Some love stories aren’t written in the stars. Sometimes, they’re just two people crossing paths when they least expect it and, without making a song and dance, quietly deciding they’re in it for the long haul. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski? Their love story doesn’t have a fairytale beginning, nor is it wrapped up in public spectacle. It’s not about sweeping declarations or Instagram-perfect moments. It’s about something deeper, quieter—the kind of love that doesn’t need to shout to be seen.

In a new interview, Neeson talks about his age and considers when he should stop taking on physically demanding roles.

Splashy Last Week On The Lido
Uncharacteristically buzzy: The Venice Film Festival ends tomorrow after an uncharacteristically buzzy second week. The festival is usually front-loaded, with the splashiest titles playing early. This year, however, Alberto Barbera, who dished to Andreas, said the lengthy runtimes of some competition titles meant the spoils had to spread across both weeks. Enter Brady Corbet’s 215-minute post-wwii epic The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola. The pic was well received, landing a 13-minute ovation from the Sala Grande audience. Pedro Almodóvar launched his English-language debut The Room Next Door with his leading ladies Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore.

[This story contains spoilers from the Apple TV+ limited series Lady in the Lake, including its finale, “My story.”]
The process of turning Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel Lady in the Lake into an Apple TV+ limited series began more than three years ago and involves the series’ late executive producer, Jean-Marc Vallée, who died suddenly in late December 2021.
Vallée and producing partner Nathan Ross had read the book, with Ross checking it out quickly after its release thanks to a rave review from Stephen King in The New York Times. Ross told Vallée about the novel, thinking of Natalie Portman for the role of Maddie Schwartz, and Vallée wanted Alma Har’el for the project due to her work on the film Honey Boy, Shia Labeouf’s semiautobiographical drama.
Portman too saw and was impressed by Honey Boy.

Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for Apple’s “Lady in the Lake.”
Like some of the best murder mysteries, Alma Har’el’s “Lady in the Lake” is not so much a whodunnit as a howdunnit — with a few good twists along the way. The Apple TV+ drama based on Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel aired its seventh and final episode on August 23, revealing the final pieces in the puzzle of Maddie Morganstern (Natalie Portman), Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), and Tessie Durst (Bianca Belle).
Throughout the seven-episode series — which started with Tessie’s disappearance and then death — Cleo’s narration has hinted at the connection between herself and Maddie, and the eventual consequences of what binds them. After weeks of alluding to a sinister and even fatal ending, the finale gives both women the kind of freedom they didn’t have in their old lives.
What really happened to Cleo?...

Imagine a parallel universe where House never existed, and Hugh Laurie was gallivanting around Gotham instead. Picture him, not as the irascible Dr. House, but as a brooding DC character, missing out on a role he was desperate to play. John Krasinski’s sci-fi horror movie, A Quiet Place, was a massive commercial and critical success. The popularity of the franchise guaranteed a sequel and a prequel, with the latest installment, A Quiet Place: Day One, just arriving in theaters last month.

Plot: When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson, a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger.

A bird’s eye view of “Lady in the Lake” may make Alma Har’el’s ambitious new Apple series sound as generic as its title. In 1966, just outside of Baltimore, a young girl is found dead. The woman who discovers her body, an aspiring journalist, becomes obsessed with the case, and it soon leads her to another body, another suspect, and a criminal conspiracy with dangerous ties to cops, politicians, and more.
All of this is true, but none of it is the full truth. Throughout the ethereal, furious, seven-episode limited series, layers are peeled back over and over. Sometimes they reveal new clues about the case. More often, they tell us something about the two women at its center. Yes, two women. Aside from Natalie Portman’s hungry reporter, Maddie Schwartz — a white woman (of course) whose personal yet picayune connections to the victim spark an outsized obligation to...

Superficially stylishly expressive and dreamy but listlessly placed, overfilled with plot and straining to make thematic connections between its two lead characters, “Lady In The Lake” is a frustrating and often uninvolving series bogged down in too many storylines. Worse, it ambitiously tries to tell too disparate narratives and then weave them together but frequently spins its wheels and never really engages. On paper, it’s abounding with significant talents; it has an accomplished writer/director at the helm, two powerhouse leads (Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram), and a solid supporting cast.

After Honey Boy, director Alma Har’el appeared ready to take over the world. She took home the First-time Director award from the DGA and wowed many with her showcase feature. However, sometimes it takes a minute to find the right project, and lucky for us, Alma Har’el found Lady in the Lake. Based on the acclaimed novel by Laura Lippman, Har’el directs all seven episodes of the 1960’s set murder mystery. Told from the perspectives of a Jewish journalist and a black bookkeeper, the story dives into the racial and misogynistic politics of the era. Har’el dives into the intricacies of the story with vigor, creating a deeply satisfying journey with brutal honesty about its characters.

“You think every story is your story,” Maddie Morganstern’s son Seth bitterly argues late in the Apple TV+ miniseries Lady in the Lake. This is a common accusation other characters level at Maddie (Natalie Portman), a Jewish woman in mid-Sixties Baltimore who has left Seth (Noah Jupe) and her husband Milton (Brett Gelman) to reinvent herself as a newspaper reporter. The series is narrated by Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a Black woman who becomes the titular lady in the lake when her body is found thanks to Maddie’s reporting.

Created by Alma Har’el and adapted from Laura Lippman’s crime novel of the same name, Lady in the Lake draws inspiration from two real-life murder cases in 1960s Baltimore. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman), a middle-class mother in an unfulfilling marriage, serves as a bridge between the contrasting social worlds of the two victims: an 11-year-old Jewish girl, Tessa Durst (Bianca Belle), and an unidentified Black woman who investigators believe may be Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a missing mother of two.
In the opening episode, Tessa disappears while attending a Thanksgiving parade with her parents. Drawn by her fascination with seahorses, the young girl wanders into a tropical fish store, where she encounters the creepy manager, Stephan Zawadzkie (Dylan Arnold), and a Black customer, Reggie Robinson (Josiah Cross). These early episodes, marked by the uncertainties of Tessa’s death, set the stage for the show’s intrigue involving the central mystery.

Natalie Portman has a new show coming out on Apple TV+ called “Lady in the Lake“! This is exciting because it’s her first leading role in a TV series. Portman plays a housewife in 1960s Baltimore who gets involved in a missing person’s case.
The series is based on a mystery novel and directed by Alma Har’el. Other cast members include Moses Ingram, Brett Gelman and Noah Jupe. It seems like it will be a gripping mystery drama set in the past.

Spoiler Alert!Spoiler Warning for A Quiet Place: Day One
A Quiet Place: Day One ended with a shocking yet emotional scene, but the great thing about it is that it opens for discussion of a sequel. What happens to the boat fleeing Manhattan with Eric and Frodo aboard? Will Sam even survive despite her sacrifice? These are some questions that can only be answered in a potential follow-up film.

Director Michael Sarnoski is pretty much open to continuing the prequel franchise; however, he still hasn’t thought about the plot of the next movie. Fans should not fret, though, because A Quiet Place Part III is currently in development with John Krasinski at the helm.

One of the most surprising franchises in recent years, A Quiet Place: Day One brings the franchise back to theaters. The third film inside a decade, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and now Lupita N’yongo, has proven it’s got staying power. There’s a lot to like about the franchise, so much so that a few similar movies and shows have reached for similar material. A few of these movies existed or were in production alongside A Quiet Place. Yet their similarity speaks to Hollywood’s never-ending willingness to push out movies with similar themes and ideas simultaneously.

“A Quiet Place” has become a horror franchise with few equals.
The third entry in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic series, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” beat expectations with $53 million domestically and $98 million globally in its box office debut. It landed the best start of the three films, above the original 2018 “A Quiet Place,” ($50 million in its opening) and the 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II”. The enduring appeal of the trio of films, the most recent entry serving as an origin story, signals that “A Quiet Place” has enough power to fill seats at multiplexes based on the strength of its name. It joins the company of other big horror properties, like “The Conjuring,” “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious,” all of which remain popular but have experienced some diminishing returns over the course of many sequels and spinoffs.

Plot: A woman named Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) finds herself trapped in New York City at the start of the alien invasion depicted in the first two Quiet Place movies.
Review: A quick word of warning before I get into my review. Paramount has been pretty smart about avoiding any Spoilers for this movie, so if you want to go in fresh without knowing anything about it other than whether or not it’s good, I’ll save you the rest of the review. I enjoyed it. It’s not quite as good as the first two movies, but it’s a solid prequel that shares the same DNA as the other movies, delivering a surprisingly affecting human story amid all the carnage.
Still with me? Ok, without getting too much into spoiler territory, Michael Sarnoski’s prequel to the John Krasinski movies has a more dramatic bent than the other two films.

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters this weekend and to offer one last look, Paramount Pictures has released the official final trailer, which is every bit as chilling as you'd expect and also features a few glowing early reactions .
Outside of the film taking place during the first day of the alien invasion, further plot details are not yet known, but we'll all find out soon enough.
While the most recent chapter, which released in 2021, revealed some of what happened on Day One, mainly showcasing how the Abbott family managed to survive the meteor crash and subsequent alien invasion, the prequel will follow an entirely new batch of characters as they do their best to quietly make it out of New York alive.
A Quiet Place: Day One is currently tracking for a $42 million plus opening weekend domestically, which would be a pretty stellar launch considering the film's relatively modest $67 million production budget.

Olivia Colman is among the cast returning for series 2 of The Night Manager, and here are the details.
Back in 2018, The Night Manager was a huge hit for the BBC, winning 36 awards including two Emmys, a BAFTA and several Golden Globes.

Earlier this year, the BBC confirmed that two more series have been commissioned and will be filmed back to back, presumably owing to Hiddleston’s busy schedule. Farr returned to write the scripts,...
