“The Garcias” on HBO Max is not a period drama, but clothing is just as important for the characters in the day-to-day shenanigans of the Garcia family who are enjoying an extended Summer vacation at their fancy beach home in Mexico.
Based on the Nickelodeon series “The Brothers Garcias,” “The Garcias” spinoff is the first English-language sitcom to have an all-Latino cast and creative team. This time around showrunner and creator Jeff Valdez flips the original script, which featured three boys and a girl, by casting three girls and a boy. The series also jumps forward 15 years and the Garcia kids, now all grown up and with children of their own, are surrounded by strong women. “I was raised with five sisters,” Valdez explains. “That was by design.”
Valdez called on costume designer Natalia Collazo to dress the extended family, and that meant creating individual styles for each of the characters – thirteen in total.

HBO is premiering the sequel to Nickelodeon's "The Brothers Garcia" 20 years after it first aired. Only this time, it is called "The Garcias" and focuses more on the family as a whole. If you missed the original, as I did, "The Brothers Garcia" was billed as the first English-language sitcom to have an all-Latinx cast and creative team. It tells the story of the three Garcia brothers, starting in their preteen years and following them as they grow up in Texas with their sister and parents. It's also narrated by John Leguizamo, as one of the brothers looking back as an adult.
The new version features all the original, on-camera cast. The siblings are grown up, with families of their own, and one of their kids narrates this time. The parents, now also grandparents, are back, as is the show's tagline: "Todo para la familia. Everything for the family,...

HBO Max is reviving another classic series for its latest reboot project. "The Brothers Garcia," the hit Latinx sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, is being reimagined as a new series called "The Garcias."
The reboot aims to bolster US Latinx representation to create a "sense of normalcy" and dismantle stereotypes. This time, 81 percent of the cast of "The Garcias" is Latinx, while the other 19 percent are Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (Apia).
"The Brothers Garcia" ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004. Some of the original members of the Garcia family will reunite in the forthcoming reboot. The series, which has been ten years in the making, will make its way to HBO Max on April 14. Jeff Valdez - who co-created...

“Black Bird,” a limited series starring Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser, will premiere on Apple TV Plus this July 8, the streamer announced Thursday.
Based on James Keene and Hillel Levin’s true crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption,” “Black Bird” stars Egerton as Keene, a police officer’s son who is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison for drug dealing. While serving his sentence, he is offered a chance for early parole, on the condition that he move to a prison for the criminally insane and befriend serial killer Larry Hall (Hauser). Keene reluctantly agrees to the unusual case, and develops a complicated relationship with Hall as he attempts to discover the truth behind the murders the convict is suspected of committing. In addition to Egerton and Hauser, the series also stars Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital together with Univision radio stations across 15 media markets raised $4.7 million dollars during this year’s Promesa y Esperanza (Promise and Hope) radio event held on Dec. 5 and 6.
Events as these help inspire donors to support the life-saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ensure that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
The two-day radio campaign encouraged thousands of Univision radio listeners across the country to become Angeles de Esperanza (Angels of Hope) by pledging to make a monthly donation of $20 or more. Through their pledge, monthly donors receive a t-shirt that reads Esta Camiseta Salva Vidas, the Spanish-language version of the widely popular “This Shirt Saves Lives” campaign, which gives them the opportunity to join an online movement supported by donors across the country, celebrities...
