"This year we need a drink that wins it all!" How about just a nice espresso? An official trailer has debuted for an indie comedy called Coffee Wars, just a movie about baristas battling it out at a coffee competition. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals, as far as we know, and it will be out to watch in March on VOD. Coffee aficionado Jo is doing her best to keep her plant-based, independent, coffee shop afloat alongside her band of misfit employees. In a last-ditch effort to save her business, Jo and her team embark to battle it out as the underdogs competing in the World Barista Championship in order to finally have a chance to prove herself in the dairy-dominated world of coffee. The film stars Kate Nash as Jo, Toby Sebastian, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Owain Arthur, Maria Conchita Alonso, Jordan Stephens, Maya Savin Miller, Jenny Rainsford, and Freddie Fox.

This post contains spoilers for all of Fleabag Season Two, now available on Amazon Prime Video.
When the first season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag debuted back in 2016, it seemed to fit into a long tradition of TV shows where characters break the fourth wall and address the audience directly. This has been going on since the medium’s early days in sitcoms like The Jack Benny Program, and has continued over the decades in series as wildly different from one another as Saved By the Bell and House of Cards.

The searing first season of “Fleabag” felt like a complete story in and of itself. As adapted from Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s one-woman show, the series expanded on the world of a woman wild with lust and grief with such expert ease that by the time it ended, even Waller-Bridge herself was sure that it was the last we’d see of her. Instead, she dug deeper and found something new to say about Fleabag, her acute self-loathing, and the startling way she could grow up beyond eating avocado toast and hoping for the best.
The resulting second season, which dropped May 17 on Amazon, is a meticulous triumph as gorgeous as it is wrenching. It gives Fleabag, her sister Claire (Sian Clifford), and father (Bill Paterson) moments of maturation a long time in the making. It sparingly uses caustic side characters like their condescending godmother (Olivia Colman) and Claire’s alcoholic...

“I want to fuck a priest,” the title character of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s seriocomic gem Fleabag confesses early in the second season. For most shows, this would be utterly scandalous. For Fleabag — the ribald, scathingly funny, achingly heartfelt story of a grief-stricken young woman battling her most self-destructive impulses — it feels exactly right.
Fleabag’s reluctant flirtation with a handsome clergyman (Sherlock’s Andrew Scott) is meant not to shock but to illustrate the depths of her loneliness, while also having fun with how mortifying she finds this attraction. Between...

“Fleabag” reestablishes itself as one of television’s elite series well before an insightful therapist (played by the all-powerful Fiona Shaw) asks Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s eponymous Bag, Flea if she wants to “fuck God.” But I dare anyone to imagine a more idyllic setup, let alone produce a story that can actually live up to it. That’s what the “Killing Eve” scribe and future Bond writer has done in the brilliant follow-up and savvy update to her 2016 breakout. Think about it: an emotional paradox in which the lead protagonist of a TV show wants to… fuck… God? And does she? Does she literally want to sleep with Him? Is she angry with Him? Is it both?
So many questions arise from the existential proposition, and Waller-Bridge manages to answer each one with the playful flick of her eyebrows or a fervent, frustrated frown. “Fleabag” evolves gracefully in Season 2, mowing...

It's not often a show is too honest about its characters, so Fleabag may be the exception.
Fleabag, the Phoebe Waller-Bridge series based on her play, released in 2016 on BBC (and later on Amazon Prime Video), is an all-encompassing look at a woman with difficulty moving on from an important part of her life.
It's a hard look at Fleabag's life, one that does not make it easy on her or the people in her life. The show is brutally honest with itself, reflecting on poor choices and impulses in a way that does not treat them as bad but rather as difficulties and obstacles everyone faces.
The show manages to find deep comedy through that exploration.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant Fleabag Season 2 premieres on Amazon this week. Here’s a rundown of season one.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
“I have a horrible feeling that I’m a greedy, selfish, apathetic, depraved, morally bankrupt woman who can’t even call herself a feminist”
We meet Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) mid-shag with Arsehole Guy (Ben Aldridge), so named for his delight in anal sex (and presumably because he’s also an arrogant arsehole). Through asides to camera and flashback, she recounts her recent break-up with live-in boyfriend Harry (Hugh Skinner), a recurring event in which he moves out of their flat but comes back when she calls. He left this time due to her Barack Obama-related masturbation. She gives herself 48 hours tops before Harry returns.

Kristin Scott Thomas and Fiona Shaw will make guest appearances in the upcoming second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s BBC and Amazon comedy “Fleabag.” Series creator and star Waller-Bridge said: “They literally begged me to be in it. Begged me. Begged. One of them was crying.”
“Phoebe Waller-Bridge cannot be ignored,” said Scott Thomas (“The English Patient”). “She manages to hit core issues with sledgehammer brutality as she trips along with a spring in her step. I laughed helplessly as I binge-watched the first brilliantly funny series and enjoyed being aghast at times.”
The guest role reunites Shaw (“Harry Potter”) with Waller-Bridge after they worked together on BBC America’s “Killing Eve.” Shaw said: “Phoebe’s mind is like nothing else.”

However, when the new servant Abigail, played by Emma Stone, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Also starring Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, Mark Gatiss, Jenny Rainsford, and James Smith. I saw this in Venice and loved it, writing a glowing review about how the film is "hilarious and delightful." One of the best absurd comedies of the year. And...

"I am the Queen!" "But you are mad." Fox Searchlight has debuted a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated new film from iconic Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos. His new film is titled The Favourite, a vintage comedy of errors and wackiness. Set in early 18th century England, the film's plot involves the frail Queen Anne, played by Olivia Colman, occupying the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah, played by Rachel Weisz (from The Lobster), governing the country in her stead. However, when the new servant Abigail, played by Emma Stone, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, Mark Gatiss, Jenny Rainsford, and James Smith. This looks like crazy fun and another totally wacky film from Lanthimos, who loves to mess with the audience as much as he messed with his characters. There's some great laughs in this trailer. Here's the first teaser...

Before it became a six-episode UK comedy series, Fleabag was a play, and you can still see that theatrical DNA in the series, which debuts on Amazon tomorrow. The unnamed title character, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (who wrote both the play and the series), frequently looks away from the action to tell us how she feels about it, and the story — a mix of romantic travails, family tension, and a bit of concern about the fate of the guinea pig-themed cafe Fleabag owns — is so very small that it's easy to imagine it being confined to a stage. Waller-Bridge and director Harry Bradbeer have opened it up so that a good bit of the story takes place outdoors or in big spaces, including an episode where Fleabag and her sister Claire (Sian Clifford) attend a women's retreat at a country estate very much resembling Downton Abbey. But the most cinematic...

Fleabag has a familiar premise.
Sexually liberated, free-drinking, recklessly uninhibited 30-something Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) tries to make sense of her disorganized life in the heart of London, through the support of her successful, uptight sister Claire (Sian Clifford), her widowed father (Bill Paterson) and her perpetually on-and-off again boyfriend Harry (Hugh Skinner). Her small business —a guinea pig-themed cafe — is failing, her funds are deflated, her wicked artist stepmother (Olivia Colman) endlessly pesters her, she’s haunted by the memory of her deceased best friend Boo (Jenny Rainsford) and, under such high-stress circumstances, her sexual appetite is hungrier than ever.
There’s a good chance you’ve seen something like Fleabag before. But the BBC 3 original — picked up by Amazon for its American debut, much like the shipping site did with Channel 4’s Catastrophe — is nevertheless welcomed. Not for its originality,...
