Liam Neeson is seeing the end of the road, starring in action films, and the time seems to be coming soon.

In a new interview, Neeson talks about his age and considers when he should stop taking on physically demanding roles.

“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson told People.

The Taken actor continues to perform his own fight scenes, with Mark Vanselow taking on the more demanding stunts.

“You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me,” he added.

Neeson hasn’t set a time to stop making action movies but noted that it could be sometime in 2025.

“Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it,” he said.

Splashy Last Week On The Lido

Uncharacteristically buzzy: The Venice Film Festival ends tomorrow after an uncharacteristically buzzy second week. The festival is usually front-loaded, with the splashiest titles playing early. This year, however, Alberto Barbera, who dished to Andreas, said the lengthy runtimes of some competition titles meant the spoils had to spread across both weeks. Enter Brady Corbet’s 215-minute post-wwii epic The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola. The process of turning Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel Lady in the Lake into an Apple TV+ limited series began more than three years ago and involves the series’ late executive producer, Jean-Marc Vallée, who died suddenly in late December 2021.

Vallée and producing partner Nathan Ross had read the book, with Ross checking it out quickly after its release thanks to a rave review from Stephen King in The New York Times. Ross told Vallée about the novel, thinking of Natalie Portman for the role of Maddie Schwartz, and Vallée wanted Alma Har’el for the project due to her work on the film Honey Boy, Shia Labeouf’s semiautobiographical drama.

“You think every story is your story,” Maddie Morganstern’s son Seth bitterly argues late in the Apple TV+ miniseries Lady in the Lake. This is a common accusation other characters level at Maddie (Natalie Portman), a Jewish woman in mid-Sixties Baltimore who has left Seth (Noah Jupe) and her husband Milton (Brett Gelman) to reinvent herself as a newspaper reporter. The series is narrated by Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a Black woman who becomes the titular lady in the lake when her body is found thanks to Maddie’s reporting.

Created by Alma Har’el and adapted from Laura Lippman’s crime novel of the same name, Lady in the Lake draws inspiration from two real-life murder cases in 1960s Baltimore. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman), a middle-class mother in an unfulfilling marriage, serves as a bridge between the contrasting social worlds of the two victims: an 11-year-old Jewish girl, Tessa Durst (Bianca Belle), and an unidentified Black woman who investigators believe may be Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a missing mother of two.

In the opening episode, Tessa disappears while attending a Thanksgiving parade with her parents. Drawn by her fascination with seahorses, the young girl wanders into a tropical fish store, where she encounters the creepy manager, Stephan Zawadzkie (Dylan Arnold), and a Black customer, Reggie Robinson (Josiah Cross). These early episodes, marked by the uncertainties of Tessa’s death, set the stage for the show’s intrigue involving the central mystery.

Natalie Portman has a new show coming out on Apple TV+ called “Lady in the Lake“! This is exciting because it’s her first leading role in a TV series. Portman plays a housewife in 1960s Baltimore who gets involved in a missing person’s case.

The series is based on a mystery novel and directed by Alma Har’el. Other cast members include Moses Ingram, Brett Gelman and Noah Jupe. It seems like it will be a gripping mystery drama set in the past.

“Lady in the Lake” will premiere on July 19th with the first two episodes. Then a new episode will come out each Friday until the finale on August 23rd. You can watch them starting at midnight on the East Coast or later that night if you live in other US time zones.

Review: A quick word of warning before I get into my review. Paramount has been pretty smart about avoiding any Spoilers for this movie, so if you want to go in fresh without knowing anything about it other than whether or not it’s good, I’ll save you the rest of the review. I enjoyed it. It’s not quite as good as the first two movies, but it’s a solid prequel that shares the same DNA as the other movies, delivering a surprisingly affecting human story amid all the carnage.

Still with me? Ok, without getting too much into spoiler territory, Michael Sarnoski’s prequel to the John Krasinski movies has a more dramatic bent than the other two films.

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters this weekend and to offer one last look, Paramount Pictures has released the official final trailer, which is every bit as chilling as you'd expect and also features a few glowing early reactions .

Outside of the film taking place during the first day of the alien invasion, further plot details are not yet known, but we'll all find out soon enough.

While the most recent chapter, which released in 2021, revealed some of what happened on Day One, mainly showcasing how the Abbott family managed to survive the meteor crash and subsequent alien invasion, the prequel will follow an entirely new batch of characters as they do their best to quietly make it out of New York alive.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently tracking for a $42 million plus opening weekend domestically, which would be a pretty stellar launch considering the film's relatively modest $67 million production budget.

Production company Hangtime International Pictures has joined the team for the long-awaited second season of The Night Manager, as the show begins principal photography in London this month.

Following Hangtime’s launch at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the company’s Frank Murray and Frida Torresblanco will serve as co-executive producers on the show.

Murray was brought aboard the series by The Ink Factory co-founder and co-ceo Simon Cornwell and executive producer Stephen Garrett. “I’m thrilled to continue my working relationship with Simon and The Ink Factory team via Hangtime,” Murray said. “I am such a huge fan of the series, it is truly an honor and a privilege.”

Frank Murray and Frida Torresblanco have joined the production team of The Night Manager Season 2 via their nascent Hangtime International Pictures, with plans ramping up for the next instalment of the John le Carré adaptation.

Deadline revealed the launch of Hangtime in the run up to Cannes and The Night Manager is its first project. Pan’s Labyrinth and First Reformed vets Murray and Torresblanco will join the production team as co-execs.

Murray was brought on board the series by The Ink Factory co-founder and co-ceo Simon Cornwell and EP Stephen Garrett, Hangtime said.

Backed by an eight-figure investment out of New York, Hangtime is focusing on developing and producing U.S. and regional content with global appeal. The partners recently told us they will work on high-end, specialist and mainstream content across film, television, and documentaries in both English and Spanish.

More of The Night Manager's first season cast is returning for season two on Prime Video and BBC. Viewers will see Olivia Coleman, Alistair Petrie, Michael Nardone, Douglas Hodge, and Noah Jupe return to work with Tom Hiddleston in the series.
