Earlier this year, the rumor mill began churning with our favorite kind of speculation — the Glen Powell variety — mixed with our favorite genre — horror. The whispers seemed to indicate that the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star was on his way to getting twisted up with the remake of an iconic slasher flick from yesteryear: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These early rumblings also indicated that Strange Darling scribe and helmer, Jt Mollner, who will soon flex his writing muscles with Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, would be backing the reboot, setting up a match made in heaven — or, in the case of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre — hell. Mollner’s frequent collaborator and producer, Roy Lee, was also thrown into the mix of gossip, so when The Mary Sue editor and sometimes Collider writer, Rachel Leishman, spoke with the pair during the Sdcc festivities, she inquired about the killer rumors.

Ahead of its theatrical release this August, New Line Cinema’s newest supernatural horror movie Weapons has received its first reactions, teasing another massive hit for the Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Just like the acclaimed 2022 movie, Cregger is also directing from a screenplay he wrote.

As seen on social media, the first reactions to Weapons have finally arrived online from early screenings, with most critics praising Cregger’s vision and direction. On X, FilmSpeak's Griff Schiller called the movie “a horror masterpiece and the best film of the year,” while also comparing it to Denis Villeneuve and Paul Thomas Anderson movies. “It's Prisoners by way of Magnolia with some of the Coen's absurdist humor. An absolutely Brilliant commentary on the attitudes and institutions during the fallout of a communal tragedy.” He adds, “a chilling masterclass in suspense and Pov storytelling that exposes a society with dwindling empathy that tolerates dehumanizing acts.

Though full reviews are still embargoed, the first social media reactions for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated second feature, Weapons, have arrived, and they are universally positive.

Weapons is still shrouded in mystery, and although the trailers have given a few things away, the marketing has done a pretty good job of keeping the movie's biggest secrets under wraps.

While these reactions don't spoil anything outright, they do hint at certain things, so proceed with caution if you'd rather know as little as possible going in. Also, we advise not reading the comments beneath certain posts, which do contain major spoilers for the movie!

The social media embargo for James Gunn’s “Superman” has been lifted, bringing with it the first reactions from members of the film press. The Warner Bros. tentpole is the latest superhero movie from “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Suicide Squad” writer-director Gunn, who is now overseeing DC Studios with Peter Safran. “Superman” marks the launch of a rebooted DC Universe on the big screen. Film press are calling it a “thrilling start” to Gunn’s DC Studios.

Film critic Bryan Sudfield praised “Superman” as a “bold yet faithful” feature adaptation of the DC icon. He added that Gunn’s take felt unique while still staying true to the character’s roots.

James Gunn's Superman marks our introduction to a new shared DC Comics universe, and it all kicks off with our latest big-screen take on the Man of Steel. The Dcu will also see the debut of a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold, and Gunn recently revealed that a Wonder Woman movie is currently being written.

It probably goes without saying that the plan is to unite these iconic characters at some point, and Gunn has now confirmed that we will see the Trinity share the screen in the Dcu - just "not in the next movie."

By the next movie, we assume Gunn is referring to the Superman sequel he has mentioned in previous interviews. The filmmaker has indicated that it won't be a direct follow-up, which has led to speculation that it could be a World's Finest-style Batman/Superman film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready to wrap up Phase Five with its newest series, Ironheart. This show follows Riri Williams, a teenage genius from Chicago who builds her own powerful suit and steps into a world of superheroes and magic. Fans first met Riri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and now she’s back in her own show, played once again by Dominique Thorne.

The show was announced back in December 2020. At the same time, Marvel confirmed Thorne would play the lead. A few months later, in April 2021, Chinaka Hodge joined as the head writer.

Then in 2022, more cast members were revealed, and directors Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes came on board. Filming started in Atlanta in June 2022, moved to Chicago later in the year, and wrapped by November.

The release of Ironheart is upon us, marking the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Serving as the final chapter of Phase Five, the series continues the story of Riri Williams while introducing a unique magical twist to her journey.

Dominique Thorne returns as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, following her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She stars alongside Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White.

The series was first announced in December 2020, with Thorne’s casting confirmed at the time. In April 2021, Chinaka Hodge joined as head writer, and additional cast members were revealed in February 2022. Directors Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes came on board in April 2022.

Filming began in June 2022 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to Chicago in October. Production wrapped in early November.

The serial killer thriller Dangerous Animals has gotten its debut Rotten Tomatoes score with its early reviews from critics. It's good news for the film heading up to its wide release on June 6.

Currently, Dangerous Animals is holding an approval rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. The score is likely to fluctuate as more reviews are added, and it remains to be seen what the audience score will be after the film is widely released. As it stands, the critics are appreciating how Dangerous Animals has found an interesting way to blend the horror of sharks and serial killers into one story. High praise has also been given to the film's lead actors, including Dceu star Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad).

From Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther and Creed, comes a new vision of fear: Sinners. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

There's already been a lot of positive buzz surrounding the upcoming vampire movie, and the first social media reactions have just dropped (via FearHQ.com).

They're all overwhelmingly positive - which is what we've come to expect - but in place of the usual buzzwords are a lot of well-thought-out reviews and comments that point to Coogler's latest movie more than living up to expectations.

Coogler has an impeccable track record as a filmmaker, so this isn't a huge shock. The big test will be the reviews, as those can often differ greatly from early reactions like these.

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" will pit Michael B. Jordan against vampires, and early reactions have hailed the horror film (which had some real-world inspiration) as fang-tastic. In this one, the "Black Panther" star plays Smoke and Stack, a pair of twin brothers who return to their hometown to discover that it's overrun with blood-thirsty fiends, led by the vicious Remmick (Jack O'Connell). The movie is also a period piece, with the story set in the American South during the 1930s.

The town-being-tormented-by-bloodsuckers premise is reminiscent of all-time great vampire horror movies like "30 Days of Night," "Salem's Lot," and "The Lost Boys," but this is a Coogler joint, and that means it'll have its own distinct flavor. The director was also inspired by the films of Robert Rodriguez, John Carpenter, and the Coen Brothers, so viewers can look forward to a genre-hopping slice of action-packed scare fare.

We recently reported on the run-times for the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, but now that the full season has been sent out to critics in advance of the show's premiere next week, we know how long all nine episodes will clock-in at.

Most of the eps average at around the 40-minute mark, but the pilot and finale are significantly longer at 58 and 57 minutes, respectively.

Marvel has also released a new social media spot focusing on Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), who will have established himself as the Mayor of New York by the time we catch up with him after the events of Echo.

Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most exciting Marvel TV shows to come along in a while. The rebooted series will introduce Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock as a fully-fledged MCU hero. Up to now, he's only made a couple of appearances within the wider continuity. For instance, he played Peter Parker's lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and more recently appeared in the animated series Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Helmed by Dario Scardapane (who previously worked as an executive producer on The Punisher), Born Again brings the old team back together. Deborah Ann Woll is back as Karen Page, Elden Henson returns as Foggy Nelson, and of course, Vincent D'Onofrio reprises his role as the Kingpin himself, Wilson Fisk.

Stars, filmmakers and special guests hit the red carpet in New York City tonight to celebrate the launch of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, and initial reactions to the first two episodes are now online.

The biggest takeaway here is that Born Again is said to feel like a natural continuation of the Netflix series, although quite a few of the posts below note that it's not exactly the same.

The Disney+ show is reportedly every bit as brutal, bloody and hard-hitting (perhaps even more so?) as its predecessor, however, and the opening scene is said to be a complete shocker.

Possibly as a response to the recent leaks and/or an attempt to build more hype and excitement in the run-up to the movie's release later this month, Universal has shared a clip from Wolf Man which spotlights pretty much the entire transformation Blake (Christopher Abbott) will undergo in the final act.

Previous trailers and TV spots have only shown brief glimpses of the titular beast, but we get a great look at the creature design here as Blake changes into a human/animal hybrid that's definitely more man than wolf.

There's still a chance this isn't the Wolfman's final form, but it looks like Blake is going to spend quite a bit of time as this reimagined take on the classic monster.

The studio that previously brought you the classic stable of Universal Monsters films, misfiring modern attempts like Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" and the Dark Universe that wasn't to be, and genuinely inspired course corrections such as Leigh Whannell's "The Invisible Man" in 2020 has now set its sights on the next highly-anticipated horror update. Universal is clearly taking the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" strategy by bringing Whannell right back into the fold and allowing him to work his distinctive magic all over again -- this time, with none other than the latest retelling of "Wolf Man." In my estimation, the first reactions are a mixed bag of people who think Jenkins understood the assignment, while others believe going back to the Pride Lands was a waste of time and money.
