This year is all about Richard Curtis’ career firsts. The rom-com titan has now made his music-video directorial debut ahead of the premiere of his first animated film, “That Christmas.”
Curtis directs Ed Sheeran and “Bridgerton” actress Claudia Jessie in the “Under The Tree” video. The original song is featured in “That Christmas.”
The video stars Sheeran, who previously acted in rom-com “Yesterday,” as a lovelorn soul missing an ex, played by Jessie. Sheeran and Curtis have been trying to collaborate for years, with Sheeran saying in a press statement that he got an early cut of “That Christmas” to make “Under The Tree.”
“Richard Curtis made my fav Christmas film, and TV special. He came round my house in 2021 and showed me a rough of his new one, then asked me to make a song for it. How could I resist,” Sheeran said. “Having kids, I struggle to find...

Melancholy Christmas songs are the best Christmas songs and Ed Sheeran sure seems to know it. His new holiday ballad, “Under the Tree,” longs for the one thing that St. Nick can’t bring him: the lover he has lost.
Sheeran wrote “Under the Tree” with Johnny McDaid for the upcoming animated film That Christmas, premiering on Netflix next month. The video for the song, released today, intersperses live-action Sheeran and his costar Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton) with animation from the movie. The pair play a couple no longer together, despite...

Netflix has submitted a total of 32 TV programs for awards consideration at the upcoming Golden Globes, and 20 for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Gold Derby has learned exclusively.
Some of the streamer’s notable TV titles include Season 2 of “Squid Game,” the survival thriller starring Emmy and SAG winner Lee Jung-jae; popular new comedy “Nobody Wants This,” about an agnostic woman (Kristen Bell) and an unconventional rabbi (Adam Brody); and “Baby Reindeer,” the buzzy limited series that recently set the Emmys on fire, going home with six trophies. See the full list of submissions below, broken down by show.
Note that the Golden Globes have lead actor and lead actress categories that are separated by TV genres (drama/comedy/limited), but that the supporting actor and supporting actress races encapsulate all genres. As of last year, the organization also now offers an award for the best stand-up comedy special on television.

Yerin Ha, soon to be seen in Dune: Prophecy, has joined the cast of Bridgerton season four as Sophie Baek aka the Lady in Silver. Ha will be a series regular in the upcoming season, playing a maid who catches Benedict’s eye.
Netflix offers this description of Ha’s character: “Sophie Baek has been forced to spend much of her life working as a maid for the most demanding employer in the ton. Bridgerton season four has cast its Sophie Beckett — or, in this case, Sophie Baek.
Netflix announced on Wednesday that Yerin Ha (Halo, Dune: Prophecy) would be portraying Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) love interest in the upcoming season of the hit series, which will focus on the second-eldest brother’s love story.
In the Julia Quinn novels, Sophie’s last name is Beckett, but for the television adaptation, showrunner Jess Brownell worked with star Ha to come up with a Korean surname for the character out of respect for Ha’s culture. (She is Korean and from Australia.)
“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” Ha told Netflix’s Tudum. “To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess.”

Updated: It’s official. Netflix has confirmed Yerin Ha will join the Season 4 cast of Bridgerton as the love interest for Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson). As was previously reported (see below), Ha will portray Sophie Baek, a name change from Sophie Beckett in the book series, to reflect Ha’s Korean heritage. Sophie has a slow burn romance with Benedict in Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer From a Gentleman, on which Season 4 will be based.
This is not the first time Bridgerton has changed the name of a character from the books. In Season 2, Kate Sheffield’s surname was changed to Sharma to reflect the character’s Indian heritage.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers from the Bridgerton books.] Bridgerton‘s fourth season has its next lead! Netflix announced Luke Thompson‘s Benedict will step up as the leading sibling in the upcoming chapter, which leaves us wondering, who will be next after him? Although Bridgerton isn’t technically renewed for Season 5 quite yet, the show’s continued success makes it a likely candidate for renewal. Now that we know Benedict will be the focus of Season 4, this leaves two main contenders for Season 5’s lead: the Bridgerton sisters, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca (Hannah Dodd). Netflix While previous seasons would have led us to believe that Eloise would be the obvious next candidate, the expansion of Francesca’s story onscreen in Season 3 has made that case less certain. As fans will recall, Season 3 shook things up by presenting Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton) love story before Benedict’s story, shifting the order of Julia Quinn...

After Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) story was skipped in Bridgerton Season 3 in favor of Penelope (Nicola Coughlin) and Colin (Luke Newton), aka Polin, there has been speculation as to whether or not his love story would be at the center of season 4, or if Eloise (Claudia Jessie) would be next. “Bridgerton” Season 3 accomplished in eight episodes the kind of drama that some shows take multiple seasons to bring to fruition. Between Colin and Penelope’s whirlwind courtship and marriage, Cressida Cowper’s downfall, and the major Lady Whistledown reveal, Season 3 managed to cover a lot.
It comes as no surprise that fans are already clamoring for the fourth season of the hit Netflix series. As more and more details are revealed, Season 4 is shaping up to become a fan-favorite.
Here is everything we know about “Bridgerton” Season 4 so far.

Dearest gentle reader, it’s official — Bridgerton‘s fourth season will focus on Benedict, played by Luke Thompson.
The news was confirmed on Tudum and via Netflix’s X account on Tuesday. “It has been brought to this author’s attention that perhaps it is time to unmask the newest suitor of the marriage mart … Benedict Bridgerton’s story is coming next season.”
The show will turn its attention to the second-eldest Bridgerton brother, who is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver (or — spoiler alert! — as book fans will know her, Sophie) at his mother’s masquerade ball.
The Regency-era drama has just smashed records as one of the streaming service’s most watched shows, with Luke Newton’s Colin and Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope passing the baton to Thompson.

Update 7/23: It’s official. On July 23, Netflix announced that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) will be the Season 4 lead of “Bridgerton.” “Benedict Bridgerton has been unmasked as next season’s newest suitor,” Netflix wrote on X. “Please scream to celebrate our boy.”
Benedict Hive, our time has come.
The final moments of Season 3 of Netflix’s smash romantic drama seemed to confirm what many fans have long hoped: Benedict Bridgerton, the erstwhile artist and new sexual explorer, will get his main character moment next season.
The reveal took place while Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Benedict — two siblings whose charged chemistry is really getting quite noticeable, yes? — had a quick goodbye before Eloise departs for Scotland. Eloise noted she’ll see him again next year, because her mother would never let her miss “her masquerade ball.”

It’s official: Season 4 of Netflix’s “Bridgerton” will focus on the love story of perpetual bachelor Benedict Bridgerton.
Benedict, who is portrayed by Luke Thompson, has taken a backseat in recent seasons but will now be the next Bridgerton sibling to find their soulmate. The season will follow the events of Julia Quinn’s third “Bridgerton” novel, “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which sees Benedict searching for a “lady in silver” he meets at a masquerade ball who turns out to be a low-born woman named Sophie Beckett.
In the “Bridgerton” Season 4 logline that accompanied the announcement, Netflix confirmed that Benedict’s love interest is still that woman. “The fourth season of ‘Bridgerton’ turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (Luke Thompson),” it reads. “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver...

Fans just about lost their minds when the final moments of Season 3 of Netflix’s “Bridgerton” showed that in Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) forthcoming season, her future husband Michael will instead be Michaela (Masali Baduza), allowing Francesca to better explore her “outsider” (i.e. queer) identity following her current husband John’s (Victor Alli) death.
While much of the online fan backlash to the Michael/Michaela swap is the same frustrating feedback that often happens when showrunners elect to put a more diverse group of characters onscreen (and should therefore be ignored), some people have simply expressed disappointed that a popular romance tale that thoughtfully wrestled with infertility may lose that well-done subplot in the new TV adaptation. But that doesn’t need to be the case.

The parties must be exquisite. The writer must be unmasked. The Queen will ensure it.
Bridgerton Season 3’s slow start left me unsure what to expect from the four-part finale. Even so, the plot’s hesitance wasn’t contagious for this author – I completed the new episodes the night of their release and was met with a series of callbacks to Julia Quinn’s fourth Bridgerton novel, a more refined set of side plots and some new twists that book loyalists may not expect.
The engagement of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) introduces new branches of romance and drama. Penelope, aware that she must reveal herself as Lady Whistledown to her soon-to-be-husband, grapples with the worry that Colin will not love her once he truly knows her. Her anxiety is perpetuated by Colin’s sister Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who knows her secret and threatens to reveal...

In the final moments of “Bridgerton” Season 3, Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) is set to depart for Scotland with new husband John (Victor Alli) after enjoying a quiet romance during the “Polin” season. Francesca was reintroduced to the Bridgerton clan this past season, and a big plot point was how different she is from her siblings — much more reserved and shy. It makes sense then that the character would relish a quiet estate in the country, rather than continue in the hustle and bustle of London.
Just before Francesca and John are set to depart to their new home, however, John introduces Francesca and Eloise (Claudia Jessie) to his cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza), whom viewers see Francesca has an instant spark with.

At the end of Season 3 of Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” Eloise (Claudia Jessie) looks to be set for a great adventure. Eloise’s sister Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and her new husband John (Victor Alli) are to depart for the relative peace and quiet of Scotland, and Eloise — restless after the marriage of her best friend Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) to Eloise’s brother Colin (Luke Newton) — asks to go with them, ready for a major change of pace and location.
It’s a refreshing set up for the future, and while textual hints suggest Season 4 will be at least partially centered on Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) story, fans of course will expect to see more of Eloise. Let’s hope it’s a new adventure in Scotland the show writers entirely make up, because I’m here...

The social season is upon us once more, this time with a long-awaited love story at its center. Netflix released Bridgerton Season 3, Part 1 on May 16. Still, before diving into the newly released Part 2, I’m unpacking the promises of the first four episodes, which welcomed back Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton as Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton amidst a whirlwind of new styles, suitors, gossip and relationships.
Season 3 promises to cash in on the mounting tension and intrigue of Penelope and Colin’s complicated relationship foreshadowed since the early stages of the series. Penelope, a frequently overlooked wallflower leading a secret life as high society’s most relished gossip columnist, has shaped the show’s atmosphere as her pen persona, Lady Whistledown. This season, can she make a splash in society as herself and finally secure a match that will bring her as much happiness as the love stories she reads by her window?...

Last weekend had something for everyone with a stacked roster of streaming shows and a blockbuster family film in theaters. According to IMDb data, Prime Video’s “The Boys” and Disney/Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’ saw the most traffic of any titles from Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16. “The Boys” returned for their highly anticipated fourth season with three new episodes that dropped on Thursday, June 13. Meanwhile at the box office, ‘Inside Out 2’ became the first film since last year’s ‘Barbie’ to score a weekend debut over $100 million. The most popular names on the site told a slightly different story, but looking at the top 10 titles and names during that time period provided a glimpse of what to expect in the coming weeks.
Top 10 Titles
1. The Boys
2. Inside Out 2
3. Bridgerton
4. House of the Dragon
5. The Acolyte
6. Hit Man
7. Presumed Innocent
8. Space Cadet
9. Bad Boys: Ride or Die
10. Inside Out
Top 10 Names
1. Nicola Coughlan
2. Glen Powell
3. Adria Arjona
4. Claudia Jessie
5. Laz Alonso
6. Andrew McCarthy
7. Valorie Curry
8. Erin Moriarty
9. Antony Starr
10. Luke Newton
The top titles list was split evenly between shows and movies, with returning series “The Boys” and “Bridgerton” leading the way. But “House of the Dragon” was right there with them, a notable achievement considering the list only captured traffic from a single day (the Season 2 premiere date on Sunday). Interesting outliers included the upcoming Prime Video movie ‘Space Cadet,’ which dropped its first trailer last week, and the first ‘Inside Out’ movie made it onto the list, riding the wave of interest in the sequel.
The top names on IMDb were mostly consistent with the top titles, but with some interesting twists. “Bridgerton” and “The Boys” cast members represented 7 of the top 10 names, as expected. But interest in ‘Hit Man’ stars Glen Powell and Adria Arjona was still high, and only Nicola Coughlan of “Bridgerton” was more popular on the site than the ‘Hit Man’ leads. Finally, the appearance of Andrew McCarthy may seem like a glitch if you haven’t heard of his new documentary ‘Brats,’ which premiered on Hulu on June 13. In it, the actor reconnects with members of the Brat Pack, the cohort of young actors who starred in many iconic teen movies of the 1980s.
Looking ahead to the coming weeks, without the release of any tentpole titles in theaters, popular shows will likely dominate the list. “Game Of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon” will certainly send some of its cast members into the top 10. Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke are shoo-ins, but it’s possible we’ll see Eve Best (Princess Rhaenys), Ewan Mitchell (Prince Aemond), or Matt Smith (Daemon) make the list. In the first week of the new season, “The Boys” stars Laz Alonso and Valorie Curry were the top names from the show, ranking above the more established stars. It’s likely there will be some movement in the top names list as the season plays out.

Bridgerton is unarguably raging as one of the most popular romance shows as of now, enchanting viewers with the incredible love story full of twists and turns and sudden realizations of Penelope and Colin.
And while these two continue to steal hearts, one other character has been acing her game at leaving an indelible mark as well: Eloise Bridgerton.

With her extraordinarily unique personality, Claudia Jessie’s Eloise didn’t take long to take over fans’ hearts and minds with ease.
But while that’s that, there have also been quite a few popular theories about the romance arc she could take, which includes her becoming queer, just like her siblings.
However, that hardly seems to be the case, considering showrunner Jess Brownell’s words for her.

Dearest gentle readers, Bridgerton season three (part two) has come to a satisfying end.
After spending a big chunk of the second half of the new season (which dropped its final four episodes Thursday on Netflix) on the outs following Colin’s (Luke Newton) much-anticipated discovery that Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) is in fact Lady Whistledown, the final moments of the finale revealed that the couple has remained happily married and gave birth to their first child — a son, who will be the heir to the Featherington estate. Not to mention, Colin has published his first novel, thanks to help from his wife, the prolific writer.
Part two kicked off right after Colin proposed to Penelope following their steamy carriage scene, and, to start the new episodes, they announced to the Bridgertons that they are betrothed. The couple spent almost the entirety of the first two episodes in utter bliss,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for Season 3 Part 2 of Bridgerton.
Another season of Netflix’s and Shondaland’s Bridgerton has come and gone with two touching weddings, Lady Whistledown revealing herself to the public, some festive balls and a hint of what’s to come for Season 4.

It’s Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan’s turn now, and the reception is no different. The season three stars graced the red carpet for the U.K. premiere of the final four episodes Wednesday night. According to Netflix’s internal rankings, the first half of season three racked up 45.05 million views (total hours watched divided by running time) worldwide — about 165.2 million hours of viewing time.

At the start of Bridgerton Season 3, Part 2, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finds herself unexpectedly at the top of the world. After years of pining, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) has finally proposed, leaving her (and fans) breathless. But there’s a dark cloud hanging over Polin’s love story — Penelope’s long-held Lady Whistledown alter ego. To make matters worse, Penelope’s ex-best friend Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) is one of the few people who knows her secret. Eloise is also Colin’s sister. It’s time for Penelope to grow if she wants to attain the life she’s always wanted.
“Penelope learns to speak up for herself and learns the importance of being honest, which is something that got her in trouble last season,” showrunner Jess Brownell explains.
And Penelope does. By the end of the Season 3 finale, many of Bridgerton’s heroes have found happiness — chief among them Penelope.

Just like the aristocratic ton, Bridgertonloves tradition. Season 3 follows in the steps of what came before. The premiere opens with a third Bridgerton sister preparing to make her debut. In Season 1, it was romantic Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor); in Season 2, it was anxious Eloise (Claudia Jessie), and now, in Season 3, it’s “pragmatic” Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). Francesca is new to society, and Dodd is new to viewers. This is the actor’s first season on the show, stepping into a role that was recast for Bridgerton Season 3.
“Francesca has been preparing for [her debut] … Filming it was absolutely terrifying, because it was quite early on in production,” Dodd tells Tudum. “There was a little bit of life imitating art there. She was nervous and I was nervous. She was watching people, and I was watching people to learn. We were kind of going through it together.”...
