, and often role-played as an ESPN reporter. While a junior in college he decided that after graduation he'd pursue a career in acting, so he enrolled in several acting classes outside of his university studies, including: The Acting Academy with Charters Anderson, The Guthrie Theatre, and two months of study abroad at the Swinburne University Advanced Film and Television Study in Melbourne, Australia.
At this point he was "hooked" on acting. Post college graduation, he applied to, and was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) in Hollywood. He made it through the two years of their rigorous program and was selected to the third year theatre company.
Since graduating from the AADA, Tanner has logged time in several commercials, independent films, and television shows.. For the past year he trained at The Actor's Workshop to hone his on camera craft and has since continued to focus on improving his skills through a variety of workshops and self-study, recently graduating to the third level of the Upright Citizens Brigade and training with Eric Nenninger at the Lesly Kahn Studio.
