“Mission: Impossible” star Tom Cruise pumped up the Super Bowl crowd during Fox’s Super Bowl pregame show on Sunday ahead of the showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Tonight in New Orleans we encounter a mission that doesn’t come along very often. Standing in front of this final act knowing that the long winding road here has all led to this. Everything this sport has seen and done, every first, every mountain climbed, every seemingly impossible conquered, yet there’s always another accomplishment never achieved. There’s always new heights waiting to be reached,” he said in the ad. “I look closely at these fierce competitors and I don’t see fear or hesitation, I see the very best in the world. Men who have worked and dedicated their entire lives for today.”

“I need you to trust me — one last time.”
That’s Tom Cruise begging his fellow Imf teammates to go on one more death-defying expedition to save the world in a new action-packed Super Bowl trailer for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Paramount Pictures will release the film, which is being billed as Cruise’s final outing as super-spy Ethan Hunt, in theaters on May 23.
The spot doesn’t stint on the crazy stunts that have become the franchise’s signature. At one point, Cruise dangles upside down from a plane, clinging on for dear life. Cruise is no slouch when it comes to risking it all on screen, having previously scaled the side of the Burj Khalifa and piloted a motorcycle off a cliff. But even he seemed to think his latest stunt pushed the limits.

Tom Cruise has lit the fuse at the Super Bowl with a new look at Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The feature is the eighth (and possibly final?) installment for Cruise in the long-running franchise, which dates back to 1996’s Mission: Impossible and which has become known for an increasingly ambitious series of stunts.
For almost a decade, the signature stunt of a Mission movie has been teased for upwards of a year in advance, such as Cruise hanging off the side of a plane for Rogue Nation, performing a Halo skydive for Fallout or jumping a motorbike off a cliff for Dead Reckoning. This time, the stunt has been kept under wraps until much closer to the release of the film, with Cruise revealing on Feb. 7 that one stunt involved him hanging off of an upside down propeller plane.

Ethan Hunt has been saving the world for nearly thirty years, but will Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning be his last mission? There have been rumblings that Tom Cruise may call it quits with The Final Reckoning, but if that’s the case, neither he nor director Christopher McQuarrie are prepared to confirm it… yet.
“You gotta see the movie,” Cruise told Empire when they tried to get an answer out of him. “It’s a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment, because it really is something that you have to experience.” The actor added that The Final Reckoning will be “an epic, emotional journey of the entire franchise.“
McQuarrie also wasn’t willing to confirm anything but did say that the film will be “the satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc. I’m pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate.

Tom Cruise has risked life and limb to entertain us for decades. He has scrambled up the side of the Burj Khalifa, driven a motorcycle off a cliff, and flown fighter jets. However, the upcoming Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning sounds like it will feature stunts that even put Cruise to the test.
One of the stunts in The Final Reckoning finds Cruise clinging to the wing of a biplane as it zips through the air at 10,000 feet, and the actor told Empire that it actually caused him to pass out on several occasions. “When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen,” Cruise said. “So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.” That sounds terrifying.
Director Christopher McQuarrie added, “There are stunts in...

Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance took the award for Best Feature at the annual Girls On Film Awards while Emilia Pérez and Hard Truths star Marianne Jean-Baptiste took awards for Best Ensemble and Best Actress respectively.
The fourth edition of the awards, which were held at London’s Curzon Bloomsbury on Sunday, celebrated exceptional achievements by women and people of marginalized genders in the film space. Fargeat, who is nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards this year, was in attendance to collect her award and she told the audience that The Substance “was meant for me to mirror what women have to face in their everyday life by society and it’s not nice, it’s not subtle and it’s not delicate.

Despite reports that audiences wanted less sex on the big screen, hanky panky has made an impressive comeback in the last year. A few thoughts.
Last year saw a rise in films that explored sex and specifically women’s desire on the big screen. Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor got in a steamy love triangle in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and Nicole Kidman is currently drinking milk at Harris Dickinson’s command in UK cinemas in Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, which debuted in 2024. Anora, Sean Baker’s sex worker comedy-drama is one of the front-runners at this year’s awards season after bagging the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year.
We also got treated to more queer sex on screen, still a bit of an anomaly, at least in the mainstream. Alongside Challengers, Guadagnino also offered us Queer, in which Daniel Craig’s William begins a relationship with a much younger man,...

Anyone planning to watch “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” may want to have a health checkup beforehand.
According to director Christopher McQuarrie, the final instalment of the Tom Cruise’s hit spy franchise — films that have become known for upping the crazy with each title when it comes to stunts — has a sequence that gave at least one early audience member more than just a shock.
“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack,'” he told Empire magazine in an interview, according GamesRadar. “And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.”
While the sequence in question wasn’t revealed, the trailer for the “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” sees Cruise scuba dive and explore a wrecked submarine, fly and fall out of a biplane and, naturally, do a lot of running.

We can always count on Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible franchise to present us with some death-defying action sequences, but from the sounds of things, The Final Reckoning is going take that to the next level. While speaking with Empire (via GamesRadar), director Christopher McQuarrie revealed that a screening of “the most difficult thing” they’ve done in the franchise got quite the reaction, nearly prompting a myocardial infarction in one member of the audience.

One of Wonder Woman's most regularly fan-cast actors stars in a stunning piece of fan art that advocates for her Dcu casting. Following the Dceu's abrupt conclusion and the launch of James Gunn's Dcu, Wonder Woman 3 was canceled, and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman portrayal was left behind with the former DC franchise. Now, James Gunn's Dcu is establishing the Dcu Trinity, starting with David Corenswet's Superman, The Brave and the Bold's yet-to-be-cast Batman, and Wonder Woman — the latter of which hasn't received a Dcu project of her own besides Themyscira's Paradise Lost prequel, which is part of the Dcu's first chapter.
Artist Felipe Illa shows what actor Adria Arjona could look like as the Dcu's Wonder Woman in a fan-made concept image. Illa's image depicts Arjona wearing Wonder Woman's classic costume, with white-starred, blue shorts instead of an armored skirt. This version of Wonder...

Edgar Wright’s new adaptation of The Running Man has found its host. Colman Domingo, known for his roles in Rustin and Fear the Walking Dead, has been cast as the charismatic face of the deadly game show in this reimagined version of the dystopian thriller. Domingo will bring his unique style to a role originally made iconic by Richard Dawson in the 1987 adaptation.
The Running Man, based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman), tells the story of Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins a violent reality show to earn money to save his gravely ill daughter. Set in a grim, futuristic America, contestants like Richards are hunted by professional killers in a televised spectacle.
While the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger deviated from the book, Wright’s version promises to stick closer to King’s original vision.

A24's surreal crime thriller Love Lies Bleeding deals heavily in symbolism while blurring the line between reality and delirium, making its ambiguous final resolution difficult to parse. Kristen Stewart's return to the thriller genre weaves a tangled web of obsession, violence, and family drama using a combination of grimy realism and the dreamlike neon glow of the Southwestern United States in the 1980s. Two young women, Lou (Stewart) and Jackie (Katy O'Brian) fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by a series of violent events that spiral out of control, helped along by Lou's diabolical gun-running father (Ed Harris).
There is what seems to be a fairly pure romance at the heart of Love Lies Bleeding, but as Jackie and Lou's relationship unravels and bodies start piling up, doubt is cast over whether there is anything pure or good about any of the characters involved. Director Rose Glass...

2024 was an unusually great year for cinema, as the industry still managed to distribute a high number of excellent films in the wake of the SAG-AFTRA strike that delayed many domestic productions. Although there were many franchises and previously established properties that topped the box office, 2024 was also a year in which many movie stars came to fruition. Some actors, such as Glen Powell, Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Sebastian Stan, had multiple hit projects on their hands, suggesting a bright future for the next generation of the industry as it faces an uncertain era.
Although the year saw the return of many legendary directors working on significant “passion projects,” it also allowed many faded stars the opportunity to launch major comebacks; between Michael Keaton’s return in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Toni Collette’s stealthy comeback in “Juror No. 2,” Richard Gere’s revelatory performance in “Oh, Canada,” and the...

“The Running Man”: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know About Glen Powell’s Next Movie
If you’ve ever found yourself knee-deep in a conversation about dystopian thrillers, there’s a good chance The Running Man has popped up at least once. Remember that 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger? The man who practically defines ‘action hero’ took on crazy villains like Fireball, Dynamo, and Subzero in a blood-pumping race for survival.
Well, the original was a blast, no doubt, but let’s be real—it was more about the spectacle than the substance. That said, the new adaptation is going to be a whole different beast. Starring Glen Powell, The Running Man is getting the overhaul it deserves, ready to elevate the story to an entirely new level.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning had the highest budget of any film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, somewhere in the range of $290 million… but the box office numbers took a dip, the film ending up with a haul of $566 million at the worldwide box office. A lower amount than Ghost Protocol ($694 million), Rogue Nation ($688 million), and Fallout ($786 million) had earned. And they all had substantially lower budgets. With the next film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, set to reach theatres on May 23, 2025, the folks working behind-the-scenes might have an idea that the franchise needs to be shaken up a bit. According to a Rumor shared by The Sun, they’re going to attempt to do this by pulling a younger version of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character into the action.

Ah, the year is coming to a close. And with that comes the obligatory year-end top 10 list. So here are the top 10 movies of 2024 according to me, James Jay Edwards. Remember – this is my list and does not claim to reflect the opinions of anyone else.
10 – A Different Man
As a fan of Adam Pearson’s, I was thrilled to see him in a role he could really sink his teeth into. Bonus points to writer/director Aaron Schimberg for including a scene that addresses the question of representation vs. exploitation.
(Irish musical biopic Kneecap is sort of a 10.5 here. On any given day, it could flip spots with A Different Man.)

Edgar Wright's directing return will arrive sooner, as his adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man has been moved up the 2025 theatrical calendar. Previously adapted into the 1987 action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie explored a dystopian future where incarcerated prisoners are forced to fight and evade a team of deadly hunters in a twisted reality television show. Wright's The Running Man stars Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Josh Broken, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, and William H. Macy.

The new release date isn’t entirely free of competition, as The Running Man will now face off against Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands and Yorgo Lanthimos’ Bugonia, all of which are currently set to open on the same day.

From Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two to Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the movies of 2024 have brought some really great new villains to the big screen. There were some movie villains in 2024 who were just outright evil with no redeeming qualities, like Nicolas Cage’s titular Satanic serial killer in Longlegs. But there were also some villains that turned out to be sympathetic and misunderstood, like Anxiety in Inside Out 2.
2024 brought some surprisingly great villain performances from actors who don’t usually play villains. The typically affable Hugh Grant played a terrifying monster in Heretic, and the charming Josh Hartnett played a cold-hearted murderer in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap. This year brought some really great movies, and with those great movies came some great villains.
Cooper Trap
M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap doesn’t completely hold together as a thriller, but it works beautifully as a dark comedy.
