Marvel Head of Television and Streaming, Brad Winderbaum recently sat down with the Phase Hero podcast and commented on several MCU releases. One of them was ‘Daredevil Born Again.’ The exec confirmed once more that the show’s tone will be more aligned with the tone of Netflix’s original show and that it’s one of the most violent shows they have ever released.

Sony and Amazon/MGM's Spider-Noir series appears to be taking some major liberties with the source material, but given how obscure this Variant of the web-slinger is, does it really matter if "Ben Reilly" is beneath the mask instead of Peter Parker?

Marvel Studios officially unveiled its full slate of series on Disney+ for 2025 in a new sizzle reel released on Wednesday, including first looks at live-action series “Daredevil: Born Again,” “Ironheart” and “Wonder Man,” and animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” “Eyes of Wakanda” and “Marvel Zombies.”

The MCU is getting ready for one of its most anticipated shows, Daredevil: Born Again, which will premiere on March 4, 2025. Marvel Studios has now shared the first official look at the show.

The teaser trailer was shown at Sdcc and Nycc this year and is part of a larger lineup of releases planned for 2024 and 2025.

In the teaser, Matt meets with Kingpin after some time has passed. Matt is still practicing law and doing his superhero work. Kingpin is now running for mayor of New York, which is bad news for superheroes and anti-heroes because he wants to drive them off the streets.

MCU is bracing for the release of one of its highly awaited shows – ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ The show arrives on March 4, 2025, and Marvel Studios has finally revealed the first official look at the show.

The teaser trailer in question was the one released during Sdcc and Nycc this year and it’s part of a greater release slate that’s been announced for 2024/2025.

The teaser sees Matt meeting with Kingpin after some time has passed. Matt is still practicing law and his extracurricular activities. Kingpin is now running for the position of the mayor of New York and this is bad news for superheroes and anti-heroes alike, mostly due to his efforts to root them off the streets.

The trailer also showcases the first official look at Jon Bernthal returning as Punisher, Muse – set to be one of the villains in the show, and Mohan Kapur reprising his role as Yusuf Khan.

Given that it's being developed by Sony, there's been some concern among fans that Amazon's Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage might not see the title character actually suit up. 

Peter Parker has already been replaced by Ben Reilly as Spider-Man Noir, but newly revealed photos and footage from the show's set confirm we're getting a comic-accurate take on the wall-crawling private detective. 

The hero looks like he's stepped straight off the page with a design that's also pretty much identical to what we saw in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Based on how this scene is playing out, Ben will see a fair bit of action as he rides atop a car while shooting webs into the distance. He also has his trademark hat and goggles, though we should point out that it's a stuntman in the suit, not Cage.

Created in 1963, Daredevil has been one of Marvel’s best-ever characters. For newbies, when he was a young child, Matt Murdock was accidentally doused with radioactive chemicals that blinded him. However, it also gave Matt super-enhanced senses as well as a “radar sense” to be able to “see” around him.

When his boxer father refused to take a dive and was murdered by mobsters, Matt wanted justice. After becoming a lawyer, Matt took on the identity of Daredevil to fight various criminals. The character hit a high point in the early 1980s under writer/artist Frank Miller, who made him darker and tougher while introducing his major foe of mob boss, the Kingpin and femme fatale Elektra.

Marvel Studios just wrapped up a surprise Daredevil: Born Again panel at New York Comic Con and the trailer for the highly anticipated Disney+ TV series has leaked online.

The sneak peek includes several of the Man Without Fear's new cowls and clashes with The Punisher, Muse, and The Kingpin. We also catch sight of Bullseye, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson (it's widely believed they were added to the series following the widely publicised creative overhaul).

Season one will have nine episodes and has a release date

Development on Daredevil: Born Again began back in March of 2022. At the time, Matt Corman and Chris Ord were hired as head writers with the aim to create a lighter tone and episodic structure compared to the Netflix series. When...

The initial version of Daredevil: Born Again was a complete disaster. It focused primarily on courtroom drama, featuring very little action from Daredevil. This approach received negative feedback, prompting Marvel to make major changes in how it developed the series.

In late September 2023, after filming six of the 18 episodes, Marvel Studios decided to shift the show’s direction.

The original head writers, Corman and Ord, along with the other directors, were let go after executives reviewed the footage and concluded that the series “wasn’t working.”

Their approach differed significantly from the Netflix version, causing Charlie Cox to not appear as Daredevil until the fourth episode. Marvel intended to retain some of the filmed scenes while incorporating new elements and aligning more closely with the tone of the original Netflix series.

A number of people involved with bringing Daredevil: Born Again to the screen have promised that the upcoming Disney+ series will be every bit as dark and violent - if not more so - than the now defunct Netflix show, and Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, reiterated just how gritty the Man Without Fear's long-awaited return is going to be during a previously unreleased D23 interview.

During an appearance on ABC's On The Red Carpet Storytellers Spotlight stage, Winderbaum shared updates on several small-screen projects, and compared Born Again to HBO's notoriously brutal Game of Thrones.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 begins production in a few weeks but we won't get to watch that first batch of episodes until next March.

The Disney+ series promises to take a deep dive into the street-level corner of the MCU, something we'd once hoped was also the plan for Spider-Man 4. 

Now, The Cosmic Circus brings a few rumoured updates on the show and the Man Without Fear's fellow Defenders. As expected, Mayor Wilson Fisk will indeed be hunting down vigilantes, with Echo and Blindspot once on his list. We've been hearing whispers of a Silver Surfer project for quite a while at this stage, and it seems Marvel Studios is still planning to give the space-faring hero the spotlight in his (or her?) own solo outing down the line.

A previous rumor claimed that The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman's multi-year deal with Marvel could potentially include helming episodes of a Silver Surfer Disney+ series, while another indicated that it was actually a Special Presentation that was in the works.

While Marvel Television (the original Jeph Loeb-led iteration) was in charge of Netflix's Daredevil, MCU concept artist Ryan Meinerding was enlisted to design the Man Without Fear's costume.

It didn't feature the iconic "Dd" logo and neither has any iteration of the suit since. In fact, it was still missing when Matt Murdock made his MCU debut in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and, based on Daredevil: Born Again set photos, it won't feature there either.

Perhaps the thought process is that a blind superhero wouldn't need or want to put a logo on his chest. Still, fans remain eager to see it on screen.

In the newly released Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding book, new artwork confirms that at least two different versions of the suit were designed for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law with the "Dd" logo front and centre.

Daredevil: Born Again underwent a creative overhaul midway through production, resulting in sweeping changes to both the story and creative team.

We believe original plans called for Foggy Nelson to die, prompting Matt Murdock to give up being the Man Without Fear (resulting in the lawyer not suiting up for at least four or five episodes of the nine-episode series). In place of a random gunman, we now have Bullseye and set photos have confirmed Karen Page has also been added to the scene. 

Some footage from the original shoot will remain and it appears Foggy is still set to take a bullet. However, according to a new rumour shared on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, there's going to be a unique twist. 

While we're not putting too much stock in this, it's said that Matt is forced to work for Wilson Fisk's Mayoral campaign after turning to the Kingpin to help keep Foggy alive.

Jon Bernthal ducked out of "The Walking Dead" at the right time (the end of season 2). He stayed on long enough to prove his talent without winding up tied down to the show. Of the series' original main cast, Bernthal has also had easily the most prolific film and television career since.

One of his most popular roles was in another comic book-based television series: Frank Castle/The Punisher on "Daredevil," and then a two season "Punisher" spin-off. Bernthal's Punisher is easily the highlight of "Daredevil" season 2; the season suffers whenever it pivoted to the less compelling Elektra/Hand storyline (Elodie Yung never steals a scene like Bernthal does). Even with the controversies surrounding the Punisher character, Marvel Studios has chosen to bring Bernthal back for revival series "Daredevil: Born Again." Welcome back, Frank!

In a funny coincidence, Bernthal is not the only "Walking Dead" alum to have played the Punisher.

In an unexpected twist of fate, a largely forgotten Marvel anime from 2014, has recently resurfaced on YouTube, becoming the talk of Marvel and anime fans alike. This decade-old anime film, titled, Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher, produced by Madhouse, was initially overlooked by mainstream audiences. However, thanks to YouTube’s mysterious algorithm, it’s now finding a new audience and receiving a second wind of attention.

Deadline brings word that Amazon's Spider-Noir has cast Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston in a mysterious "bodyguard" role. No further details have been shared, though he could be playing anyone from an unnamed heavy to a new take on villains like Hammerhead and Tombstone.

He now joins a cast which will be led by Nicolas Cage (who is supposedly playing Ben Reilly in place of Peter Parker), Brendan Gleeson, Lamorne Morris, Abraham Popoola, and Li Jun Li.

HBO's Boardwalk Empire put Huston on the map, though the ill-fated Ben-Hur derailed his attempt to become a Hollywood leading man. The closest he's come to starring in a comic book project is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. His other credits include The Irishman, House of Gucci, and Fargo.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is one of the most anticipated upcoming projects. Matt Murdock has appeared in the MCU several times already, but with the release of his own standalone show, his bringing a lot of other characters from Netflix’s ‘Defenders’ Saga.

‘Born Again’ had sort of a rocky production. The show was initially imagined as a soft reboot of Netflix’s show, and the approach was widely different. A lot of notable characters weren’t featured at all, or they were recast.

After execs reviewed the shot material, they decided to reboot the reboot, additional scenes for the show had to be filmed and the show completely changed direction. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ became the continuation of Netflix’s show, and much of the old cast returned.

Daredevil: Born Again was among the MCU titles showcased at D23 earlier this month and, much to the delight of Marvel fans who didn't make the trip to Anaheim, it quickly leaked online.

Believe it or not, it still hasn't been pulled - as you can see here - but a much better-quality version has surfaced on social media in the past couple of days. While not quite the same as an official release, part of the screen is no longer cut off and the overall picture and sound quality is much-improved.

As a result, we get a much better look at everything from the Man Without Fear's five cowls to his clashes with The Punisher, Muse, The Kingpin, and more. In the build-up to Deadpool and Wolverine's release, numerous character cameo rumors did the rounds, and one name that popped up quite a lot was our second big-screen take on Frank Castle, Thomas Jane.

The actor, who only made a single appearance as the ultra-violent vigilante in 2004's The Punisher, was rumored to reprise his role along with the likes of Wesley Snipes (Blade), Jennifer Garner (Elektra), and Dafne Keen (X-23), but Jane has now confirmed that he was never contacted about a potential return during an interview with The Direct.

Jane also shared his thoughts on Jon Bernthal's current incarnation of Frank Castle, who he feels is a better fit for the character.

"I like [Jon] Bernthal's Punisher. I think, you know, for me, it was always a little bit of a stretch. Frank Castle is supposed to be an Italian American. I'm not. I'm an Irish American.

When Daredevil: Born Again finally arrives on Disney+ next March, we're expecting a long overdue deep dive into the street-level corner of the MCU.

We know the Man Without Fear will cross paths with the likes of White Tiger and The Punisher, while various online scoopers have claimed the plan for Spider-Man 4 is for Peter Parker and Daredevil to do battle with The Kingpin. 

If that happens, then we'd imagine the idea is to bring Wilson Fisk's story to a definitive close when he's defeated by his two greatest foes. 

Lead star Charlie Cox recently teased plans for cameos in Daredevil: Born Again and Daniel Richtman has now "confirmed" rumours that Jacques "Jack" Duquesne (Tony Dalton) will appear in the series. Is he finally going to suit up as Swordsman? That remains to be seen. 

The scooper also claims that there were once plans for Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms.

Daredevil: Born Again will finally deliver a deep dive into the street-level corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Hawkeye gave us a glimpse into that, of course, but it's in this series that we'll see vigilantes in action. 

The Punisher and White Tiger are both confirmed to appear and lead star Charlie Cox commented on the latter character's role during a recent appearance at Fan Expo Chicago. 

"I mean, we don't follow any of the comic books in terms of story," he told fans (via Screen Rant). "We don't follow any of them closely, and there's a number of reasons for that. One, because if you follow a storyline closely, it becomes a foregone conclusion because everyone knows how it ends."

Daredevil was a raging success at Netflix, and as one of the pioneers of Marvel television, it opened the doors for other superhero characters to have their own stories told on the small screen. Even the iconic The Defenders series looked like Daredevil 2.0.

Good thing Marvel Studios found a way to revive Charlie Cox’s show and bring it to the MCU. The project will now move forward with the original cast back in the game but with a new story and mission that will test the tenacity of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

Charlie Cox Remains Grateful To Netflix For Original Daredevil Series

It’s still a long way to go before the release of Daredevil: Born Again but the hype around it remains sky-high. The fans expect nothing but the best from it following the announcement of a creative overhaul.

Some Marvel characters have led the cinematic universe into becoming one of the most lucrative franchises in the history of Hollywood, such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. With such a clear divide between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television, most fans never expected Netflix's street-level characters to appear in the MCU.

That changing looked a little more likely when Disney shuttered Marvel Television, but even then it was hard to imagine Kevin Feige and company being willing to pick up where several seasons of programming on Netflix left The Defenders.

However, in 2021, Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned in Hawkeye and, mere weeks later, we saw Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home Home.

The former's newfound strength suggested Marvel Studios was making some changes to the characters, and while the Netflix shows have since been made "canon" to Earth-616, we still don't expect future projects like Daredevil: Born Again to adhere too closely to what's come before.

Ben Affleck may have played the character in the underrated 2003 movie, but Cox's performance in the 2015 Netflix series really presented The Man Without Fear as a main event level player in the Marvel live-action field. Charlie Cox began his journey as Matt Murdock back in 2015. Originally a Netflix series, Daredevil quickly became one of the jewels of superhero television. It spawned an entire franchise, known as the 'Defenders Saga', introducing characters like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Iron Fist. In 2022, the Defenders Saga switched from Netflix to Disney+'s streaming library. And around the same time, Charlie Cox was making MCU appearances, most notably in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Speaking to People, Cox explained the timeline of how Daredevil made its way to the MCU.

Charlie Cox revealed to People magazine that he was first contacted by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about a potential return as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the way back in 2020. It would take another two years before the studio announced “Daredevil: Born Again,” although by then Cox had already popped up as the character in a cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The actor became convinced during those two years that he’d just never get his own “Daredevil” series again.

Netflix's Daredevil series wasn't exactly what you'd call a bloodbath, but it was certainly darker and more violent than anything we'd seen in the MCU at that time, featuring some pretty shocking moments over the course of its three seasons.
