Damian Lewis (“Billions”), Tom Felton (the “Harry Potter” franchise) and Ben Radcliffe (“Masters of the Air”) have joined the cast of Brit period comedy “Fackham Hall” alongside the previously announced Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston and Emma Laird.

From director Jim O’Hanlon and created by comedian Jimmy Carr (who will play a supporting role), the film is set to begin principal photography this week in the U.K.

Geralt of Rivia has finished the next leg of his journey, and Netflix's monster-hunting fantasy show The Witcher has wrapped filming on its fourth season. This news comes courtesy of reliable Witcher scoop site Redanian Intelligence, who noticed that cast member Freya Allan (Ciri) posted a farewell message to Ciri's new thief accomplices, The Rats, on Instagram. "Mistle, Iskra, Giselher, Reef, Kayleigh, Asse. I love you all. Thank you for the most special season of [The Witcher]," the actor wrote, along with artwork she made for each of the characters.

The Rats are the band of teenage thieves Ciri met at the end of season 3. Disney dropped the official trailer for “An Almost Christmas Story,” the animated Yuletide short from director David Lowery (“Mother Mary”) and producer Alfonso Cuarón (“Disclaimer”), premiering November 15 on Disney+. The short is inspired by the true events of a tiny owl rescued from New York City’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in 2020.

The trailer reveals Moon, a curious young owl who unexpectedly finds himself stuck in a tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza. Moon befriends a lost girl named Luna in his attempts to escape the bustling city (including flying chases and dashing through the subway). Together, they embody the spirit of the holiday season and form an unlikely bond as they journey back home to their parents. (A screening and Q&a with Lowery and Cuarón will take place October 20 at the seventh annual Animation Is Film Festival at the Tcl Chinese Theatres in Hollywood).

As Redanian Intelligence explains, this is almost certainly an adaptation of a scene from the books which sees The Rats ambush a baron's carriage in Nilfgaard. It appears Ciri cuts the throat of the baron's daughter, suggesting she's heading down a darker route in these episodes.

However, this is likely in response to the fact the woman's father is among those who hire Leo Bonhart to hunt Ciri down.

Major Series Adaptation Renewals at Netflix, Prime Video

Late last week, Prime Video announced a Season 2 renewal for its recent hit adaptation of "Fallout," starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins. Based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, "Fallout" is set 200 years after the apocalypse, when "the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind...and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them."

The first season of "Fallout" premiered exclusively on Prime Video on April 10, and within its first few days post-launch, the series became one of the streamer's top three most-watched titles.

Geralt of Rivia’s story has an end date on Netflix.

On Thursday, the streaming service renewed The Witcher for Season 5, but revealed that it would be the last season.

The shocking announcement comes as production is finally getting underway on The Witcher Season 4 following countless setbacks.

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

Saying goodbye to the hit fantasy drama will be tough, but at least we have two seasons that will help soften the blow.

Masters of the Air is finally here and the fans of The Pacific and Band of Brothers are going crazy over the masterfully created World War II series. Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the Apple TV+ series revolves around the pilots of bomber planes in the 100th Bomb Group as they fight with everything they have to protect the world from Nazis. Based on a novel by Donald L. Miller titled Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, the series is adapted for television by John Shiban and John Orloff, it feels like the third entry in the World War II shows by Spielberg and Hanks. Masters of the Air is genuinely one of the best series I have seen in many years, check out my review of the complete series here.

The co-stars stepped out for the UK premiere of Masters Of The Air on Monday (January 22) held at Picturehouse Central in London, England.

Here’s a synopsis of the series: Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed.

Most short films are relatively low budget affairs and, accordingly, exercise caution about the challenges they take on, but that’s not the only way to make them. “It felt so present and current,” declares writer and director Iain Softley about the “The Shepherd,” his short film adaptation of Fredrick Forsythe‘s beloved novella. Currently streaming on Disney +, the film was recently shortlisted for Best Live Action Short at the 96th Academy Awards. In an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch above), Softley discusses his process of adapting the beloved novella for the screen.

“The Shepherd” tells the story of a young Royal Air Force pilot (Ben Radcliffe) heading home for the Christmas holiday. While flying over the North Sea, the pilot’s plane experiences a total electrical failure. All seems lost until a nearby pilot (John Travolta) guides the plane to a deserted airbase. The novella that the film is based on is extremely popular around the world, so popular that Travolta himself had once purchased the rights to the novella in the hopes of making it into a film.

So, telling myself that since The Academy considers forty minutes to be feature length I finally used the Disney+ subscription my wife got us and checked it out.

The 69-year-old actor opened up about a near-death experience at a special screening of his new Disney+ film, The Shepherd, in London, England.

“I knew what it felt like to absolutely think you’re going to die,” he recalled, via Variety.

Back in 1992, when he was 38, John Travolta was flying a corporate jet with his family on board when he experienced “a total electrical failure” during the flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Rockland, Maine on Thanksgiving Day.

“I had two good jet engines, but I had no instruments, no electric, nothing. And I thought it was over,” he said, until a “miracle” occurred.

“And then as if by a miracle, we descended as per the rules to lower altitude. I saw the Washington D.C. monument and identified that Washington National Airport was next to it and I made a landing just like [Freddie] does in the film,...

The new original live-action short "The Shepherd", written and directed by Iain Softley, stars Ben Radcliffe, Steven Mackintosh and John Travolta, sreaming December 1, 2023 on Disney+:

"All I wanted was to come home to spend Christmas with you." Disney has unveiled an official trailer for a short film called The Shepherd, based on the book about a Raf pilot's miraculous flight. This project is co-produced by none other than fellow filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, who's enthusiastic about adapting this story. On Christmas Eve in 1957, a fighter pilot on his way home from a distant mission gets lost mid-flight over water and needs a miracle to land safely. It will, of course, be streaming this December just in time for the holidays. Cuarón explains: "I was a long-time admirer of this story and, being old friends with Iain, he was the perfect match to bring this beloved narrative to life on film for the first time." Disney+ has released the first trailer for the upcoming short film “The Shepherd,” premiering on Dec. 1.

The story follows Ben Radcliffe as Freddie Hooke, a young Royal Air Force pilot flying home across the North Sea on Christmas Eve. He finds himself in peril when his radio and electricity cut out, leaving him stranded and running on limited fuel. John Travolta, who also executive produced the short, plays a mysterious, good Samaritan rescue pilot who appears at just the right moment.

Steven Mackintosh, Millie Kent, Simon Wilson, Iwan Bond, Claire Price, Simon Lennon, Jack Donoghue, Asan N’Jie, Olatunji Ayofe and Scarlet Grace also star.

That's all well and good, but it turns out Ciri (Freya Allan) actually ended up somewhere unexpected. After portalling to the desert and lizard-bashing her way out of there with the help of some creepy ghosts (or hallucinations), she ended up kidnapped by bounty hunters.

David Oyelowo is EPing a limited series in development with the BBC about Biafra with Fremantle and Richard Johns’ newly-launched Argo Films.

Biafra is set in the UK and Nigeria, with the story unfolding across two main timelines: the present day, and the 1967-70 Biafra War – which remains a largely forgotten secret in the shared histories of both countries. Seen through the eyes of a young Black British woman, the series will combine character-led personal story with themes of family, identity and belonging at its heart.

BAFTA-nominated Selma star Oyelowo, who has Nigerian heritage, described Biafra as “one of my most treasured projects,” satisfying his desire to “see African stories told at the highest level.”

British producer Richard Johns has launched a new label, Argo Films.

Johns is best known for the 2000 Academy Award-nominated indie horror flick Shadow of a Vampire and several other films, is debuting with a slate of projects and The Shepherd, a completed short for Disney+.

The Shepherd, starring John Travolta and Ben Radcliffe, is based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth and followed the story of a pilot flying home solo for Christmas in 1957. Iain Softley wrote and directed, and Alfonso Cuarón and Bill Kenwright are co-producers.

Argo will also house scripted assets and development projects from Corona Pictures and Corona Television, the businesses Johns established with Rupert Jermyn in 2009 that produced teen horror Truth or Dare and Tim Roth-starrer The Liability and whose TV arm received investment from Fremantle. Johns purchased Jermyn’s share of the assets when the latter left the industry in 2019.

“Anatomy of a Scandal” stars Sienna Miller as a wife coming to terms with her husband’s cheating. Yet her elite spouse (Rupert Friend) is subsequently accused of assault, putting his position of power as a Minister in Parliament into a tailspin. Meanwhile, Barrister Kate Woodcroft (Michelle Dockery) has her own motivations for prosecuting the case.

As one character puts it in the trailer, “Privilege does not extend to rape.”

The psychological thriller, which premieres April 15, is based on Sarah Vaughan’s bestselling novel of the same name. “The Undoing” creator David E. Kelley executive produces, along with Melissa James Gibson and director S.J. Clarkson.
