That’s because, a year ago, Layla (Milian) met what she believed to be the man of her dreams after her flight got cancelled. They agreed to meet up one year later, at the concert. But, when she goes to buy her ticket, it’s already sold out.

This one is called “Meet Me Next Christmas,” and stars Christina Milian and Devale Ellis. It centers on Layla (Milian), as she frantically runs around New York City trying to get a ticket to Pentatonix’s Christmas Eve Concert, in the hopes of meeting the man of her dreams there.

So yes, there are a whole lot of Pentatonix songs on the soundtrack for the film. Some are new, some are classics, and some admittedly aren’t by Pentatonix at all.

The film from director Rusty Cundieff also stars Devale Ellis, Kofi Siriboe, Tymika Tafari, Kalen Allen, Nikki Duval, Wesley French and Pentatonix’s five members Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee.

Camilla Rubis and Molly Haldeman wrote the script. Marc Roberts serves as a producer, while executive producers include Simon Lythgoe, Matt Code and Milian.

The project marks Milian’s third collaboration with Netflix following her popular destination romances, 2021’s “Resort to Love” — which spent four weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 film list — and 2019’s “Falling Inn Love.

Pentatonix is pretty easy to recognize, as perhaps the best-known a cappella group performing today. So from the start, it was pretty easy to tell it was them on “The Masked Singer” – and indeed, the five-person group was unmasked as California Roll on Thursday’s show, which also doubled as the Season 9 semifinals.

For their first song, “Paparazzi,” group member Scott Hoying said they tried to avoid doing any harmonies at first, “so we could hide the iconic Pentatonix harmony sound for at least a minute. For the first minute, I was trying to really change my voice. But it didn’t work, because every comment on every video was like, ‘I knew from the beginning it was Pentatonix and I was confirmed as soon as they all came in.

The semifinals have come and gone on “The Masked Singer” and sadly, California Roll did not make it to the final two slots. Still, they’re pretty pleased with their run, even if fans knew who they were almost immediately. In fact, it was actually “a compliment” to them that that was the case.

Wednesday night’s episode saw Macaw, Medusa and California Roll face off for a trip to the finals, with the giant sushi characters first performing Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.” Then, in the night’s battle royale, they performed Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby” with the other contestants. But, in the end, California Roll was unmasked, and revealed to be… Pentatonix.

Of course, judges Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy knew that, having guessed correctly well prior to their reveal. The same can be said for fans, who picked up on Scott Hoying’s vocals in particular. And admittedly,...

It took till season 9 of “The Masked Singer” but we’ve finally got a costume that features five performers: the California Roll. They took to the stage on March 1 to deliver a soaring cover of the hit “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga. After Polar Bear lost the audience vote and was revealed to be rapper Grandmaster Flash, California Roll was pitted in a Battle Royale with Medusa.

Each put their own spin on the classic tune “Uptown Girl” by Billie Joel. Medusa delivered a traditional take on the tune while California Roll turned it into a haunting ballad. After Medusa won the vote, we thought this was the last we’d see of California Roll but Nicole Scherzinger sounded the Ding Dong bell and saved them.

The project marks the actor and musician’s third collaboration with Netflix following her popular destination romances, 2021’s “Resort to Love” — which spent four weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 film list — and 2019’s “Falling Inn Love.”

Milian will executive produce and star in “Meet Me Next Christmas,” playing Layla, who, in pursuit of a fairytale romance with the man of her dreams, must race through New York City to get her hands on the hottest ticket in town: the sold out Pentatonix Christmas Eve Concert.

A duet between Mickey Guyton, one of the “CMT Artists of the Year” honorees, and guest artist Yola on the title track of Guyton’s new “Remember Her Name” album brought memorable vocal firepower to the annual show’s 2021 in-person resumption, broadcast live from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center Wednesday night.

Other highlights included Randy Travis being emotionally saluted in speech by Garth Brooks and in song by Kane Brown, and Chris Stapleton getting the tribute treatment from Boyz II Men, again making explicit the oft-implicit, historical country/R&b connection.

“CMT Artists of the Year,” which returns as a live show this month, will include some interdisciplinary duets among its lineup, as is customary — with honoree Kelsea Ballerini being joined by the Jonas Brothers, and Yola teaming up with Mickey Guyton, among other collaborations.

Some of the artists being feted on the broadcast will perform on their own, including Luke Combs, Gabby Barrett and Kane Brown. Others, like Guyton and Ballerini, will take part in pairings. But Chris Stapleton will presumably sit back while he’s serenaded by Boyz II Men and Pentatonix’s Kevin Olusola, who are set to collaborate in tribute to Stapleton.

The network is also finding a way to work in the hottest country song of the moment, even though its singer isn’t one of the night’s already designated honorees. That’s “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes, which will get its first live awards-show look on the CMT program.

Pentatonix is getting a head start on Christmas this year. On Friday, the a cappella group released their cover of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" featuring Whitney Houston. The track includes stunning vocals from the late singer as Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee keep the beat in the background.

The new song is part of the group's Christmas album, The Best of Pentatonix Christmas, which was released on Oct. 25. The album is a compilation of their best Christmas covers and also includes four new songs. YouTube-born a cappella supergroup Pentatonix has recruited some of the biggest names in pop music for its third annual NBC holiday special, which is set to air on Dec. 10 at 10 pm.

Pentatonix: A Not So Silent Night, will serve to herald the Grammy-winning quintet's latest holiday album, Christmas Is Here! The special was filmed in Las Vegas and will see the group -- comprised of Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee -- making various stops along the Vegas Strip. WildAid announced it raised $2.5 million at its annual fundraising gala, “An Evening in China,” on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel.

It's been five months since Avi Kaplan, the founding bass singer of Pentatonix, decided to step away from the popular a cappella group. The Pentatonix YouTube channel, which has more than 13 million subscribers, has been quiet since then, but with the holiday season fast approaching, the musical quintet has now added a new member to its ranks. Matt Sallee will join Pentatonix as its bass voice for both an upcoming wintertime tour and a new album called A Pentatonix Christmas Deluxe.

Sallee, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, will take over Kaplan's position in the lowest register of Pentatonix's range. The group, whose other members are Kirstie Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, Scott Hoying, and Mitch Grassi, welcomed its new addition into the fold with an Instagram post. Pentatonix are turning the page after band member Avi Kaplan’s recent departure.

Kaplan revealed he would be “taking a step back” from the a cappella group after six years during a tearful video posted to Facebook on May 12. But Penatonix are taking a leap forward — to find a new bass vocalist.

“We’ll have to find a new bass,” Maldonado tells People Now when asked where the band stands without Kaplan. “There are five of us, so that’s a fifth that’s gone.”
