From the very first moments of “Severance,” Mark’s (Adam Scott) missing wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) has haunted the Apple TV+ original series. But it wasn’t until after Season 1 that the show discovered how devastating Gemma’s loss truly was.

“That was something I felt very grateful to Ben [Stiller] and Dan [Erickson] about. They really let us have a say in shaping some of that backstory,” Jen Tullock, who plays Mark’s sister Devon, told TheWrap.

Before filming on Season 2 started, Tullock had a lunch with Erickson where she pitched the idea that the four of them — Mark, Gemma, Devon and her husband Ricken (Michael Chernus) — used to be an incredibly tight-knit group. “Where did you go?”

The first time we hear that question, it’s the start of Episode 7, and Gemma (Dichen Lachman) is somewhere deep within Lumon headquarters having her blood drawn. Watching the small vials with green lids fill up one by one, Gemma’s mind drifts back to when she first met Mark (Adam Scott) at a blood drive held in the campus library. Back then, they were just fellow teachers making the most of some downtime during a shared good deed, unaware their polite yet potent flirtation over a research paper titled “All Quiet on the Western Blunt” would alter the rest of their lives.

That’s the way love goes, though. It tends to arrive as if from nowhere and then, suddenly, it’s like it’s always been a part of you.

After he dropped to the ground last week, there was certainly some concern about how Mark (Adam Scott) would survive. Luckily, “Chikhai Bardo” — the seventh episode of season 2 — places us directly in his mind. Using kaleidoscopic editing and visuals, Gemma (Dichen Lachman) occupies the center of the episode and ties to larger questions in Severance. Doing so provides us with a pivotal backstory to their relationship. It also reveals a devilish figure lurking in the background of Severance.

I have a confession: I think "Severance" has some problems. Before you get out your torches and pitchforks, let me make it clear that I do really like the show. The 2025 PaleyFest lineup for Los Angeles has been revealed, and the nine-day event will feature a special tribute to Emmy-winning showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino that reunites the casts of Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, along with her upcoming Étoile.

In addition, PaleyFest L.A. will celebrate the final seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) and Cobra Kai (Netflix/Sony), plus Severance (Apple TV+), Agatha All Along (Disney+/Marvel), Matlock (CBS), Hacks (Max), and Poker Face (Peacock). The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood from March 21 to March 29.

The event, which launched in 1984, features screenings, Q&As, and meet-and-greets. The organization supports the Paley Center’s education initiatives as well as the preservation of the Paley Archive, featuring more than 160,000 historically significant television and radio programs.

Yep, Tim Cook has officially been onboarded onto Severance. The Apple CEO filmed a video getting into character as an outtie (who becomes an innie) to promote the second season of the hit Apple TV+ series, which released its second episode of season two on Friday.

In the footage, Cook is called the “core of the apple” when he’s greeted by an excited Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman) in the show’s Lumon Industries-set offices.

Director/executive producer Ben Stiller shared the video on X, writing, “Was helping this new guy find his office this morning…” Cook then shared Stiller’s post with the nod: “Ready to clock in for episode 2!”

It’s not clear whether “Severance” — Apple TV+’s mind-bending workplace thriller whose Season 2 budget reportedly topped $200 million — will deliver payback for the tech company. But Apple boss Tim Cook is doing his part to drive tune-in for Team Lumon.

Cook stars in a “Severance”-themed promo video released Friday by Apple. In the spot, Cook is reporting for work at the mysterious Lumon Industries as a “severed” employee, having undergone a surgical procedure to divide his identity between work and personal life.

Cook’s grim-faced Outie enters the Lumon elevator; as he descends to the building’s severed floor, he breaks into a smile as his Innie persona takes over. After walking through Lumon’s maze-like hallways, the CEO is greeted by Mr. Milchick, the somewhat menacing Lumon supervisor played by Tramell Tillman.

Mr. Milchick really stepped in it this time. In the wake of The Macrodat Uprising, the severed floor’s newly appointed manager (played by Tramell Tillman) may have cleared every sizable hurdle the Lumon higher-ups set for him — retaining Mark S. (Adam Scott), firing the rest of Macrodata Refinement team, replacing them in a mere 48 hours, firing the replacements (Mark W. is going to sue!), and rehiring the original team — but in Episode 2, “Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig,” he has to throw out bigger bait than a pineapple basket to get the desired results. And he doesn’t even understand what kind of bait he’s offering.

Near the end of the episode, when Mr. Milchick visits Mark at home in the hopes of convincing him to keep working at Lumon, the company delegate is armed with offers. He tosses out...

Well, we knew that whatever happened in the Outie world after the overtime contingency, it probably wasn't exactly as it was presented to the Innies. But Severance season 2 episode 2 reveals the aftermath and impacts the Outies really faced, and it's brilliantly executed and also mind blowing in a way that's seriously upped the ante for the series moving forward.

In all honestly, I shamefully took everything Milchick told the Innies in the Severance season 2 premiere when they returned to Lumon at face value. They experienced fame in the public eye for their rebellion? Sure, sounds plausible! Five months have passed in the Outie world? Yeah, that makes sense! The three others opted not to join Mark? Again, that tracks!

But season 2 episode 2 flips the script and shows the inverse of the first episode. While we spent the entirety...

The season 2 premiere of Severance took place entirely within the basement of Lumon, where we watched Mark and the other innies run around without any idea what was happening in the outside world. In Episode 2, "Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig," we flip the script and discover what the outies were doing.

As predicted, pretty much everything Mr. Milchick told Mark in the season premiere was a big fat lie. The outies for Dylan and Irving didn't refuse to come back; Milchick fired them. The innies didn't get famous after their jailbreak, and Lumon hasn't adopted any new policies in response to public backlash; all the bullshit reforms the innies heard about last week were done to placate those four specifically. In the real world, Lumon is trying to sweep everything under the rug. Recording a message for the public, Helly's outie lies and says that everything she did at Lumon's black tie...

Before getting into the episode, it's important to note that season 1 was released back in 2022. Due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, work on the show was delayed, and we're only now getting season 2. I've had an issue with this era of streaming shows where projects debut to massive success and then disappear for a couple of years or more before returning. This can lead to interest waning, especially for shows just starting. Luckily, Severance allows us to adjust to its in-universe changes.

The Lumon offices have moved to New York City. Leading stars of Apple TV’s Severance appeared for a bit of performance art in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station this week.

Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Patricia Arquette and Tramell Tillman all appeared as their Severance characters for the event on Tuesday, with producer-director Ben Stiller on hand to take pictures. The pop-up featured a real-life cubicle from the iconic office space of Apple’s show, which returns with season two on Friday.

During the initial pop-up on Tuesday, the actors entered the cubicle, cleaned the office’s carpets, chatted with each other and worked at the desk computers. Stiller posted several images from the scene to his social media, writing, “Grand Central right now.” Per Apple, several of the set pieces and wardrobe were original pieces from the show’s filming.

Severance Season 2 will delve deeper into corporate culture and the concept of a work-life balance.

The sophomore season of Dan Erickson’s thriller series, which centers around a surgical procedure that separates the work self from the off-hours self, has taken a long while to complete with the dual strikes in Hollywood.

Season 2 of Severance will contain 10 episodes. This is one more than Season 1’s count of nine.

New episodes will roll out weekly on Fridays after the first one premieres. Each episode will become available to stream Thursday nights at midnight, or Friday early early morning, depending on how you look at it.

The wait is almost over for Season 2 of Apple TV+’s Severance, created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller.
