Les Leverett, Photographer. From 1952 to 1956, Les Leverett worked for Associated Photographers in Nashville, before joining the National Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1960 to establish the company's photography department.
Les served as a photographer for WSM television, WSM radio, the Grand Ole Opry and the Johnny Cash TV show during what many consider the "golden age of country." The long list of renowned musicians that trusted Les to capture their moments both onstage and off number in the hundreds and include Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuff, Eddy Arnold, Tammy Wynette and Chet Atkins along with Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Count Basie, Tony Bennett, President Jimmy Carter, President Richard Nixon, Ray Charles and many, many more. In 1961, Les accompanied Patsy Cline, Minnie Pearl, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Faron Young, Grandpa Jones, Bill Monroe, Jim Reeves, and The Jordanaires (Elvis Presley's backup singers) to New York City for the now-famous Carnegie Hall concert that also included a presentation with the key to the city on the steps of City Hall. Les documented it all.
Les dedicated thirty-two years to his career as staff photographer for the Grand Ole Opry and WSM radio before retiring in 1992. Seventeen years later, in 2009, Les Leverett came out of retirement to serve as the official photographer for the weekly television program. "The Marty Stuart Show".
