Joana Maria Sousa

Joana Maria was born in 1987, in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Ever since a small child, she has always been in touch with the arts, through the paintings and writing of her mother and theatre and music of her older sister. At the age of eighteen, her first year in university, she attended the faculty of architecture where she started to try out cinema interpretation, which led her to small roles as an actress. Unsatisfied with the architecture program, she then transfers to psychology where she stays a couple of years, but always thinking about cinema and her as an actress. She then, realized that what really fascinated her was cinema as a whole, she wanted to learn more about it, in front and behind the cameras. With this, she then initiated the adventure of studying cinema, attending the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, in Lisbon. It was here where she discovered her love in writing, directing and editing. She is ever more in love with her art, Cinema.
