Jamel Lajuan Jackson is an educator and award-winning documentary filmmaker from Birmingham, Alabama. His career began as a child actor in regional TV commercials and as a young model for magazines. A former college athlete and Army combat veteran, Jamel served in Afghanistan from 2013 to 2014, experiences that inform his unique storytelling perspective.
As a filmmaker, Jamel has produced a range of projects, including a feature documentary, nine narrative short films, two spec commercials, a short documentary, and an experimental art film. His debut feature, *Iron Grit*, won the Audience Award for Best Black Lens Film at the 2019 Sidewalk Film Festival, solidifying his reputation for creating stories that resonate with audiences.
While currently pursuing a career in education, Jamel continues to focus on socially relevant documentary projects, including his latest work, *Groundbreaking Justice*. Through his films, he strives to inspire change and foster meaningful conversations on critical social issues.
