Described as a “musical horror-thriller,” Variety reports today that the upcoming movie Art of a Hit has been acquired by Giant Pictures for 2024 release here in North America.
The film “follows a ’90s rock band frontman grappling with irrelevance. An eccentric producer invites the band to his French chateau to record, where they encounter unexpected challenges.”
“Art of a Hit takes everything we love about the late ‘90s and early 2000s rock scene and jams it into a wildly creepy castle in the most beautiful place on earth: Dordogne, France. It’s funny, scary, messed up and honest — a story about what it’s like to be in a band and the insane fears of trying to make it as an artist. If you love late 90s rock, if you loved being in a band, you will love Art of a Hit,” director Gaelan Draper and co-writer/star Charlie Saxton said.

The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.
Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”
Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”
That exciting tidbit not only highlights that music will be prominent to this rock horror story, but it’s 2003 eschews the conventional ’80s hair metal movement frequently explored in this niche subgenre. I suppose the real question at this point is just how...

Yalitza Aparicio recently reunited with Alfonso Cuarón, who directed her in “Roma,” for a W magazine photo project that featured her standing at various barriers built at the border between Mexico and the United States. The message? “You can make a name for yourself despite the differences,” Aparicio told Variety on Friday at Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood Class of 2019 party in Los Angeles.
“I’ve always thought that we were all immigrants. We’ve all left our original community, in pursuit of our dreams,” Aparicio added. “I don’t think that the way [Trump] is saying that is an appropriate way of conveying, because I don’t think you can really undercut people’s dreams.”
Aparicio, whose acting debut in “Roma” earned her an Oscar nomination, is one of Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood Class of 2019. The roster also includes “Dumplin’” star Danielle Macdonald, “Daily Show” correspondent Jaboukie Young-White, Joey King of “The Kissing Booth,...
