The minute-and-a-half look at the upcoming installment, premiering Oct. 15 as part of Hulu’s Halloween lineup, teases new takes on classic horror tropes such as “don’t look under the bed,” a scary figure appearing in the mirror and a woman appearing in an empty parking lot late at night.

“Pose,” the FX series wrapping its three-season run in June, is a show that’s always been comfortable using exaggeration as a sort of wishful metaphor. Consider the show’s first episode, in which Dominique Jackson’s character leads a museum heist in order to ransack historical finery to wear at a ball. The characters, along with their show, use wit and ambition to procure clothes worn by royals, and redistribute them to Black drag artists and trans women. By bending reality, the show reclaimed the visual language of wealth and power. To mention that such a heist seemed unrealistic at best isn’t just not in the spirit of “Pose.” It is irrelevant to what the show was doing.

The groundbreaking FX drama “Pose” debuted its third and final season at an in-person premiere in New York at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Thursday. But while emotions over the ballroom series’ final bow were bound to be inevitable, what wasn’t expected was a blistering speech from executive producer and director Janet Mock, who sounded off on the industry, and her own show, during a lengthy takedown that left attendees stunned. “During the 15-minute speech, she complained about how much the network is paying her, demanded better treatment for the trans community, shouted ‘F-ck Hollywood,’ revealed that she’d slept with someone in the show’s crew, asked her ‘Pose’ actor boyfriend not to leave her over the infidelity, decried the quality of the writing on the show, and had a brief conversation with co-creator and Hollywood mogul Ryan Murphy from the stage,” the story reads.

“Pose” executive producer Janet Mock rocked the Season 3 premiere event on Thursday night with an emotional speech calling out Hollywood and even series co-creator Ryan Murphy, according to reports.

“I’m hurting, y’all. I see injustice and it hurts me inside,” Mock said at the in-person event in New York City, according to the Daily Beast. She praised the FX show’s stars, including Hailie Sahar, Dominique Jackson, Angelica Ross and Mj Rodriguez, but took aim at the industry’s treatment of trans talent. “When a talent asks you for a suite, you give them a suite because they need it,” she said.

“Why am I making $40,000 a motherf—ing episode? Huh?” she asked, calling for compensation in line with that of other producers. “I am angry. This is truth.

In what Hollywood hopes is a sign that live events are finally on the rebound, FX and 20th Television launched the third and final season of “Pose” with a red carpet premiere Thursday night in New York.

The event was held indoors at Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The socially-distanced, 200-foot carpet included clear plastic barriers between photographers. Reporters conducting interviews were spaced about six feet apart. Talent and reporters were kept four feet apart. The carpet itself was light blue and flecked with sparkles.

FX’s ballroom culture period drama “Pose” is signing off with its third and final season this spring — a season they pushed through the Covid-19 pandemic to finish, but truly has been many years in the making.

Although the final season will be short — only seven episodes — it tells stories that co-creators Steven Canals and Ryan Murphy discussed when they first began talking about the series five years ago.

“If you watch this season, and more specifically the finale, that was what it was always intended to be,” Canals said during a virtual discussion for the show on Monday. “If you go back to the first season, everything was a set up for this final chapter. In a sign that red carpets may slowly be returning to the entertainment landscape, FX and 20th Television are throwing a glamour-filled premiere event for the third and final season of “Pose” on April 29.

The festivities at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City will feature a 200-foot red carpet for socially distanced media outlets. Interviews will be conducted with eight feet between talent and journalists. Plexiglass partitions will be placed between photographers.

Stars Mj Rodriguez, Billy Porter, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar, Dyllón Burnside, Angel Bismark Curiel, Sandra Bernhard and Jason Rodriguez are expected to attend. Also in attendance will be Ryan Murphy, co-creator and executive producer Steven Canals and executive producer Janet Mock. Canals and Mock are also writers and directors on the show.

Refresh for updates… Some of the cast and creative team of FX’s Pose took to social media this morning to share their thoughts and express solidarity with fans after the show announced that it will end with its upcoming third season.

In a video tweet, actor Angel Bismark Curiel, who plays Esteban “Lil Papi” Martinez-Evangelista, held back tears as he told fans the news was “bittersweet,” that he is “excited for new beginnings” but that his “heart is aching.”

The groundbreaking series was renewed for a third season back in 2019. The seven-episode final season is now set to debut on May 2 at 10 p.m. Et, with two episodes airing that night. The series finale will air on June 6.

“’Write the TV show you want to watch!’ That’s what I was told in 2014 while completing my Mfa in screenwriting,” said Steven Canals, executive producer, writer, director and co-creator of “Pose.” “At the time we weren’t seeing very many Black and Latinx characters — that happened to also be LGBTQ+ — populating screens. And so I wrote the first draft of a pilot the ‘younger me’ deserved. Pose was conceived as a love letter to the underground NY ballroom community, to my beloved New York, to my queer & trans family, to myself. I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the TV landscape.

“Black Bear,” “Kokoloko,” “Night of the Kings,” “Rosa’s Wedding” and “Undine” have been selected as the competition titles for the Marimba Award at the upcoming Miami Film Festival Gems event.

The seventh annual edition of Gems will be held virtually from Oct. 8-11. The juried prize, which carries a $25,000 award, is given for a film that best exemplifies richness and resonance for cinema’s future.
