Rafael had the opportunity to start his acting training with Rodolfo Palacios, renowned actor and film director best known for his role in Mel Gibson's Apocalypto. In Mexico, he studied acting at Casazul. Rafael McGuire has collaborated as a production assistant at Televisa Morelos. Rafael moved to Hollywood, California, where he studied cinematography and film production at the Los Angeles Film School. During this time, he made appearances in independent films that played at film festivals across the country, including the Sundance Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
In these early days, he explored music by recording cover versions of songs and eventually composing and recording original music of his own under the stage name Rafalo. The artist's releases at that time had an official video and were "Wide Awake" and his electronic music version of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know", two covers recorded at Azul Music Studio in Cuernavaca.
In 2013, he was part of the cast in the short film "Alternative" in which he played Victor.
