The beloved martial arts franchise just wrote itself an exciting new chapter in the form of Karate Kid: Legends. The movie focuses on Kung Fu prodigy Li Fong, who has to deal with his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprise their roles from the previous movies, while Ben Wang is new to the franchise. With the return of Mr. Han and Daniel Larusso, fans are in for a nostalgic ride.
Of course, when a movie as exciting as Karate Kid: Legends drops, people start wondering just how much these stars are actually making. It is no surprise that Jackie Chan, one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, would have the biggest paycheck.

Stars: Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff | Written by Rob Lieber, Robert Mark Kamen | Directed by Jonathan Entwistle
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, Karate Kid: Legends is the sixth film in the popular Karate Kid franchise. Although technically a stand-alone story, it cleverly combines elements from the original movies, the 2010 remake and the Netflix series Cobra Kai. As such, it’s an entertaining, snappily paced action flick that will appeal to fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.
Ben Wang (Disney’s American Born Chinese) stars as teenager Li Fong, who moves from Beijing to New York when his mother (Ming-Na Wen) gets a new job. In doing so, he leaves behind his kung fu tutor Mr Han (Jackie Chan), though he is still traumatised from the death of his older brother, who was stabbed after winning a martial arts tournament.

“Karate Kid” is kicking its way back to movie theaters this weekend.
The latest installment of the classic franchise, “Karate Kid: Legends,” has made $2.3 million in previews so far at the box office. It’s projected to make $25 million in its opening weekend, with some estimates punching a bit higher at $30 million. With a $45 million production budget, the Sony and Columbia film should crane-kick to a tidy profit.
“Karate Kid: Legends” brings in multiple generations of stars, old and new. Ralph Macchio, who starred as Daniel Larusso in the original 1984 classic and its sequels, returns to the big screen alongside action icon Jackie Chan, who co-starred in 2010’s “The Karate Kid” opposite a young Jaden Smith. “Legends” introduces newcomer Ben Wang, a Chinese teen who moves to New York City and learns karate from Chan’s Mr. Han and Macchio’s Larusso to win the Five Boroughs karate tournament. And with the first official post-holiday “Summer cinema” weekend at the multiplex, here comes the return of another beloved movie franchise. Though it doesn’t boast the longest wait between installments, its storied history is one that the Imf might have a tough time sorting through. It’s hard to believe that the initial was over forty years ago. That flick and its two sequels became cable TV staples in the 1980s. Then, a reboot was attempted with one of the stars in 1994 with a “gender switch” for the title lead. Didn’t work, but that didn’t stop a complete remake/reboot 15 years ago, which was a modest hit. Now, after a popular “spin-off” streaming TV, here’s a “re-do” that combines and unites the original trilogy and that 2010 version. With those mixed characters and legacies, it’s no wonder that this one is labeled Karate Kid: Legends.

While it has much in common structurally with the previous films in the Karate Kid franchise, Karate Kid Legends is cut from the same cloth as Cobra Kai in terms of tone. The sense of humor and self-awareness is intact, and it takes the drama at its core just seriously enough to make its characters’ plights worth investing in. But the fighting gets a major jump in quality thanks to Jackie Chan’s obvious influence, and even as new kung fu kid Li Fong (Ben Wang) goes through most of the same motions as the characters played by Ralph Macchio, Hilary Swank, Jaden Smith, and Xolo Mariduena before him, Legends carves out its own territory alongside the other films in the franchise—at least in its front end.

Karate Kid: Legends' Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed – how does it compare to past movies and Cobra Kai? The first reviews are in for Karate Kid: Legends, the long-awaited sixth theatrical installment in the long-running martial arts franchise. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the movie will be able to live up to the critical heights of the franchise's recently concluded sequel series, Cobra Kai.
With 29 reviews counted at the time of writing, Karate Kid: Legends is currently rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with an approval rating of 55%. After all six seasons of Cobra Kai earned at least an Rt critics' score of 91%, this is a disappointing return to form for the franchise. Of course, it's not entirely surprising considering that the Karate Kid films have struggled to win over critics since the 1984 original, which is the only feature to match the critical reception of Cobra Kai with a 90% approval rating. The Rt critics' scores for the other four films, from best to worst, are 66% (2010's The Karate Kid), 45% (The Karate Kid Part II...

In the pantheon of unnecessary legacy sequels — distant continuations that dig up decades of history to occasionally transcendent but mostly exasperating effect — it’s hard to come up with a film that gains less from its connections to the work it’s tied to than “Karate Kid: Legends.” Partly, there’s a deep sense of redundancy: the iconic ’80s “Karate Kid” martial arts franchise has already been the subject of a six-season sequel series “Cobra Kai” that just concluded a mere three months ago, which had flaws but nonetheless inspired affection for its cheeky reverence to the cheesy charms of the 1984 original film.
But more importantly, “The Karate Kid,” for as much as it reigns supreme as one of the most famous sports/martial arts films of its time, is an exceedingly simple story about a boy, his mentor, the girl he has a crush on, and the bully whose ass he kicks.

It has been a long time since we first saw that iconic crane kick. The Karate Kid franchise started in 1984 as an underdog story about a kid who learns martial arts and deals with bullies. Since then, it has become a part of pop culture, with a number of sequels, a 2010 reboot, and spin-offs like Cobra Kai. Now, Karate Kid: Legends is bringing some familiar faces again, with some new ones as well.
The movie will be the sixth movie of the franchise. It will bring the worlds of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel Larusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han together and will introduce a new generation to the franchise. But who is returning, who is new, and how does it all connect? Let’s break it down one by one.

A new trailer for Karate Kid: Legends has been released. The upcoming sequel sees the franchise unite Jackie Chan's Mr. Han with original franchise protagonist Daniel Larusso, played by a returning Ralph Macchio.
Coming over three months after the first Karate Kid: Legends trailer, the new trailer spends the bulk of its 2-minute and 30-second runtime introducing audiences to the franchise's new Karate Kid, Li Fong, played by American Born Chinese star Ben Wang. Similar to both the original 1984 film and the 2010 remake (which is now canon to the Miyagiverse), Legends follows its protagonist as his life gets uprooted following a move to a new city. As Li struggles to settle into his new life in New York, he enters a karate competition despite only being skilled at kung fu. This leads Chan's Mr. Han, who trained Li in kung fu, to seek out Macchio's Daniel to help him train the next Karate Kid.

R-rated movies aren’t just surviving in the shadow of their PG-13 counterparts; they’re thriving, raking in massive box office numbers and smashing records left and right. Take the last decade’s chart-toppers like Joker with a staggering $1.07 billion or Deadpool 2 at $785.9 million. Deadpool & Wolverine is already leading the charge this decade, earning a jaw-dropping $1.33 billion. Then there’s Oppenheimer, proving that brainy, historical dramas can pull in $976.9 million. Combined, these ten blockbusters have earned a mind-blowing $8.97 billion globally. Yes, you read that right: billion with a capital B.
The Passion of the Christ, Logan, and Detective Chinatown 3
Actors like Ryan Reynolds dominate the list with Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman isn’t far behind, slashing through with Logan and his much-anticipated team-up with Reynolds. Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix Reloaded ($741.8 million) and Jim Caviezel’s The Passion of the Christ ($612 million) remind...

The Karate Kid franchise started as a film series in 1984, but. After several successful films, the universe was brought back to life in 2018 with the series Cobra Kai, which ended after six seasons.
The original series was created by Robert Mark Kamen, but Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg took the universe to the small screen, bringing back several key characters. The new series followed Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as the main characters, reprising their roles as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence. Throughout the series, many actors from the films reprised their roles in main, guest, or recurring roles, but co-creator Jon Hurwitz told ScreenRant which cameo they wished they had in the series finale.

Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueñahas addressed the possibility of his character showing up in the upcoming feature filmKarate Kid: Legends, and it's not looking good. While Maridueña didn't exactly say "no" when he was asked about reprising the character in the movie, the actor is not optimistic about the writers adding Miguel to the movie. But is there a glimmer of hope?
Maridueña, who has played Miguel Diaz in all six seasons of Cobra Kai, was at the Saturn Awards, and he spoke with Screen Rant about his future after Cobra Kai. The Netflix show is set to end in a few days when Season 6 Part 3 premieres on Feb. 13. Maridueña is open to wearing the karate suit again in Karate Kid: Legends, and he's certain that the piece that holds it all together is Ralph Macchio, aka Daniel Larusso:
"Maybe if you catch me at the local theater, maybe you'll get a double showing.

Jaeden Martell, the birthday boy who turns 22 today is literal proof that Hollywood loves a multi-talented underdog. Born in Philadelphia and first stealing the spotlight in a Hot Wheels commercial, he swapped his last name Lieberher for Martell, his mom’s maiden name, a slick rebranding move that screams leading man.
And you probably remember him as Bill Denbrough rallying the Losers’ Club in It or the keyboard-tapping, chaos-causing Jacob Thrombey in Knives Out. But trust us, there’s more to Martell than iconic horror flicks and quirky mystery roles.

Stephen King fans have many exciting adaptations to look forward to in the future, but not all previous movies and shows based on the horror author's works are available. Fans of one of King's most famous works, It, will get a treat on New Year's Day, but it will also come with a twist.
After It: Chapter Two left Netflix earlier this month, Max will add the original 1990 two-part miniseries It starring Tim Curry as Pennywise, and the final battle of the Losers' Club, It: Chapter Two. However, the frustrating part is that the 2017 film, It, will not be a part of the new additions. The film, with Andy Muschietti at the helm, starred Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, and it followed the children's first interaction with the Clown, a story that later continues with the adults in It: Chapter Two.

The sensei are teaming up. On Tuesday, Sony released a trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, which will return the Karate Kid franchise to the big screen and unite two strands of the franchise for the first time. In the film, Ralph Macchio’s karate master Daniel Larusso, from the ‘80s Karate Kid movies and “Cobra Kai,” and Jackie Chan’s kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, from the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith, work together to train a teenage karate student named Li Fong (Ben Wang).
The trailer finds Mr. Han seeking Daniel’s help in training Li, a New Yorker with a lot of promise but some personal troubles. When they meet, Daniel assumes Han is looking for his late sensei, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), who taught him everything he knows. “I did not come looking for Sensei Miyagi,” Han says. “I came looking for you.”

Two senseis are better than one in the first trailer for Karate Kids: Legends, the feature that unites multiple generations from the franchise.
Ralph Macchio, star of the original trilogy as well as the Netflix revival Cobra Kai, stars alongside Jackie Chan, who played Karate teacher Mr. Han 2010 Karate Kid movie.
Jonathan Entwistle directs Legends, which stars Ben Wang as a young karate student. Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight and Wyatt Oleff also on the call sheet. It has a script from Rob Lieber.
Karate Kid began life as a sleeper 1984 hit that starred Macchio as Daniel Larusso, a down-on-his-luck East Coast transplant to San Fernando Valley. Under the tutelage of Mr. Miaygi (Pat Moreta), he beats the odds to become a champion. Two more features followed, as well as a fourth starring Hilary Swank. Two branches, one tree. The original Karate Kid timeline and the 2010 reboot are seamlessly merged into one cohesive universe in the first trailer for the upcoming sequel, Karate Kid: Legends, which brings back franchise leads Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.
The trailer begins by reintroducing audiences to Chan's Mr. Han — who reminds everyone that the 2010 reboot was about kung fu, not karate — as well as introducing the new franchise protagonist, Li Fong, played by American Born Chinese star Ben Wang. The trailer then cuts to Mr. Han arriving at the property formerly owned by Mr. Miyagi, where he has come looking for Macchio's Daniel Larusso. Together, the two will mentor and train Li in the ways of both kung fu and karate, merging both fighting styles into one that will help the young protagonist win his first karate competition. Check out the official trailer for Karate Kid: Legends below.

Dumbledore probably isn't the first character that action legend Jackie Chan would be compared to by moviegoers. However, the Harry Potter character is exactly who Karate Kid: Legends director Jonathan Entwistle believes Chan channeled while on the set of the forthcoming legacy sequel.
This surprising comparison was revealed after Entertainment Weekly asked Entwistle to describe Chan's presence on the Legends set. "Apart from being a wonderful human being who is very warm, he is the type of actor that does not leave. When his day is done, you would often find him sitting next to me, sitting next to the Dp, telling stories, talking to the actors," Entwistle shared. "Jackie Chan is a movie star, and that is something that you don't see so much anymore. He had the ability to come up with a tiny idea that I'd never thought of — and all of Jackie's tiny ideas are in the movie.

Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Andy Bean star in It Chapter Two as Losers Club members Bev Marsh, Bill Denbrough, Richie Tozier, Mike Hanlon, Ben Hanscom, Eddie Kaspbrak, and Stan Uris, respectively, while Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Martell, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Wyatt Oleff return from It as the younger versions of the characters.

Karate Kid and Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio has stated that the upcoming Karate Kid: Legends will honor the legacy of Pat Morita's iconic Mr. Miyagi. Macchio will return to reprise the role of Daniel Larusso alongside Jack Chan's Mr. Han, and the actor also teased his character's arc for the upcoming Karate Kid movie installment.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Macchio explained staying true to the core of Daniel, which has endured since his introduction in the original Karate Kid through to Cobra Kai, as the character continues to grow and come to terms with the real legacy of his mentor Mr. Miyagi. "Well, I can't go into detail on it at this point, but one of the things of the choices I've made from back in 1983 was always to play the truth of Daniel Larusso, and the honesty, even with all his flaws," he said.
