Charlie Wright’s casting as Rodrick Heffley in the fourth live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid film sparked the #NotMyRodrick meme, which the actor claimed had “ruined my career”. In a video about the incident that was uploaded on YouTube and TikTok on Sunday, the actor addressed the harsh criticism he received after playing Rodrick Heffley in what is considered to be his first public statement.
In the nine-minute clip, Wright talked about the negative reaction that followed the initial release of David Bowers’ Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul trailer in early 2017. “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight admits he couldn’t believe it when Paramount Studios and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura called him two years ago, asking him to helm the upcoming “Transformers” movie.
“My initial question was, ‘Did you guys get the right number?'” Knight joked at Sunday’s premiere of “Bumblebee” at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. “You’ve seen the kind of movies I make right? You know I make weird little artisanal indie films with my bare hands. I play with dolls for a living.”
It wasn’t long before he came around to the idea. “I grew up with the ‘Transformers,'” he said, recalling watching the cartoons, reading the comic books, and playing with Transformers toys. “I had a little Bumblebee action figure. Me and him would go on little adventures in my parents’ basement.”

Bumblebee has found its voice. Maze Runner and Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien is providing the vocals for the title Autobot in Paramount’s first Transformers standalone film, which hits theaters December 21. The Travis Knight-directed origin story will mark the first feature in the franchise to showcase Bumblebee’s real voice. In the previous installments, yellow-and-black Transformer is forced to speak via its car radio.
Set in the 1980s, the prequel stars Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie who, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers and revives Bumblebee, who is refuged in a junkyard. John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon, and Stephen Schneider co-star.
The screenplay is by Christina Hodson and Kelly Fremon Craig. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy, and Michael Bay are producers. Exec producing are Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian and Chris Brigham.

I think that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Bumblebee are having a race to see who can release more trailers and TV spots! I seems like almost every day new stuff is being released for these movies!
Today’s international Bumblebee spot comes with a bit of new footage of Optimus Prime with his classic Generation 1 look. This is the version of the characters that we’ve all been waiting for, and they look great!
I also included the two clips from the film. The first is called “Hide and Seek” and features the main character, Charlie, teaching Bumblebee how to hide. The second clip is called “Forest Chase” and shows John Cena chasing Bumblebee through the forest.
It was recently announced that Bumblebee will be getting an early release for one day on Saturday, December 8th, which is a great strategy to start building the world of mouth buzz.

Paramount Pictures has decided to offer early screenings for the upcoming Transformers prequel film Bumblebee. The early screening will take place on only one day two weeks before its December 21st wide release. That day is on Saturday, December 8th.
This early screening comes with a little something for any one who attends as well. Each person will get what is called “bonus content.” There’s no word on what that “bonus content” will be, so we’ll just have to wait and see. You’ll also get a Transformers: Tiny Turbo Changers Movie Toy from Hasbro.
Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at BumblebeeMovie.com as well as participating theaters.
This is actually a really great way to market the film and build some buzz before the movie is released. The studio clearly loves the film and has enough confidence in it to want to do that.

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Bumblebee, which shows Hailee Steinfeld forming a relationship with the lovable Transformer.
Bumblebee will take the series back in time to the 1980s, thus serving as a prequel to the main series as well as a spinoff. In the trailer, Steinfeld’s character Charlie Watson finds a Vw bug in a Californian junk yard, only to discover that the yellow car isn’t just a vehicle.
Turns out, Optimus Prime (or the ghost of the Transformer) sent Bumblebee on a mission to earth to protect the humans from war — and the Decepticons.

Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow Vw bug.

A new photo from the set of director Travis Knight's Bumblebee movie has surfaced online. It gives us our first look at Bumblebee as an old-school Vw bug. I love that we get to see Bumblebee in his original form this time around.
I'm really hoping that this movie will actually tell a decent story that Transformers fans will enjoy. I trust that Knight will give us something that is at least charming and enjoyable. Here's what we know about the plot so far:
The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. (Aotn) Last week, we heard that the ‘Bumblebee‘ solo film had finally begun production. As the first spinoff film in the ‘Transformers‘ franchise, the team behind the the new solo films have talked openly about the importance of the ‘Bumblebee‘ movie. Although the franchise has grossed over 4.3 Billion worldwide, this film offers a turning point for the series in many ways. Especially when you consider each film has had diminishing returns from a box office perspective, the upcoming prequel needs to hit it out of the park to keep the franchise alive.
Based on our official first official look at Hailee Steinfeld‘s character “Charlie Watson”, this movie is certainly trying to differentiate itself as much as it possibly can from it’s predecessors. This is a good thing. It’s going to be interesting to finally see a someone else’s take on a ‘Transformers‘ film other than Michael Bay.

As production begins in the Transformers spin-off film Bumblebee, we have our first look at Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role of Charlie Watson. The actress posted the image on Twitter, and as you can see, she's sporting 80s-style punk look, which is the era that the film is set in. She's also teasing the character attitude with her look.
The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow Vw bug.
I've enjoyed the work film work that Steinfeld has been a part of and I'm sure she'll be great in the film, which also stars John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow,...

The Transformers franchise may never actually end. Transformers: The Last Knight, which has seen its domestic theatrical run nearly come to a complete close, only made $128.8 million domestically, down from the fourth chapter's $245 million, and Dark of the Moon's $352 million. In olden days, this would spell disaster for a blockbuster franchise, but due to growing global markets where Transformers has had insane success, there will be no shortage of Transformers films in the coming years. In fact, Transformers is becoming a proper movie universe like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, and Dark Universe, with the next film set to be the spinoff titled Bumblebee.

We have good news and bad news coming out of the Transformers camp today.
First up, the good: WWE wrestler John Cena has landed a lead role in the Travis Knight-directed Bumblebee movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But rather than lighting up theaters in June, the first of Paramount’s Transformers spinoffs will now open Stateside on December 21st, 2018. That’s a release date it currently shares with Aquaman, so it’ll be interesting to find out if Warner Bros. and/or Paramount shuffle their slates to avoid a clash of interests or, in the more likely scenario, whether the two standalone tentpoles will duke it out for box office supremacy in a year’s time.
Then again, it’s worth keeping in mind that Paramount’s Bumblebee movie, one that takes place in the 1980s, will skew toward a younger audience – hence the casting of Cena – with...

The fourth Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie arrives in the UK this weekend. Well, we liked it...
Where possible, I try and write a review of a film without having seen anyone else’s opinions of it first. I’ve got plenty of time afterwards to assess just how wrong I am in the eyes of the world.
Last weekend, then, rather than attend a press show, I took my children of varying ages (which tends to be how children work) to the new Wimpy Kid film, The Long Haul. I’ve enjoyed the first three, and particular applaud the quite brilliantly cast company of young performers. But young performers grow old and so, five years after Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 3, The Long Haul arrives with the same director (David Bowery), author Jeff Kinney still heavily involved, but a totally new cast.
I was expecting something akin to a reboot,...

A fourth big-screen outing for the amiable family franchise features a new cast but it’s run out of fun
Faced with ageing or refusenik performers, the amiable family franchise’s fourth big-screen outing elects for ruthless, root-and-branch recasting. Alicia Silverstone and Tom Everett Scott are new and 33% blander as the Heffley elders, while Jason Drucker succeeds Zachary Gordon as eponymous weakling Greg, here caught plotting to reroute the clan’s road trip towards a much-anticipated gaming expo. Returning director David Bowers gives it sporadic pep: there’s a fun Psycho homage, and CGI projectile vomit. Elsewhere the books’ stick-figure illustrations get converted into banal, overlit, primetime sitcom images, and the endless off-route wheelspinning makes that subtitle lamentably apt. For once, it’ll be the grownups asking the kids: “Are we there yet?”

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, and to paraphrase those renowned seventies scholars the Brady Bunch, “When it’s time to change then it’s time to change.”
While I’ve tried my hardest to slowly sneak those changes in, it’s gotten to the point where we’ll need to do something more drastic if the few of you reading the Weekend Warrior on a weekly basis actually want it to remain coming to you on a weekly basis. Because of that, we’re going to try something different by not throwing in as much independent limited releases for those checking the column out, and making the column a little more focused at least for the time being. (I’m probably going to move reviews for my Top Picks over to my blog, which is easy enough to...
