Earlier this year, the rumor mill began churning with our favorite kind of speculation — the Glen Powell variety — mixed with our favorite genre — horror. The whispers seemed to indicate that the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star was on his way to getting twisted up with the remake of an iconic slasher flick from yesteryear: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These early rumblings also indicated that Strange Darling scribe and helmer, Jt Mollner, who will soon flex his writing muscles with Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, would be backing the reboot, setting up a match made in heaven — or, in the case of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre — hell. Mollner’s frequent collaborator and producer, Roy Lee, was also thrown into the mix of gossip, so when The Mary Sue editor and sometimes Collider writer, Rachel Leishman, spoke with the pair during the Sdcc festivities, she inquired about the killer rumors.

Ahead of its theatrical release this August, New Line Cinema’s newest supernatural horror movie Weapons has received its first reactions, teasing another massive hit for the Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Just like the acclaimed 2022 movie, Cregger is also directing from a screenplay he wrote.
As seen on social media, the first reactions to Weapons have finally arrived online from early screenings, with most critics praising Cregger’s vision and direction. On X, FilmSpeak's Griff Schiller called the movie “a horror masterpiece and the best film of the year,” while also comparing it to Denis Villeneuve and Paul Thomas Anderson movies. “It's Prisoners by way of Magnolia with some of the Coen's absurdist humor. An absolutely Brilliant commentary on the attitudes and institutions during the fallout of a communal tragedy.” He adds, “a chilling masterclass in suspense and Pov storytelling that exposes a society with dwindling empathy that tolerates dehumanizing acts.

Though full reviews are still embargoed, the first social media reactions for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated second feature, Weapons, have arrived, and they are universally positive.
Weapons is still shrouded in mystery, and although the trailers have given a few things away, the marketing has done a pretty good job of keeping the movie's biggest secrets under wraps.
While these reactions don't spoil anything outright, they do hint at certain things, so proceed with caution if you'd rather know as little as possible going in. Also, we advise not reading the comments beneath certain posts, which do contain major spoilers for the movie!
Here's what Cregger had to say about the (possible) meaning behind the movie's title during a recent interview with EW.
"My wife told me her friend called and was like, 'Do you know the etymology of that word means "small arms"?' Just think about that for a second.

When Zach Cregger unleashed Barbarian into the world in 2022, many hailed the director as a fresh voice in modern horror. He took a step back following its success to pen the animated sci-fi comedy Mars, and produce this year's sci-fi thriller, Companion. Now, he's back in the director’s chair with Weapons, the long-awaited follow-up to his groundbreaking horror hit, but is it just as good? Based on early reactions to the film, the answer is no, it's not as good – it's even better!
Following an early screening of Weapons ahead of its wide release on August 8, social media is buzzing with reactions to the film, which stars the likes of Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, and Austin Abrams. Critic Matthieu Côté called it "downright terrifying," and a film that "cements Zach Cregger as a strong voice in modern horror and a master of mystery." They added:

To much fanfare, and a galaxy of stars in attendance, Marvel Studios’ hotly anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps held its world premiere at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on Monday night.
Not long after the screening ended, reactions to the movie started flooding social media. Though full critics’ reviews for First Steps are embargoed till Tuesday, the early social media response seems overwhelmingly positive, with many viewers suggesting that the film is the best cinematic depiction of Marvel’s First Family.
The 37th entry in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe, First Steps is directed Matt Shakman and stars Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grim/The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) as the titular team. The first social media reactions for Superman have landed, and we now have a much better idea of what to expect from the Man of Steel's big screen return. The DC Studios reboot will introduce moviegoers to the new Dcu, and many believe the franchise's future hinges on its success.
After a couple of leaked reviews painted a largely negative picture of Superman, these reactions are mostly very positive. So far, the CGI seems to be the biggest gripe people had, but beyond that, most walked away very happy with how filmmaker James Gunn portrayed these characters.
The word "mess" crops up again, but this sounds like a crowd-pleaser, and that's what DC Studios will be banking on as it looks to restore a brand tarnished by the Dceu's dying days.

The social media embargo for James Gunn’s “Superman” has been lifted, bringing with it the first reactions from members of the film press. The Warner Bros. tentpole is the latest superhero movie from “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Suicide Squad” writer-director Gunn, who is now overseeing DC Studios with Peter Safran. “Superman” marks the launch of a rebooted DC Universe on the big screen. Film press are calling it a “thrilling start” to Gunn’s DC Studios.
Film critic Bryan Sudfield praised “Superman” as a “bold yet faithful” feature adaptation of the DC icon. He added that Gunn’s take felt unique while still staying true to the character’s roots.
“‘Superman’ soars with heart, humor, and style—a bold yet faithful take on the iconic hero,” he wrote on X. “James Gunn sets a fresh tone while honoring the character’s legacy, and David Corenswet shines with sincerity and strength.

Lilo & Stitch keeps climbing as the live-action remake, riding high after news of a sequel, has now passed another major milestone at the box office. After its sixth Monday in theaters, with $1.1 million pulled in from nearly 3,000 screens, followed by $1.6m on Tuesday, it has moved up to the 51st spot in the all-time domestic box office rankings, passing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Frozen along the way.

James Gunn's Superman marks our introduction to a new shared DC Comics universe, and it all kicks off with our latest big-screen take on the Man of Steel. The Dcu will also see the debut of a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold, and Gunn recently revealed that a Wonder Woman movie is currently being written.
It probably goes without saying that the plan is to unite these iconic characters at some point, and Gunn has now confirmed that we will see the Trinity share the screen in the Dcu - just "not in the next movie."
By the next movie, we assume Gunn is referring to the Superman sequel he has mentioned in previous interviews. The filmmaker has indicated that it won't be a direct follow-up, which has led to speculation that it could be a World's Finest-style Batman/Superman film.

The serial killer thriller Dangerous Animals has gotten its debut Rotten Tomatoes score with its early reviews from critics. It's good news for the film heading up to its wide release on June 6.
Currently, Dangerous Animals is holding an approval rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. The score is likely to fluctuate as more reviews are added, and it remains to be seen what the audience score will be after the film is widely released. As it stands, the critics are appreciating how Dangerous Animals has found an interesting way to blend the horror of sharks and serial killers into one story. High praise has also been given to the film's lead actors, including Dceu star Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad).
"Dangerous Animals blends slasher tension with creature-feature horror as Jai Courtney gives one of the most exciting unmasked villain performances in years," Josh Korngut of Dread Central said of the film.

Darius Butler razzed “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” star Tom Cruise about his penchant for popcorn consumption in a promotional video for the latest film in the hit action franchise.
“This is a big journalism show, so I got to get to the bottom of it, because there are questions,” Butler began on Wednesday’s edition of “The Pat McAfee Show.” “Now, you’re Tom Cruise and you do everything a little different. From Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther and Creed, comes a new vision of fear: Sinners. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
There's already been a lot of positive buzz surrounding the upcoming vampire movie, and the first social media reactions have just dropped (via FearHQ.com).
They're all overwhelmingly positive - which is what we've come to expect - but in place of the usual buzzwords are a lot of well-thought-out reviews and comments that point to Coogler's latest movie more than living up to expectations.
Coogler has an impeccable track record as a filmmaker, so this isn't a huge shock. The big test will be the reviews, as those can often differ greatly from early reactions like these.

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" will pit Michael B. Jordan against vampires, and early reactions have hailed the horror film (which had some real-world inspiration) as fang-tastic. In this one, the "Black Panther" star plays Smoke and Stack, a pair of twin brothers who return to their hometown to discover that it's overrun with blood-thirsty fiends, led by the vicious Remmick (Jack O'Connell). The movie is also a period piece, with the story set in the American South during the 1930s.
The town-being-tormented-by-bloodsuckers premise is reminiscent of all-time great vampire horror movies like "30 Days of Night," "Salem's Lot," and "The Lost Boys," but this is a Coogler joint, and that means it'll have its own distinct flavor. The director was also inspired by the films of Robert Rodriguez, John Carpenter, and the Coen Brothers, so viewers can look forward to a genre-hopping slice of action-packed scare fare.

We recently reported on the run-times for the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, but now that the full season has been sent out to critics in advance of the show's premiere next week, we know how long all nine episodes will clock-in at.
Most of the eps average at around the 40-minute mark, but the pilot and finale are significantly longer at 58 and 57 minutes, respectively.
Marvel has also released a new social media spot focusing on Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), who will have established himself as the Mayor of New York by the time we catch up with him after the events of Echo.
Based on what we see in this teaser, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) has every reason to be wary of his old enemy's motives.

Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most exciting Marvel TV shows to come along in a while. The rebooted series will introduce Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock as a fully-fledged MCU hero. Up to now, he's only made a couple of appearances within the wider continuity. For instance, he played Peter Parker's lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and more recently appeared in the animated series Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.
Helmed by Dario Scardapane (who previously worked as an executive producer on The Punisher), Born Again brings the old team back together. Deborah Ann Woll is back as Karen Page, Elden Henson returns as Foggy Nelson, and of course, Vincent D'Onofrio reprises his role as the Kingpin himself, Wilson Fisk.

"Daredevil: Born Again" is resurrecting Marvel's bloodiest superhero show for another round, and several fan-favorite characters are coming back into the fold. Charlie Cox is once again leading the cast as the eponymous crime-fighting vigilante, while Jon Bernthal is reprising his role as The Punisher, which is bound to excite fans who feel their previous adventures ended far too soon. That said, does "Daredevil: Born Again" live up to the lofty expectations set by its predecessor? Or has the property been watered down and Disneyfied now that it's set up at the Mouse House's primary streaming platform?
Well, the good news is that the early reactions to "Daredevil: Born Again" are unanimously positive. Several journalists have flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the new series, with several noting that it's a worthy successor to Netflix's canceled "Daredevil" series (which ran from 2015 until 2018). The nine episode first season of the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025 – and reactions to the first two episodes of the show, which is a continuation of the Netflix Daredevil series and picks up five years later, say those episodes get things off to a great start! The first reactions to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ are in just one week ahead of the global release. The big question was whether Disney could surpass Netflix’s original, which was praised as one of the best Marvel shows ever. From what the early reviews are telling us, it seems that the Marvel Studios are on the right track.
Reviewers are praising ‘Born Again’ as “the best pilot of any MCU series thus far, and it’s not close,” “This is just as brutal as Netflix,” “The action feels sharper and better than the Netflix series.” Here is a full roundup of reviews:
We watched the first two episodes of #DaredevilBornAgain and guys….. We Are In For A Treat!

Daredevil: Born Again First Reactions Hail "Devastatingly Dark" Revival As "Best MCU Pilot Thus Far"
Stars, filmmakers and special guests hit the red carpet in New York City tonight to celebrate the launch of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, and initial reactions to the first two episodes are now online.
The biggest takeaway here is that Born Again is said to feel like a natural continuation of the Netflix series, although quite a few of the posts below note that it's not exactly the same.
The Disney+ show is reportedly every bit as brutal, bloody and hard-hitting (perhaps even more so?) as its predecessor, however, and the opening scene is said to be a complete shocker.
If you've been keeping track of our coverage of the various set photos you might have a pretty good idea what this sequence involves, but no spoilers here just in case.
The reactions are mostly glowing, but there are a few criticisms, including what sounds like some iffy...

The first two episodes of Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” have been unveiled to members of the press, and the first reactions for the Disney+ series are glowing.
Screen Rant on-camera reporter Liam Crowley praised the show on X, writing, “[‘Daredevil: Born Again’] has the best pilot of any MCU series thus far, and it’s not close. Edge of seat energy w/ audible gasps throughout. Charlie [Cox] & Vincent [D’Onofrio] haven’t lost a step, Benson & Moorhead bring the sauce. Above all else, it’s Episodic. We might be back.”
Sean O’Connell, managing editor of Cinema Blend, agreed. He wrote, “Holy Hell’s Kitchen! [‘Daredevil: Born Again’] opens with a lengthy, devastating sequence that screams, ‘This is just as brutal as Netflix.’ From there, the 2 episodes lay out a layered story about cops, vigilantes, and guilt. Read Devil’S Reign as a refresh. Off to a Great start!”

The release of Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated sci-fi movie Mickey 17 has been pushed back multiple times, but it seems the wait will be worth it, as the first reactions on social media are extremely positive. These types of reactions typically are, but I’m inclined to believe that Mickey 17 will be another winner for the director. You can check out the first reactions below!
Bong Joon-ho’s #Mickey17 is an absolute riot and Robert Pattinson further proves why he is one of the best, most versatile actors working today.

Possibly as a response to the recent leaks and/or an attempt to build more hype and excitement in the run-up to the movie's release later this month, Universal has shared a clip from Wolf Man which spotlights pretty much the entire transformation Blake (Christopher Abbott) will undergo in the final act.
Previous trailers and TV spots have only shown brief glimpses of the titular beast, but we get a great look at the creature design here as Blake changes into a human/animal hybrid that's definitely more man than wolf.
There's still a chance this isn't the Wolfman's final form, but it looks like Blake is going to spend quite a bit of time as this reimagined take on the classic monster.
If you'd rather not know how the werewolf is going to look before seeing the movie, here's your spoiler warning.

The studio that previously brought you the classic stable of Universal Monsters films, misfiring modern attempts like Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" and the Dark Universe that wasn't to be, and genuinely inspired course corrections such as Leigh Whannell's "The Invisible Man" in 2020 has now set its sights on the next highly-anticipated horror update. Universal is clearly taking the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" strategy by bringing Whannell right back into the fold and allowing him to work his distinctive magic all over again -- this time, with none other than the latest retelling of "Wolf Man." The famous story of unsuspecting victims succumbing to the grisliest of transformations when the moon turns full is a tale almost as old as cinema itself, but it's safe to say we've never seen it unfold quite like this.
At least, that appears to be the main takeaway from the earliest reactions to "Wolf Man,...

Director Leigh Whannell is set to let loose his version of Wolf Man on January 17, and early screenings of the film have thus far left audiences howling the praises of the latest iteration of the iconic monster. Starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Matilda Firth, Wolf Man puts a new spin on an old classic, much like Whannell's The Invisible Man did in 2020.
Press screenings took place last night for the latest Blumhouse/Universal collaboration, and people quickly took to X to share their reactions to the movie. "Wolf Man will leave you afraid of the dark!" said critic Rachel Leishman, before adding: "Watched this movie with my feet up in the air because I was terrified of what could grab my ankles. Just a suspenseful thrill from start to finish. Christopher Abbott is a star and I love him so much!"

The first press screenings for Wolf Man took place last night, and the social media reactions have been very positive so far.
Although a lot of horror fans were disappointed by the creature design (of both the first werewolf and the monster Christopher Abbott's Blake transforms into) in Blumhouse/Universal's reboot, this doesn't seem to have been an issue for the majority of critics.
Overall, it sounds like director Leigh Whannell has delivered a worthy follow-up to 2020's acclaimed The Invisible Man with a terrifying, gruesome, and surprisingly emotional film.
It's always worth keeping in mind that these initial reactions do tend to be quite effusive, but we haven't come across a single negative post, which is usually a pretty good sign.
Have a read through the reactions below, and we'll continue to update as more come in.

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and while there has been some uncertainty about this one, as fans have been underwhelmed by the glimpses we’ve seen of a Wolf Man design, the first reactions have now made their way online, and they indicate that there’s nothing to worry about. According to these reactions, Wolf Man is an excellent, suspenseful, and emotional horror film. You can read some of them in the embeds below.
The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Garner is playing his wife. Sam Jaeger...

Wolf Man's first reactions are now making their way onto social media, and viewers are praising the new monster movie reboot. Directed by Leigh Whannell, the upcoming fresh take on the classic Universal monster sees Christopher Abbott in the lead role as Blake, a father who begins a terrifying transformation while at a remote cabin with his family, played by Julia Garner and Matilda Firth. The Wolf Man trailers have been careful not to reveal too much about Whannell's take on the iconic monster design, but the film has now screened, finally unveiling the director's chilling vision.
Ahead of Wolf Man's wide theatrical release on January 17, viewers who saw the movie early are now sharing positive reactions on social media. The reactions praise the tense atmosphere and surprising scares, but also claim that there's a strong emotional story beneath all this terror. Abbott's performance, too, is singled out as a highlight.

Disney‘s Barry Jenkins-directed origin story, Mufasa: The Lion King, is ready to roar in theaters, and the first reactions to the film are roaring online. Making a prequel to one of all-time’s most beloved Disney classics is a tall order. Still, Jenkins’ effects-driven origin tale is marching into cinemas with its head held high. Well, for most people. In my estimation, the first reactions are a mixed bag of people who think Jenkins understood the assignment, while others believe going back to the Pride Lands was a waste of time and money.
First, let’s focus on the positive:
#Mufasa is a huge surprise, an exhilarating origin story with a top-notch voice cast, stunning visuals, and endless heart. 2019’s #TheLionKing walked so Barry Jenkins could run here (the animals Showed emotion!). Solid new songs add an extra dimension of fun. It’s a winner! pic.twitter.com...

The social media embargo for Mufasa: The Lion King lifted yesterday and, not to be overshadowed (pun intended), Paramount Pictures has also allowed critics to share their thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Both movies will go head-to-head on December 20.
The consensus is overwhelmingly positive, with all signs pointing to this being a slightly more mature - and emotional - take on the beloved Sega franchise.
Keanu Reeves is being praised for his take on Shadow and it likely won't surprise you to learn that Jim Carrey steals the show. Filmmaker Jeff Fowler has ended a franchise that began with controversy (thanks to Sonic's new look which was later overhauled when the movie was delayed) on a high, and it sounds like we'll be left wanting more.

As Americans still cope with the impact and ramifications of the 2024 presidential election, another winner in a tight race has the world split on its decision: People's Sexiest Man Alive. Started by People Magazine in 1985, the title tends to symbolize the peak in male attractiveness that encompasses both looks and personality. Past winners have included Hollywood heartthrobs like George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, Michael B. Jordan, and Jude Law. This year's winner was a surprise to me, John Krasinski.
People revealed that John Krasinski was People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2024. Krasinski's win is certainly divisive, and while the actor certainly has been a popular icon, many felt this was a long time coming. Some think this win would have felt more appropriate from 2006 to 2010, at the height of The Office's popularity. One film fan's recent experience watching Alfred Hitchcock's influential horror feature Psycho has gone viral , as it highlighted how streaming services and their practices can damage the impact of certain moments. One of the acclaimed director's most recognizable features, 1960's Psycho starred Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, a secretary on the run who has a fateful stay at Norman Bates' (Anthony Perkins) unnerving motel. Suspenseful and atmospheric, Psycho stands out as one of Hitchcock's most influential pieces, daring to set new boundaries and becoming an early example of the slasher subgenre.

First reactions to Rupert Sanders' bloody new adaptation of "The Crow" are rolling in, and it doesn't seem like the remake is going to take flight. At the time of this article's submission, it has an abysmal 22% Rotten Tomatoes critical score, meaning that just over 1 in 5 industry professionals gave the movie a negative review. It's a low grade, but it's not entirely unexpected for a movie that was controversial before it was ever even made.
The root of "The Crow" remake skepticism harkens back to the original film's tragic production, during which rising star Brandon Lee was killed in a gun-related accident that fueled speculation of a curse on the film. Superstition aside, fans of Lee — and of the original film — have been vocal for years about their disinterest in another "The Crow" adaptation, even as multiple sequels to the original have been released to little fanfare. No doubt Alien: Romulus has been one of our most anticipated movies of 2024. Despite the overall tepid — or Alien 3-level — response to everything after James Cameron’s Aliens, the franchise maintains a strong fan base. So, how does Romulus rank amongst the other entries? First reactions to Fede Álvarez's long-awaited space horror flick "Alien: Romulus" are here, and according to several critics, it's a movie that plays like a "greatest hits" take on the series that first began with Ridley Scott's 1979 classic "Alien." Whether or not that's a good thing is up for debate, but early reactions so far appear more mixed than expected — especially after 20th Century Studios dropped such a deliciously nasty trailer for the film earlier this year, setting horror fans abuzz and solidifying the movie as one of the year's most anticipated.
The hype paid off for some critics, including /Film's Bj Colangelo, who notes on X that the film is in her personal top 3 "Alien" film ranking. She calls the new movie "a return to form for the franchise in the sense that it is an unapologetic legacy sequel — but also is filled with thrilling, disgusting, and scary as hell moments.

Fede Álvarez’s hotly anticipated Alien: Romulus was finally revealed to the public Monday night after the 20th Century Studios film held its world premiere in Los Angeles, and the first reactions have already hit social media.
The eighth installment in the long-running Alien franchise is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens. Romulus follows young colonists who come across a derelict space station and encounter the horror of the alien creature that is the enduring star of the franchise. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced and Spike Fearn.
The film is produced by Scott, Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.
Romulus was originally slated to be a Hulu release à la Dan Trachtenberg’s critically acclaimed Predator prequel, Prey (2022), but the studio wisely shifted to theatrical at the start of principal photography. “Right when we started shooting it,...

When early footage reactions to Shawn Levy's highly-anticipated "Deadpool & Wolverine" dropped on Twitter a few weeks back, the consensus was overwhelmingly positive. The limited pool of critics and audiences privy to the 35-minute sneak peek praised the film's irreverent humor while expressing hope for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Well, it seems like we have to wait no longer, as the first reactions to the Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds-led superhero film, which had its world premiere last night, are finally here. While most of the reactions are enthusiastic and effusive, some express a sense of disappointment while praising the performances delivered by the central duo.
The finer details of "Deadpool & Wolverine" are under wraps for good reason, as the film is set to grace theaters this Friday, but the involvement of the Time Variance Authority, leads Deadpool and Wolverine to team up...

The world premiere of Deadpool and Wolverine was held in New York last night, and the stars of the movie donned their glad rags for the glitzy red carpet event prior to the screening.
The most talked about outfit was Blake Lively's eye-catching Deadpool-inspired number, which added more fuel to the rumors that she will be suiting-up as Ladypool, aka Wanda Wilson, in the movie. Of course, she could simply be paying homage to the character that has now become synonymous with her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
The social media embargo also lifted last night, and more reactions have been shared online. While the first round included a few mixed/negative verdicts, we'd say these latest posts are a lot more positive overall.
The reactions are spoiler-free, but some of the photos might give away certain cameos - although none that haven't already been spotlighted in the trailers.
