Was born in Southend on Sea, in southeastern Essex, England, but moved to Nottingham when he was around a year old.

His mother, Hazel Foster, died in July 2008 after a long battle with cancer.

Before starting work in the film industry, Joe worked as a waiter, computer salesman at PC World, and as a Geek Squad Agent at Best Buy and the Carphone Warehouse (UK).

Graduated from the University of Bradford with a 1st in BSc (Hons) Media Technology and Production in 2009.

Moved from his home city of Nottingham to London to begin a career in the film industry in April 2013. He moved back to Nottingham in 2021.

Is a huge fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars - and has never understood the rivalry between the two.
