Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Animation and the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” filmmakers partnered with non-profit Reel Start and animation/visual effects academy Exceptional Minds to debut the animated short “Tree’s Blood.” The premiere took place at Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” writer-producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg attended the screening, as did producer James Weaver and cinematographer Kent Seki. Rose Byrne and Ayo Edebiri, who star together in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” also voice characters in “Tree’s Blood.”

“Tree’s Blood” was produced from a partnership between Reel Start and Exceptional Minds. The initiative allows Reel Start’s students to create shorts with animation services provided by Exceptional Minds.

Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman find themselves embroiled in a heated student-teacher dynamic in the trailer for the upcoming feature Miller’s Girl.

Lionsgate is set to release the film from writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett on Jan. 26 after it debuts at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier that month. Ortega stars as Cairo, a promising writer who navigates her complicated relationship with Jonathan Miller (Freeman) after his assignment leads to tension.

“Why did you write this?” Freeman asks in the drama’s trailer. “This is inappropriate.” This leads Ortega to respond, “‘Write what you know,’ is what you said.”

Later, Freeman laments, “If she can convince them that something happened between us, I would lose my job.”

Exclusive: Jade Halley Bartlett’s Miller’s Girl starring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman will make its world premiere at the 2024 Palm Springs Film Festival before it hits theaters next month.

Lionsgate and Point Grey Pictures are behind the movie, which marks the feature writing and directing debut for Bartlett, who wrote the original play in 2011 and adapted it into a screenplay that landed on the 2016 Black List. Miller’s Girl will premiere at the festival January 11 and land in cinemas beginning Friday, January 26.

Ortega, Freeman and Bartlett are set to attend the Palm Springs screening at the festival, which runs January 4-15. They will be a part of the fest’s Talking Pictures program that features post-screening Q&As with cast and creatives.

The Alice Initiative, backed by a group of anonymous female film executives, has released its annual survey of up-and-coming female directing talent, ready for their first studio feature.

The Alice Initiative’s 2022 List of Emerging Female Directors is voted on every two years by executives and producers and is made up of 10 directors who have directed at least one, non-studio feature and another 10 directors that have yet to direct a feature but have garnered attention for their work on TV or in short films.

Past list honorees have included The Farewell’s Lulu Wang and Portrait of a Lady on Fire‘s Céline Sciamma. Feature film directors from The Alice Initiative’s 2020 list included Laure de Clermont-Tonnere, who helmed Netflix’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, and Where the Crawdads Sing directors Olivia Newman.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, fostering epic crossovers and galactic friendships, the “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is a big Phase Four entry with many special guest stars. The first “Doctor Strange” film came out in 2016, which means a lot has happened in the period between movies, including introductions to Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi and the Eternals.

“Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” complicated things a bit for the MCU, as did Marvel’s very first television series “WandaVision,” whose powerful Wanda Maximoff will return to help Doctor Strange learn more about the multiverse.

The movie which takes place following the events of Disney+/Marvel’s WandaVision, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, fires up summer on May 6.

We hear that the first day presales for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are the best since Spider-Man: No Way Home, but didn’t topple them. The Batman opened to 134M this year, while Spider-Man: No Way Home notched the best domestic opening during the pandemic and the second-best of all-time with 260M.

Marvel has released a second trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is set to come to theaters on May 6. Many new secrets were aired, including a peek at Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch potentially breaking bad, and a brief audio cameo from what sure sounded like Patrick Stewart reviving his role as Professor X from the “X-Men” series.

At long last, after many a release calendar shift courtesy of Disney, the wait for Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is nearly over. As one of the few of the original six still kicking after Avengers: Endgame, Mark Ruffalo is expected to continue his McU career as Bruce Banner/Hulk/Smart Hulk for the foreseeable future. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set to start shooting in May, we’re expecting a flurry of activity surrounding the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming weeks. Obviously, the main focus will be on finding a director after Scott Derrickson exited the project following creative differences with Kevin Feige, but there’s also a whole lot of casting to be done.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel will be getting any last-minute rewrites now that Derrickson is no longer involved, but we know that he’ll retain an executive producer credit, which is more ceremonial than anything else. Last we heard, the script was coming from relative unknown Jade Halley Bartlett, although the eventual replacement director might want to put their own stamp on things.

New - but unofficial - production details raise more questions about the plot of Doctor Strange 2.

In news worth taking with at least a pinch of salt right now, new plot details for Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have appeared online. 

The sequel to 2016's standalone origin story for Stephen Strange, which will see star Benedict Cumberbatch return to the role after two small-but-crucial appearances elsewhere in the McU during Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, has hit a rocky patch over at Marvel Studios in the past few weeks, with director Scott Derrickson departing the project over creative differences. That departure in itself should be noted when reading the following synopsis for Doctor Strange 2, which has popped up over at Production Weekly (via comicbook), a leading source for film and TV production data:
