A bloodied Joe Goldberg singing Taylor Swift? Heck, why not? On Wednesday, Penn Badgley shared a video of himself (with his chin covered in fake blood) singing to Swift’s song with Bon Iver, “Exile,” alongside his You castmates, Anna Camp and Charlotte Ritchie, and his podcast partners.
Badgley and the crew tried their best to emulate the harmonies of Swift and Justin Vernon, as they sang the back-and-forth bridge, “All this time/I never learned to read your mind (never learned to read my mind)/I couldn’t turn...

Acclaimed actor Alex Wolff has worked with some of the biggest directors working today, from Ari Aster (Hereditary) to Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer). And after directing his own feature, The Cat and the Moon (2019), Wolff has another project he's helming in the works. It's called If She Burns and features rising stars like Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow). MovieWeb recently caught up with Wolff while he was promoting his new comedy Magic Farm, directed by Amalia Ulman (El Planeta) and also starring the great Chloë Sevigny. Wolff took time to talk about his upcoming project and how it's connected to his latest film release.
"Doing Magic Farm definitely helped me in terms of seeing the way that Amalia — whatever she was married to, in terms of her style of shooting or shots for scenes, and she was also so devoted to capturing the culture," Wolff told MovieWeb. "I learned so much from Amalia's freedom.

If there’s one thing You taught us, it’s that Penn Badgley‘s Joe Goldberg is the king of being his own worst enemy. Like, sure, he could’ve lived a quiet life, read some books, sipped some coffee, maybe gone to therapy. But no. Joe took every possible opportunity to blow up his own life in spectacular, messy fashion. Every. Single. Time.
What’s wild is that so many of Joe’s worst mistakes were avoidable. Seriously, if he had just minded his business (for once!) or taken half a second to rethink before kidnapping someone (again!), he might have dodged the full, chaotic spiral into madness that You turned into four seasons (and counting) of pure disaster. But that’s Joe, he doesn’t just stumble into bad choices, he swan dives into them like it’s an Olympic sport.
So let’s break down Joe Goldberg’s 10 biggest,...

Every season of You needs, well, a You. Wherever he goes, whoever he pretends to be, serial obsessive Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) always finds a new person to zero all the way in on. Season 3 sets us up to think its You would be Joe’s next-door neighbor Natalie Engler (Michaela McManus). But then Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) takes care of that. Season 3’s true You is Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle), Madre Linda’s kindly librarian and a doting single mother. Marienne is a new challenge for Joe.
“We thought of her as, ‘Ok, now we have to construct a character that Joe would fall in love with, that he can’t easily lie to himself about,’ ” showrunner Sera Gamble tells Tudum. “Not that Marienne is perfect. It’s that she’s really honest, and she’s trying really hard to be just a good person and a good mom.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “You,” now streaming on Netflix.
Joe Goldberg is finally in a cage for good, and not the one of his own making. In the series finale of Netflix’s stalker-rom-com-thriller “You,” Joe, Penn Badgley’s charismatic serial killer, gets his long-overdue comeuppance at the hands of his former victims, who join forces to put him behind bars once and for all.
When we pick up with Joe at the beginning of Season 5, he’s happily married to the uber-rich Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie), who’s used her family’s sizable resources to snatch Joe’s son Henry (Frankie DeMaio) from the adopted fathers he was dumped with at the end of Season 3 after Joe flees Northern California, having murdered Henry’s (also murderous) mother, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). Now that Joe has returned to New York City a free man,...

Note: This story contains spoilers from “You” Season 5, Episode 10.
The penultimate episode of “You” Season 5 felt like Joe Goldberg’s final reckoning as he stood trapped in his own cage by the ghosts of his past in Kate, Nadia and Marienne, but, of course, Joe escapes once again.
Joe (Penn Badgley) is dragged out of the fire at Mooney’s by Bronte/Louise (Madeline Brewer), who — knowing she is the only one who can now bring him to justice — accepts his marriage proposal at the end of Episode 9, leaving the pair to be found on a picturesque road trip in Canada by the beginning of the finale.
“It was important for us that Joe thinks that his dream has come true of finding a woman who can love all of him and that they ride off into the proverbial sunset together,” showrunner Michael Foley told TheWrap, adding that while the...

“You” Season 1 introduced us to Joe Goldberg, the ever-swooning, always murdering nightmare boyfriend, who stalked the streets of NYC. In Season 2, we followed him to Los Angeles, where he briefly became Will Bettelheim, before falling for the equally murderous Love Quinn and absconding to their suburban hell in the picturesque (and fictional) town of Madre Linda for Season 3. For the fourth season, Joe once again picked up and started anew, this time overseas.
In Season 4, “You” follows Joe to London, England, where he becomes Jonathan Moore, meets a wholly different niche of the moneyed class and, of course, gets tangled up in a whole lot of lust and murder. From his relationship with Kate to his full-on “Fight Club” era, here’s a complete recap of everything to remember before he heads back home to New York in Season 5.

You season 5 was definitely one of the most highly-anticipated Netflix shows not just of the year, but overall. Knowing it's the final season, there's high expectations. Especially for a series that's as good as this. The fourth season was not our favorite, and I think many of you would agree. Even so, I was excited about season 5 and all the possibilities, especially with the ghosts from Joe's past. Though unfortunately, the series did not deliver on that when it comes to all the people in his past, especially one in particular.
Jenna Ortega should have been in the final season of You
You season 5 really missed the mark for not bringing back Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega who played Ellie Alves back in season 2. Not only is she a likable character who even Joe had a soft spot for, her story was kind of finished but still open-ended enough to bring her back.

Spoiler Alert !!!Major Spoilers For You Season 5
You Season 5 is finally here — and Joe Goldberg? He’s getting exactly what he deserves. Yep, the charming bookworm-turned-serial killer is back, and this time, the reckoning isn’t just coming — it’s personal.
After stalking, seducing, and straight-up slaying his way through New York, LA, Silicon Valley, and London, Netflix is finally delivering what You have been craving: Joe Goldberg’s karma, served cold.
Since Season 1, You has had us side-eyeing every “nice guy” who recommends a book and makes intense eye contact. Joe (played to eerie perfection by Penn Badgley) started out as Mooney’s bookstore manager — smart, soft-spoken, maybe a little too interested in women who like Sylvia Plath. And then… bam. He’s lurking behind bushes, stealing phones, and racking up a body count faster than you can say “Hey, you.”
But now? Tables are turning. And You are not ready.

Review: The Netflix series You has been a consistent hit for the streaming platform after it acquired the series from Lifetime after the network aired the first season in 2018. Based on the novel by Caroline Kepnes, You follows bookstore manager Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), who falls in love with the beautiful Guinivere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), only to be revealed as a serial killer. The twist on conventional romance with a murderous thriller element made for unique storytelling. The subsequent seasons raised the bar on twisted love stories and buckets of blood, with each new chapter getting progressively more complex and bordering on humorous. With the fifth and final season of “You” bringing back many demons of Joe Goldberg’s past, all eyes have been on whether the Penn Badgley-led series could bring back Jenna Ortega as well.
Ortega, who is best known for starring in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” appeared in “You” Season 2 as 15-year-old Ellie Alves, whose older sister, Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) was killed by Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). The end of Season 2 saw Joe giving Ellie money to leave Los Angeles in the wake of her sister’s death, leaving the door open for a potential return.
While several loose ends from Joe’s past show up in “You” Season 5 — including Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) and Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) — Ortega was not among the show’s past cast members who returned for the last season.

The fifth and final season of "You," the Netflix series that lets noted Taylor Swift fan Penn Badgley play a serial killer convinced he's actually some sort of white knight, is finally out ... which means we can finally assess Joe Goldberg's (Badgley) body count. No, I don't mean how many people Joe has dated throughout the series; I'm talking about how many people he's killed.
In case you've forgotten exactly what went down in the show's first four seasons, here's the overview. Joe Goldberg, who presents himself as a hopeless romantic but actually seems to love murder much more than he loves love, had a very difficult childhood; his biological father abused both him and his mother, and ultimately, a young Joe shoots and kills him.

"I want to get to know you... I like that you're different." Tideline has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled Ponyboi, the second feature film from director Esteban Arango following his debut Blast Beat a few years ago. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival last year, and played at the Torino Film Festival (where it won Best Performance) and BFI Flare in London. Unfolding over the course of Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, a young intersex sex worker must run from the mob after a drug deal goes sideways, forcing him to confront his past. The film stars Dylan O’Brien, River Gallo as Ponyboi (who also wrote the screenplay), Murray Bartlett, Victoria Pedretti, and Indya Moor. Joe Goldberg's story is coming to an end with You's upcoming Season 5. The series debuted in 2018 and has become a major hit.
Over the course of four seasons, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has tried to convince the audience and himself that the only thing he's looking for is love and acceptance. There's no one in our modern film landscape like Sydney Sweeney. In a culture where looks tend to dominate your level of success, Sweeney has devoured stereotypes -- because let's face it, she's stunning -- and ultimately has made a name for herself with the quality of her work both on and offscreen. Though she did her first TV and film stints way back in 2009, her career didn't truly start to pick up until nearly a decade later in 2018. Since then, she has completely taken the industry by storm as a performer and, even more recently, as a dedicated producer.
Sweeney doesn't have a ton of noteworthy credits to her name at this point in her career, but there's no denying she's already done some extremely memorable top-notch work, and there's even more in the pipeline with her upcoming turn as boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. From dramas to rom-coms,...

‘You’ Declares Joe the ‘Luckiest Guy in New York’ in Ominous Season 5 Teaser
“You” may be coming to an end, but it’s ending with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) on top. That’s what the first teaser for Season 5 shows: a sneak peek that ends with Joe calling himself the “luckiest guy in New York.”
True to form for this unsettling drama, not much actually happens in this first look. Joe buttons his shirt and helps his latest victim — er, girlfriend — Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) into her dress. But his internal monologue tells a very different story than the mundane machinations of getting ready.
“Love tests us. I’ve been tested more than most. This is the last time,” Joe says via monologue. “I’ve been through it all —unlucky in life and in love until I met you, Kate. You opened doors for me I never could have imagined. We share a life I would have been quick to judge in the past.

At the International Film Festival Rotterdam, actors Victoria Pedretti and Hanna van Vliet shared powerful insights into artistic integrity and systemic change in the entertainment industry.
Pedretti, famous for her roles in Netflix’s supernatural series “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” spoke candidly about her early career challenges. “Two months after graduating, I was thrilled just to be working as an actor,” she revealed, acknowledging her initial uncertainties about future opportunities.
Van Vliet, creator and star of “Anne+”, brought attention to the critical importance of diverse representation in media. “I discovered how art can truly make an impact,” she said, emphasizing how storytelling can provide visibility for marginalized experiences.
Both artists critically examined industry structures while maintaining hope for meaningful transformation. Pedretti explained that creating change requires strategic understanding, noting the need to “know the system in order to challenge it.” Van Vliet demonstrated...

“The Haunting of Hill House” star Victoria Pedretti hyped fellow actor – and co-creator of Netflix’s “Anne+” – Hanna van Vliet at International Film Festival Rotterdam Sunday evening.
“You are a leader,” she told her.
“True. I’m a leader,” responded van Vliet, admitting the change in the industry starts with “diversifying the teams.”
“We made ‘Anne+’ without any money, so we had all this freedom and could cast and hire whoever we wanted. People get better at their jobs and later, they will be the ones in power. We have to start small and grow everyone into ‘the big guy.’ Girl. Person.”
While the system is “corrupt,” you have to “know it in order to infiltrate it,” added Pedretti.

“I remember the first dinner with the cast of ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ and everyone was talking about Harvey Weinstein. I was like: ‘Is this what I’m getting myself into?...

This article contains spoilers for "Presence" and Mike Flanagan's "The Haunting of Hill House."
Breaking through to the other side and witnessing things from a ghostly plane isn't new for the horror genre. Films like "Haunter," "The Others," and "The Sixth Sense," to name a few, have all provided viewers a glimpse into the afterlife. Director Steven Soderbergh's new horror film "Presence" (check out our review here) offers a different kind of supernatural experience, as we view the entire story from a first-person paranormal perspective, featuring a ghost that only reveals itself after a death in the final act.
Early in "Presence," a medium visiting the house explains that the afterlife doesn't follow the same rules of time as ours, and the spirit is unaware of who they are or when they exist. This sets up the twist that the ghost is, in fact, Tyler Payne (Eddy Maday...

Mike Flanagan is one of the modern masters of horror, creating some of the scariest projects in years, but it is Victoria Pedretti's character in The Haunting of Hill House that haunts me the most out of any Flanagan project. Steadily making a name for himself since his directorial debut in 2011 with Absentia, it wasn't until Mike Flanagan struck a deal with Netflix that his career really took off, particularly due to his masterful work, The Haunting of Hill House. Even after Flanagan's six Netflix horror projects, The Haunting of Hill House still remains one of his best.

In a year marked by personal losses as well as national strife, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about time. Strange how hours can feel eternal, days brief and weeks like they are bleeding into each other so that it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
I had all that in mind while compiling my favorite arts and culture picks from this year. Some of these works consider time on a personal level, like when you pick up a book and can’t put it down. Others ask how much time we have as a society considering the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. A handful think of time more linearly — offering reflections on the past so we might better understand the future.
Here are some works, in alphabetical order, that rearranged time for me:
Alvin Ailey
Two recent works offer a portrait...

As one of the most successful genres in fiction, horror has slowly worked its way into television, leading to a long list of brilliant and scary shows, from American Horror Story to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. These series can range from compressed miniseries to long-running shows that lead the audience on a years-long journey with the characters.
