A bunch of nosy kids get into trouble looking for things they shouldn’t be in Disney’s latest sci-fi adventure film Crater. Directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and written by John Griffin, the film follows five friends as they travel to a moon crater to find treasure in the 23rd century.
The film starts with Caleb (Isaiah Russll-Bailey), Addison (Mckenna Grace), Dylan (Billy Barratt), Borney (Orson Hong), and Marcus (Thomas James Boyce III) trying to hijack a space rover in the middle of a lockdown due to an oncoming meteor shower. As the group argues why their plan isn’t working, Caleb thinks about how his deceased father, Michael (played by Scott Mescudi). In the wake of his Dad’s death he finds he’s been chosen to go to Omega—an off-moon paradise and home of the wealthy. He doesn’t want to go and leave his friends,...

With schools finishing up for their big Summer break many of those kids are dreaming of getting away for a while. How about the ultimate “getaway” from …the planet? It’s not that wild of a fantasy, as this new Disney+ adventure flick offers a look at a colony, almost a small city, on the moon, our big destination for over 50 years now. But how do the kids living up there take a break from the indoors (with plenty of oxygen)? Well, for the five kids in this story, they’re itching to sneak away for a fun frolic at a nearby (it’s not really a walk) Crater.
When the film begins, those kids are sneaking around the transport bay under the dome of an underground lunar colony in the not-too-distant future. The loudspeakers are blaring out an alert that a meteor shower is imminent so everyone needs to...

Within the first four minutes of Disney+ Original film “Crater,” we already have a cavalcade of movie tropes to contend with: dead parents, spaceships, and a 72-hour ticking clock for one newly-orphaned tween to say farewell to his friend group. At least we know Disney hasn’t shied away from its classic storylines.
Part “Guardians of the Galaxy” and part “Goonies” with a dash of “Outer Banks,” “Crater” centers on Caleb Channing (a well-cast Isaiah Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony by his single dad (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi). After the death of his father, Caleb becomes a ward of the state, poised to reap the “death benefits” from his father’s work contract with the colony. As part of said benefits, Caleb is supposed to be put in a cryosleep and transported to distant planet Omega, which takes 75 years to reach.

As the writers strike continues to dominate Hollywood discourse, Ted Sarandos has exited a planned appearance at a Pen America event next week that was set to honor him.
The literary organization announced Wednesday that the Netflix co-ceo will no longer attend their annual gala to accept the Pen America Business Visionary Award. The event will still take place May 18 in New York as planned with Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost as host, and Lorne Michaels remains scheduled to participate as an honored guest.
“We admire Ted Sarandos’ singular work translating literature to artful presentation onscreen, and his stalwart defense of free expression and satire,” Pen America said in a statement. “As a writers organization, we have been following recent events closely and understand his decision.”

Season one of MGM+s’ propulsive horror series “From” wasted no time going straight for the jugular and maintaining intensity throughout. It culminated in a ruthless shattering of hope for its wayward characters just as a bus of new characters arrived. “From” Season Two hits the ground running, picking up where the inaugural season left off to compound the mysteries, drama, and relentless horror.
After receiving a warning just as a storm rolled in out of nowhere to decimate the group’s plans to establish contact with the outside world, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) rushes home to save his wife Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), unaware that she’d already fallen into the gaping sinkhole beneath their house. As Tabitha and Victor (Scott McCord) fearfully navigate the monster-infested tunnels below, Jim seeks to dig her out with some help from others, just as the house caves in on them.

Plot: The series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. In season two, hidden truths about the nature and terrifying origins of the town begin to emerge, even as life for its residents is plunged into chaos by the arrival of mysterious newcomers.
Review: There are few things as entertaining as a great mystery series. When Lost debuted in 2004, every network tried replicating the balance of serial storytelling, mystery box thrills, and cliffhanger endings. The problem many of those series encountered were characters that audiences did not connect to. MGM+ series From, created by John Griffin, benefited from the skills of various cast and crew from Lost to help turn it into a hit when it premiered last year. Disney+ is set to take viewers on a journey through Tudor England with its latest series, “Shardlake.”
Based on the internationally acclaimed Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom, the four-part drama is set in 16th century England during the dissolution of the monasteries.
The series will follow the story of Matthew Shardlake, played by Arthur Hughes, a lawyer with an acute sense of justice and one of the few honest men in a world beset with scheming and plots. Shardlake works for Thomas Cromwell, played by Sean Bean, the dangerous and all-powerful right-hand man to Henry VIII.
Despite Shardlake’s unwavering loyalty to Cromwell and the Crown, his position in society is unfavored due to his appearance, as a person living with scoliosis during the Tudor period, suffering the indignity of being abused as a “crookback” wherever he turns. As he investigates the murder of one of Cromwell...

A couple months ago, we heard that season 2 of the series From would begin airing on MGM+ (formerly known as Epix) on April 23rd. Now a trailer for the new season has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
I haven’t watched the first season of From – our own Alex Maidy has, and said “From definitely is worthy of a multi-season run” (you can read his 7/10 review Here) – so I was surprised to see just how creepy the trailer for season 2 is. A quote in the trailer even confirms the show has creeped out the great Stephen King… so I’m definitely going to have to start watching this series.
Written and created by John Griffin, From is described as a “contemporary sci-fi horror series”. The show aims to unravel the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter.

Harold Perrineau has been a part of two iconic works of television, each showcasing opposite sides of the same spectrum. One is the side of America that fears getting stranded on an island and surviving off merit alone instead of status, the other is the side that fears incarceration due to the system they’ve seen fail and loved ones who they’ve witnessed fall to that fate. Lost and Oz each examined the world in a microcosm and how its inhabitants respond to their respective settings and Perrineu’s From looks to study those same aspects. Created by John Griffin, the series revolves around a nightmarish town in middle America that traps everyone who enters. The unwilling residents of this creepy town strive to stay alive and search for a way out but are tormented by the terrifying nocturnal creatures from the surrounding forest. MGM+ president Michael Wright says transparency plays a key role in keeping storytellers and network execs on the same page when it comes to the fate and future of shows.
“I’ve been doing this long enough to know to have had that situation before, and in almost every instance we’ve been able to end long-term shows in a satisfactory way,” Wright said at Tuesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena during a panel discussion for streamer’s sci-fi series “From.” Wright introduced a slate of MGM+ shows, including “Murf the Surf” and “A Spy Among Friends.”
Wright’s words came after he was asked about the role TV executives play in a series longevity, as the industry is seeing an influx of shows being canceled before and after production or newly renewed series suddenly getting pulled.

Alfred Molina is starring in the upcoming Prime Video series "Three Pines." It's an adaptation of the beloved and best-selling mystery novel series by Louise Penny, focused on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. There are eight episodes in the season, though the novel series is 17 books long. That's a lot of story to mine from. It's set in Canada, and the production was filmed in both Montreal and rural Quebec.
This is the first Canada-based production for Left Bank, which is the production company behind the Netflix series "The Crown," about the royal family of the United Kingdom. Production began on the Canadian Amazon Original drama series in September 2021. If you haven't heard of Armande Gamache, it's time to start reading, and watching when the series premieres. When we chatted with From series creator and executive producer John Griffin and executive producer Jeff Pinkner, they offered virtually no discussion on the finale upfront.
Thankfully, as the conversation grew, they did share some insight into From Season 1 Episode 10.
By the time the credits roll on the finale, the future seems to hinge on the bond growing between Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and Sara (Avery Conrad).
I'll admit that I threw a tongue-twister of a question at them about Boyd and Sara's twisted journey through the odd forest (think the giant ball of Christmas lights from Christmas Vacation for the wad I tossed their way), but that did get the ball rolling.
Throughout the first season, Boyd has been trying to deal with the town's issues using the lens of his former reality.
Sara's claim of hearing voices giving her specific commands for survival flies in the face of all that Boyd knows.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers in the season finale of “From,” which premiered April 24 on Epix.
Harold Perrineau doesn’t necessarily consider himself a fan of the horror genre. “First of all, horror is scary!” the actor says with a laugh. “The other thing is, they often have images of bad people doing bad things to other bad people, and I feel like I have enough bad things in my brain that I don’t always want to go there.”
And yet the actor finds himself at the center of “From,” the terrifying Epix series that was renewed for a second season Sunday morning, ahead of its Season 1 finale. Perrineau says he is “overjoyed,” adding, “I am looking forward to heading back to work with our fantastic cast and crew, and would like to thank Michael Wright, Epix and our passionate fans for their support.”

When TV Fanatic had the chance to jump on a Zoom call with From creator and executive producer John Griffin and executive producer Jeff Pinkner, the second season renewal was days away.
The idea was also to get some thoughts on the finale from the guys behind the wheel. Surely, they could shed some light on what went down.
Well, they wouldn't. Even with so much to discuss and the possibility that the show wouldn't be renewed, they offered tight lips and teased that this would be one boring interview.
The good news for you is that this drops earlier. If they didn't spell secrets, there's nothing to spoil.
But we did get some context about the meaning behind the show and why, although they could have discussed some plot points, it just doesn't matter from their perspective.

This article contains spoilers for the From season 1 finale.
Last night, the Epix suspense horror series From starring Harold Perrineau ended its first season with multiple cliffhangers that separated the main characters, and opened up a whole lot of questions about a town cut off from the rest of the world and surrounded by nocturnal vampire-esque creatures. Titled “Oh, the Places We’ll Go,” the tenth episode was reminiscent of a Lost-style finale that expands the web of intrigue (somewhat literally considering those massive spider webs that look like something woven by Tolkien’s Shelob).
And the comparisons to Lost are not without merit. From was created, and executive produced by John Griffin, Jack Bender, and by showrunner Jeff Pinkner, with Anthony and Joe Russo of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as producers.
In the finale, Perrineau’s Sheriff Boyd Stevens continues his quest to go further into the forest beyond the trapped town.

From is here, people. And it's time to get on board.
A sci-fi thriller from the producers of Lost with an insanely deep cast and a very compelling hook. What happens when you enter a town you just can't leave, and the monsters there come out at night?
We were lucky enough to chat with the stars of the series Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Eion Bailey about how their characters fit into this world and what they're hoping the audience connect with in their new show.
My first question for all three of you and starting with Catalina, if you could just describe for us a little bit about the characters you play on From?
Catalina Sandino Moreno: Yes, I play Tabitha Matthews. She is in this event with her family, and she is basically trading one nightmare from another. Before she gets stuck in the town, she's leaving hell.

Television is cyclical. When one successful show ends we immediately question what’s the next show, if any, that could replace it. ABC’s puzzling mystery “Lost” ended 12 years ago and creatives are still trying to find ways to recapture the dizzying, mounting, and (sometimes) frustrating tension that series cultivated. The latest attempt is the new Epix series “From,” which boasts so many connections to “Lost” (and alumnae) that the viewer may wonder if the desire is for this to stand alone on its own merits.
We meet the residents of a run-down town as they’re preparing to call it a day. Not because their work has been done, but as town cryer/sheriff Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) warns them: They have to be inside before the sun sets. It’s discovered that the town is preyed on nightly by mysterious creatures who look like real people, yet aren’t.
